If someone had the access and could change password, why would they not change the email address too? That doesn't make sense. Maybe you have changed the password but forgot?

Which among the below was not done by you

According to Bpip your password was changed 3 times since registration which the last one was done today using your email address.

If your are worried of security, then try checking your login device who have access to it, increase your security measures, and don't save your login in browsers. If this was actually a hack attempt you might not be lucky next time to use your email and reset the password because it will be removed and change completely.

There is a password log thread shared by theymos where you can check either your password has been changed or not, source, you can check the source for further guidance and i personally checked the password log with your username and found only one entry with your username which is here.

According to timestamp, as you said, before making this post you changed your password and the time difference between this post and the password change is only 3 to 4 minutes so i am confirmed that log is yours and as there is no other password change log then i can tell you, your password has not been changed i think you have forgot it or maybe you didn't realize that, sometimes this happens, but dyor too from your side as do no rely on my reply only.

I changed today few minutes before making this post as I was not able to login. I am sure that I did not change password since long time before this. I remember changing it once more few years back and that time also someone guessed , changed my password and made 1-2 unwanted posts from this profile.

As already said above by Faisal2202, no one changed your password. Most probably you had forgotten your password and you entered a wrong password.
Your password was changed via your email address today which was done by yourself and as displayed above in the image posted by Nwada001 from BPIP, the last time your password was changed before that was around 4 years ago.

Anyway, if you still worry about security of your account, you can visit the link below and check if you see any suspicious IP address.

They got access to your account and did not change your email, it means they don't want to take ownership of the account.
But it is risky someone making posts with your account. The person might use your account to spread malware or plagerise, and you know the consequences. You will lose your account. That will be a big challenge to you because you will first have to appeal for ban and then prove ownership of the account.

Since you still have access to the account, I think you should rather create a new email, change the email of the account and reset your password before you will be totally compromised.

What was the error you saw when you entered the password, incorrect or any other?

As everyone says no trace of password change and I doubt any hack attempt made because if they do they usually don't let you to have the old email which can be used to reset the password anytime when you want.

I think you have been using the forum in always logged in, but remember when you logout the account from one device it logout from every device where the account is currently logged in, so don't forget to manage your passwords wisely.

The security log and BPIP show the password was changed by yourself.

If you check my IP page and see no strange IP in the last 30 days, I don't think something was changed with your account. Probably you got problems with your keyboard, caplock and the likes.

You got access to your account but now, you must check that did you stake any Bitcoin message and address in the forum?

It will be part of your information to prove account ownership for account recovery later if you will no longer able to access your email and reset password via email.

Stake your Bitcoin address here

Today when I tried to login, my  old password was not working. Was my account hacked ? Do I need to worry about it.

I was able to reset password as email was not changed.

Are you copy-pasting your password and how complicated is your password if you follow the right security in creating your password, then it is a combination of small letters, big letters, special characters, spaces, and numbers and because of this, you may have mistyped some of the letters because your keyboard could be malfunctioning.
This was my case when I cannot log in.

But if you think that this is not the case then you are right in changing your password, if there's an intrusion you are lucky that the email was not changed.

But do an investigation if you think that there's an intrusion.

@OP you can also change your email just in case you are worried whether your email has been compromised or not.

If i am not wrong, i think you got it wrong because his password was changed in 2019 and at that time someone made posts in his absence, not now. So if you thought the hacker changed password and made posts now then no, AFAIK, there was no post was made this time and as op said, when in previous time, then posts were made.

I just reread his post again several times, and you are right, I misunderstood it, I thought the unwanted posts were made recently when he had "no access" to his account. thanks for clarifying that.

anyway, I still suggest OP change his email just in case it has been compromised, better to be safe than not.

If the password had been changed, it should have been displayed on BPIP and Security log. All password changes are reported there.
Sometimes it happens that we when are trying to login with the password we enter some wrong keywords that might also display the error because it's not visible to us and we have to double check it or the case might be he has forgotten his password and now he was able to change it.Moreover if someone has access to his account the security log would detect password change and he would have not been able to login on the forum again with the email.

This cannot be a hacking attempt because somebody attempting to hack your account would not be so stupid as to not change the email and password. My Facebook account was previously hacked, and the hacker made no mistake in changing the Email address, which is how I lost the account. It's possible you forgot your password or mistyped it; this happens to me all the time, especially when I'm in my beast typing mode and typing as quickly as I can. No need to worry, I don't believe it's a hack attempt. simply be extra cautious with your passwords and how you keep them, or better yet, change your email address to be secure.  Just as a member previously advised, you shouldn't save your password on any browser because anything that is online is accessible to anyone.

krishnaverma, don't take pressure. Since you are currently accessing the account, I will say create a strong password, if you need then change the email address too. The devices you are using, you can reset the devices too. Other than all these, you can not do anything else.

anyway, I still suggest OP change his email just in case it has been compromised, better to be safe than not.
You already had one of my many ideas 😉

Logs show that your password has been changed only once, which I assume was done by you. Based on that, it is unlikely that someone hacked your account. I think you just simply forgot your password and have been repeatedly entering it incorrectly. If someone had access to your account, they would likely change not only the password but also the associated email address making it much more difficult for you to recover it on your own, Because In order to recover your account you may need to provide additional details and verify your staked bitcoin address if it's quoted and it would take a while.

So long story short, It is most likely that either you have forgotten your old password or you remember it but consistently mistype it (possibly due to keyboard issues or forgetting a word or a few characters).

If someone has changed your password before you did, then you should receive an email notification about the password change. But some user findings prove that maybe you just forgot your password or some of your keyboard keys are not working, but to increase your account security in the future then follow some of the above mentioned advice.

Don't forget, sign the message from your bitcoin address to make it easier for you to recover your account if in the future you get hacked or lose your account for some other reason.

I second this

Just to be sure that the person behind the account is the original owner and not some new person trying to play around without minds that he forgot the password, yet they are just changing ownership. I think it would be more than welcome that OP signs a message from an old bitcoin address he has posted in the past, like this one

Well, the OP used an address today when applying to join a signature campaign. He used an address he has used previously for joining signature campaigns: bc1qalv6lg6qt7g72jx35th694zzfa98gc6d9zm0w5

He should be able to sign this address otherwise he would not have applied to join another campaign with it today therefore in this particular instance would it really matter?

It's natural for you to change old password and forget to memorize or store it somewhere else, maybe after some while you may want to login with old password and it happens no access was given to you. Since you can't remember anymore you might thought someone else did but you initiated it and never used it again, I think something similar happened to me when I was actively involving myself on social media.

I changed my recent password to a better strong password thinking to secure my account more better and I didn't enable autosave password the day I wanted to login to my account I wasn't given that access so I thought my account was hacked what I did was changed password again reset it through mail.
But logic there is, when account is hacked and password changed the hacker won't leave the account with same mail probably they would include another mail to enable the original owner to completely lose access to the account.

But then the case gets more interesting if the OP failed to sign the message from the bitcoin address he's used on the forum so far.

I support that the OP should change his password periodically for security purposes - but while he has said it was hacked and his account was posted by someone else without his knowledge, then he deserves to be asked to sign the message. It could be that the account is controlled by a different user or the hacker posted this for him - so who knows?

Yeah.. Absolutely correct I also support on this, op should sign a message to claim back his account otherwise the account is at risk of getting tag, to clearly verify the action was carried out by op  message should be signed. I didn't even came to think about this as well, though was using my past experience to give an example of how it happens to me then.

I was able to reset password as email was not changed.

Are you referring to this account you are currently using in this post? Then you mentioned that you tried to change your password and you couldn't change it either, right? I'm just wondering, did you try to change the password but couldn't? so you have access to your email?

if your account is hacked, for sure the email you use here on the forum will also be susceptible to being taken or stolen, I hope you don't have access to your email either, but it looks like you have access to your email too, which means you just forgot the password you made for sure.

Pretty funny situation. After reading all the posts, I got the impression that the OP just decided to draw attention to himself, not at all thinking that people could easily check if the password was previously changed or not. Topic from the category "just to write something"
But the situation now is that the OP has created even more fuss with his account, and people are demanding that he prove if the OP is the real owner or if the cheater is trying to protect himself from future claims.
As a result, always think about what you write about; sometimes innocent stupidity can lead to serious consequences. Grin

I think Op might be regretting wherever they are now for bringing up an unnecessary topic. Now he needs to prove that he is himself and what if he is unable to sign any message?
I always tell people that they shouldn't create a topic when it is obviously not necessary.

Attention seeking is not out of the question in this wonderful forum of ours because we seem to attract people of all dispositions here  Grin

Whether the OP is doing exactly that or whether he is doing else remains unknown but it seems he applied to join a signature campaign using a previously used BTC address on the same day this thread began.

When I said a while ago I was reffering to before the other password and email changes in 2019. So yeah, would not be impressed if he could sign with the address you mentioned.
He doesn't have to sign, but would be nice to have.

Which among the below was not done by you
I checked my seclog log, and got one more:
Code:
June 20, 2023, 01:52:21 PM - <a href="https://bitcointalk.org//index.php?action=profile;u=1341921"  style="color:#606060" >krishnaverma</a> - password reset via email<BR>

(I'm too lazy to convert it to BBCode, so click to view it)

As already said, no one changed the password at all.
I concur.

I remember changing it once more few years back and that time also someone guessed , changed my password and made 1-2 unwanted posts from this profile.
I find this hard to believe. And I find it quite a coincidence you post about your password just a few days after I left you a neutral tag about plagiarism from my DT-account.

So Bpip could not possibly cover up all the logs, or it has a limit to how long it saves security logs for each profile.
A good reason to not only rely on one particular tool for research.

After reading this the first thing that came to mind were a couple of recent cases where threads were used to express disappointment at receiving a neutral or negative tag and as a result of that what followed were connections to alt-accounts and farming accounts and more neutral or negative feedback with trust exclusions too.

It could be a possible fabricated story which might later be used to justify a claim of denying it's original involvement in the Plagiarism case

You are right, what would happened to op if couldn't be able to prove himself or herself as people demanded. Any bad effect of what it would results to the account owner? Because i believe op may only get justice if all those things said by some people here are being carried out to sign a message with the said address mentioned earlier by @JollyGood.

So Bpip could not possibly cover up all the logs, or it has a limit to how long it saves security logs for each profile.
BPIP started to scrape security log on March 16, 2018 and that's why the password change that was done by OP in February 2018 is not displayed on BPIP.

See the post made by ibminer on BPIP's thread.

Seclog on BPIP goes back to March 16th, 2018.

If the OP has claimed a phantom change of password took place yet on the same the day he applied to a signature campaign using an address he has used on at least 8 different occasions while applying for various campaigns, then I cannot see the benefit. If there is another option then that would be interesting to see.

What exactly he thought he would achieve with this thread is the real question now.

As a result, always think about what you write about; sometimes innocent stupidity can lead to serious consequences. Grin

Today when I tried to login, my  old password was not working. Was my account hacked ? Do I need to worry about it.

I was able to reset password as email was not changed.
If someone have access to this your account then the person who did it would already changed the password. When you don't have access to your account, did you check iton the forum if it is online or not because if it is online then that only mean someone did have access to your account. How I see it is that I don't think someone have access to your account because if it did then you wouldn't have been able to use forget password to change the password because if someone did have an access to your account then that person would mostly change the email so that you won't be able get your account through forgot password.

Grin
Exactly!! The same thoughts was risen in me... the reasons?? I'm yet to know.
Was that account an active account before the passcode got resetted? Cus I haven't been seeing that name around very often.
Maybe OP didn't just wanna seek attention; he also wanted to make publicized the fact that his passcode has been changed, so peeps won't even bother using it against him when they get to realize that for themselves....so he decided to frame a fake story to convince the community beforehand - but, HTF is it even possible to deceive a whole community of gurus like this?...lol

So he finally came, on his own - without being interrogated - to report his ignorance on how passcodes are being managed.... I believe if that's the real owner behind the OP, then he shouldn't be creating lame stories like this.. now answer this; WHO TF HAS AN ACCESS TO YOUR BTT ACCOUNT AND YOUR EMAIL TOO TO HAVE CHANGED YOUR PASSCODE 2 GOOD TIMES BEFORE NOW ??

Your password should be something private and lemme ask, how many devices are you using when login in to your account? Maybe you might have used another device or system to login then saved your password and user.
These are the things you need to check before you stop getting access to your account. I prefer you use just one system or device to avoid such from happening again.

If your password was changed and you weren't able to log in with your account then you should change the password, but I'm thinking again that why have you  created this thread if you were able to change your password without any issues? You have somehow got yourself into an unwanted trouble by creating this post. I don't think that it was necessary to create this post because changing the password is your own decision, and a user can do that for security purpose without asking others permission. If you haven't done anything wrong then you should not worry at all, and I'm quite sure that no one will leave any negative tags only because you changed your own account's password.

However, I recommend you to sign a message using that address if you can because that would be helpful in clearing the doubts of those users who might be thinking that your account has been compromised. It would be very useful if you can sign a massage using your address to prove that you are the original owner of the account, and no other person is using the account. After that you shouldn't worry about anything and continue using the forum without any problem.

OP I think you forgot your login password which promoted the change of password. I would advise you to store your password in a good place so as to avoid excessive changing of password.

Truly if it were to be hackers who got access to your account I believe their first actions will be to change your email so as not to allow you have access to your account here. So the idea of possible hack is not the problem but you forgot your login details.
Reset password is always there for you to use when ever you forget your password mate.

The last time the password of OP's account was changed before the ones today was on December 2019, however between those time and today, OP 's account is still active and posting.

The affected person had got his lesson already. He will never repeat this mistake in his lifetime.

The most common thing is that OP just forgot the actual password, and mistook it with some other password that he might use, and I think OP should be aware of this most common possibility. Thus making a thread like this is a bit too much if OP is not really sure that the account is hacked, so other people is not wrong to accuse OP as attention seeker.

Pen and paper (preferably a notebook) that sits in a safe place away from preying eyes goes a long way to ensuring password security.

Utilising long passwords that are alphanumeric and ten (or more) characters in length along with randomness selecting non word passwords makes guessing nigh on impossible.

Add in characters from around your keyboard - even those extra characters in a cell phone keyboard such as ¥€¢£®©°π√ add a higher level of complexity to your password.

Just don't loose the note book.

<snip>
I changed today few minutes before making this post as I was not able to login. I am sure that I did not change password since long time before this. I remember changing it once more few years back and that time also someone guessed , changed my password and made 1-2 unwanted posts from this profile.
It is possible that you did not remembered that you changed your password, lol. Worst scenario is that someone knew that you have Bitcointalk account and has access to the e-mail address you used to register here.
It would be best to check your email address' security. Double-check the recovery settings as there might some unfamiliar recovery email address or phone number connected to it. Change the password!
Another way is to change your email-address, but sometimes that raises suspicion here. You can resolve it by signing a message with btc addresses you staked/used here though.

There is possibility of this because I am active on many forums with different passwords.

But at the time of making this post, I was sure that I was not able to login with the password I remember for this account. Now the problem is solved. I have even changed password.

If you have solved what you claim happened then is it not best now for you to lock this thread. You drew a lot of attention on yourself for something that you cannot recall whether you did it yourself. If there was a possibility you changed your password yourself and forgot about it then you should have investigated it as an option beforehand.

If there is nothing more for you add here then consider locking the thread.

Today when I tried to login, my  old password was not working. Was my account hacked ? Do I need to worry about it.

I was able to reset password as email was not changed.

To know if the account was hacked or attempt of being hacked i will suggest you trying to fish out the IPS you normally used to access bitcointalk, this will give you a clue if your account was hacked or not.

Peace....
