I'm still a beginner here, because I just came to the forum about a few months ago. I like discussing on the meta and reputation boards because there the members discuss well and don't just fulfill posting quotas

As far as I know, trust systems and merit systems are built for a specific purpose:

# The trust system was created to protect members from fraudulent activities and keep their money safe from fraudsters
# The merit system was created to minimize account farmers and spammers

Both of these things are subjective and free for the DT (trust system) to mark +/=/- and the merit source (merit system) to send the merit to whoever they like. I don't know if they abuse their power there are consequences for them or not. But they are members with special powers who work like forum police and make the forum better even though sometimes there are members who complain because they feel discriminated against due to wrongful accusations.

I don't want to talk about DT, because I've been dealing with one of the DT members and I've given up  Grin

Regarding the source of merit, I have never had a problem sending your merit to anyone, as it is your right, but this person seems especially nice

So the question is?
A lot has been said about this, so I won't add any more questions. If you want to write feedback, please do so, if not, that's okay. This is just what I wanted to write  Grin

So there is no question?

Systems are subjective because it is people who use them and when it comes to giving merit or leaving feedback there is always a component of subjectivity.

To be honest, it's not clear to me if you're just messing around here, because if you were already writing in reputation posts less than a month after registering, I don't really know why you say things like this:

I don't know if they abuse their power there are consequences for them or not.

No, I'm not messing around here. I just enjoy discussing, writing what's in my head and on my mind.

Hahahaha... Because the likely answer is "yes there are no consequences". Because I sometimes see tags being used for revenge, and merit sources that are too good by sending too many merits

Does these posts deserve to get 20+ merits? I guess not. But each merit sources have their own way to give their sMerit.

I still remember some merit sources were give a lot merit in a single post or few posts because they don't want to waste their time to merit each post for 1-5 merits, so it's like a short cut.

However the good thing is, he meriting the users who are have a lot merits e.g. above 1000, so even they're already have 10K merits, they're still in legendary rank as there's no higher rank than legendary. Although some campaign managers nowadays are giving more incentive for 2000+ merits and so on.

To be honest, it's not clear to me if you're just messing around here
To make it clear I guess he wanted to say if qwk misusing his sMerit.

Hahahaha... Because the likely answer is "yes there are no consequences".

That's simply not true, especially in flagrant cases of abuse of the system. Another thing is cases where for a personal matter that has little to do with trading risk, two DTs end up red tagging each other, and things like that, where the community simply waits for them to resolve the differences between them and end up deleting the tags. But if someone flagrantly misuses the trust system they end up massively distrusted, so out of DT.

Maybe, but someone not a DT member also has the unseen power (ratings sent) to contribute to the abuse. A good step is to avoid forum drama as much as possible, or use the "ignore" button if you are already involved in a personal problem.

It's called "stop being jealous and judging." Each source of merit has a certain reserve, which he is free to dispose of at his discretion. And if the administrator trusts them to do this, then so be it. Another way is to apply for the position of source of merit, and in the future, upon successful consideration of your request, distribute merits as you consider objective. Smiley

You can also earn those 49 merits from him if you really want to, all you have to do is to learn how to speak and write “German Duetsch” and that way you can join his discharge and also earn the 49 merits you so much desired that made you create an entire disguised as trust related thread, and if you can’t learn it then you might as well mind your business and continue doing what you’ve been doing.

Yes, I'm not jealous (maybe a little Grin). Maybe those who receive 49 merits are people who are blessed by heaven.

Apply for a merits source? Are you kidding me, that would never happen to me  Grin

It would have been good if theymos is selecting new merit sources, but he is not taking anyone since many years ago. Anyone that is worth it and applying for merit source are not taken, which are all reputed members on this forum.

He does not need to, if he continue to post good, he will continue to earn merit and rank up. One thing about merit system that people should know is that it is perfect against low quality posts and spams, but no totally perfect because of exactly this complain, favoritism.

Don't... don't... because usually you don't give me merit.  Grin Tongue

To be honest, I don't know which members are the source merits. I only know a few members who often share merit and sometimes when opening their profile, if the number of merit sent is more than received then they are the merits source

You should complain to theymos instead of creating guessing-topics in Meta. Don't take my word for it:
If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me.

And here's this:
It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.
It looks like qwk is not very active and empties his sMerit source once a month now. I'd say it's a case of "not great, not terrible".

There's no question from what I can see. You are bothered about @qwk's generosity in doling merits? Probably the next thread you'd create is of him suspiciously giving merits to an alt? Just like what most of the users are hammering on, every person has his way of giving merits and if you are bit "concerned" you can PM him and call him to order, don't you think?
I won't have analyzed it better than the way @lovesmayfamilis put it. You would say you are just looking out for him but it seems to me you are a bit envious of the recipient of the merit and somehow wish that merit rain falls on you. I doubt if you would have raised this misguided thread if you were the one  receiving it.

Ok so:
1. What makes you think that I'm accusing @qwk of giving merit to alts accounts? he is an account with the title "donatur" he doesn't need alt for sigcamp.

2. I never thought of asking for his merits, what makes you think I asked him for merit?

3. What makes you think that my thread is misguided?

Please explain with clear arguments, you can think badly about me, but don't just talk nonsense and provide clear arguments for what you are accusing me of.

Let's discuss.

Why don't you post from your main account instead of your "activity 140" account when "speaking from authority" about the "vast number of threads you have created" and "how you like to just write without asking questions" (in the four months this current UID of yours has been alive)...

What do you *really* want to know?

If I had a legendary account, I would definitely use it. Do you know how it feels to be ignored in discussions because my account is only a full member?

You are an expert in analyzing alt accounts, please accuse me if I have any mistakes.

btw, what we are talking about is off topic

The only punctuation mark I can find in your post that indicates a question is the line I bolded. There isn’t really any question there, but since you dropped to link to qwk’s merit history, it’s fair to assume this thread was to question how merit sources spend their smerits. I find it hypocritical since you have also received and sent a lot of merits from your local board. I’m not familiar with the user qwk, there’s the possibility he could be a merit source for his local board. Who’s to say which post deserves merit when you’re not a native speaker.

I can translate it. That's easy, right?

I'm not accusing anyone here. Just wanted to write what was in my head. There's no need to be too prejudiced, because I also don't have prejudice against anyone

Honestly I was going to close this thread when @loycev answered so accurately
