Neo and Atomic wallet : how can I move the neo or swap for btc ?

Hello,

I know I've made mistakes like everyone else, but I've read a lot, and I haven't always understood everything (necessarily). My chance is that I'm not greedy and I didn't get scammed. A few years ago, I didn't know what back-up meant for example, but I've made progress.


I understood that I shouldn't use Trustwallet or closed-source wallets (at the same time, I haven't known that word for that long).

I've realized that I should be using Electrum instead (but, despite some great tutorials, I couldn't install it - Sparrow looks pretty good otherwise, doesn't it?)


And finally, I've got some NEOs in an Atomic Wallet and I didn't dare look to see if they were still there (well, they're not worth a fortune either, obviously). A while ago, I wanted to remove them, but I couldn't :


- What should I do? And above all, what can I do? Swap neo for btc? Send them to a neo wallet? Or something else? (I haven't reinstalled atomic wallet for a long time). Can I use the private keys in a neo wallet for example ?

You tried to remove them, but you couldn't.

Did they restrict you from removing it from their wallet? Or maybe you don't have access to the wallet again, or maybe your wallet is a watch-only wallet, or the NEOs are actually so small that they can't be withdrawn.

If you still have access to your wallet, i.e., if you have full control over it, there is still a possibility of recovering everything you have on that wallet. You just have to use your phrase or private key to import it into another supported wallet and move your funds to a safer place. Not all phrases import the same wallet into another. I mean, you might use your saved private key to try importing it into another wallet, but what you might get is a completely different wallet.

You can consider swapping your NEOs for BTC only after you have successfully moved them out of the wallet.

Transferring Neo token to another wallet or exchange always requires a Gas fee but if you stake Neo you can claim free gas that you can use to transfer Neo to another wallet/exchange.

You can easily install Electrum wallet with its version for desktop and mobile. The installation needs a few seconds to finish, quickly.

You only have difficulty if you practice wallet verification.

Sparrow wallet is for advanced users with more features for privacy. The installation of Sparrow wallet takes more steps than Electrum wallet, more complicated. If you couldn't install Electrum wallet, I doubt that you can install Sparrow wallet.

If you can send your NEO to another wallet even your exchange account, do it as soon as possible. You can sell NEO to BTC or sell NEO to stable coin then buy BTC.

Swap usually will cost you more fee than trading on centralized exchanges.

If I get you correctly, the NEO you want back now are kept in the Atomic wallet? You need to verify if the Neo are still inside that Atomic wallet because the wallet was hacked weeks ago and many people lost a fortune.

Also, if you can't find your private key or recovery seed there is no way you can move out your NEO coin from this Atomic wallet to another wallet that supports NEO.

I do remember that NEO has it's own wallet, why not use the official wallet?

if you have the private key to your address, then you can import it to any noncustodial Neo wallet. This link van guide you on selecting a good Neo wallet. https://neo.org/neogas#wallets
Neon wallet which is noncustodial and open source seems pretty good.

Just buy gas from and transfer it to an address that has the NEO and transfer the coins out of the address

It really doesn't require a tutorial to install and set up. The only issues I can think of that prevented you is if you are using an outdated desktop OS, like Windows 7 and older, or an unsupported and old Android version. Electrum is sadly not available for iOS.

Firstly, ensure you still have access to them and that they are still in your wallet where you left them. I see no point in being afraid to do it. If they are there, great. If not, there is nothing you can do about it.

That all depends on how much you have and if there is any interest in buying them. You can always sell them on a CEX or perhaps a DEX if there is a market for them. P2P or instant exchanges are also a possibility. Seeing that you need gas to move your NEO, go and get that first.

Does Atomic Wallet give you access to private keys of individual coins or do you only have the seed? You can import the seed elsewhere, but then there is the question of derivation paths and what Atomic Wallet uses vs what your other client uses. Again, if you have no gas to pay for the network fees, importing your seed into another wallet is not going to help.

Electrum or Sparrow are good options if you want to have bitcoin only wallet.
As alternative for closed source multicoin wallets like Trust or Atomic my best alternative is Unstoppable wallet, that is open source and only available for mobile devices.
Unstoppable wallet has built in Tor support for better privacy and it's easy even for newbies to use it, they even have swap feature.

Don't open Atomic wallet, or at least don't open it on device that is connected with internet.
You should export your keys offline and import them to another Neo wallet, than you should sell that shitcoin for Bitcoin... I mean that is what I would do in your shoes.

Hopefully, you'll get and do what you like to do with that and swapping it into BTC if you desire to do that, that's a good decision no matter what's the price of bitcoin now and if you're playing long term.

Thanks for all these explanations, I'm going to start looking for the keys that I must have written down in a notebook somewhere ... It's not easy to manage everything like a wonder woman, which unfortunately I'm not (too bad because I like the magic lasso).

I don't have step 3 "Select Neo Legacy and click Next"  

I tried with the neon wallet, nothing is left ...  

I could reinstall atomic wallet, and then I pulled out a bit of ada that I'd staked out and couldn't remember existed, so in the end, my feelings are mixed. Is it possible that the scammers couldn't take the staked coins? Cryptos are a mysterious business and you really need time to understand everything.

Edit : may be the old "antshares" will reappears in NEO3 thanks to you.

If you can't find the legacy option it seems they already delisted it according to this link below you will need to export the private key and import to another wallet that still support NEO legacy.

I suggest try to import it to Neon wallet developed by City of Zion they have option there to migrate it to N3 once you've done to migrate you can send it to any exchange where you can trade it into BTC.
