I guess they have upgraded the scam a little bit. Usually in this kind of scam, the scammers gives you a wallet or exchange that has the 5k btc in it but is locked. And they ask you to pay a fee to unlock the bitcoins. Scammers are only successful with gullible people. Have you asked yourself why would a total stranger want to gift you that huge amount of money? Someone who wants to gift you $5k btc still needs you to send $100 worth of bitcoin. How is that not a scam to you?

Yes totally scam. Bitcoin transaction is direct and no condition such purchasin minimum amount just to show up on your wallet. In the future, Always ask for transaction ID for the transfer to guarantee the authenticity of the transfer. All transactions is recorded on blockchain and no one can change that records once it receives 3 confirmation or above to be safe.

Use blockchair, mempool and other block explorer to verify all transaction ID and make sure that your Bitcoin wallet address is listed at receiver for the transaction. Keep safe!

Did you ask for financial help and post it in public why would a random guy send you if you're not asking

This is old stuff it's good that you asked for it here before sending it, the guy is trying to scam you of course he did not send it you can check your wallet and the transaction on Explorers, you should be wise to tell him this, if they see that you are naive they will fool you more you said that the address comes from a newly created wallet why not post it here.

This is definitely an obvious scam. Make sure that no legitimate plan will ask you to send even one dollar in exchange for receiving a larger amount. If the matter were legitimate, then logic says that these fees could be deducted from the amount. Also another point regarding this plan: Didn't you ask the question: Why would someone think of providing you with financial aid without prior knowledge of you personally? All of these are signs that it is a pure scam scheme. Beware of offers that are too good to be true. No one will give you free money.

The person only wants to scam you. If you pay that $100, you have been scammed. Avoid what looks too good to be true and do not expect easy money from anymore, the money that you do not work for. They are just ways scammers use to attract victims to pay them money.

I guess they have upgraded the scam a little bit.
But there is no upgrade to know a scam. I am always surprised that some people can fall for this kind of scam. It is distinctly a scam.

It is a scam. Why do they pay you 5000 when they cannot deduct it from your balance? Tell them to withdraw the $100 from that balance and send 4900. Believe me, they will block or ignore you. These services are not scam for money but for data, so be careful of phishing messages that may be sent to your email address you registered and do not provide any personal data to them.

Only greedy people fall this this scammers because why should someone that want to gift me 5k demand me to pay $100 fee why can't the fee be deducted and the remaining balance sent to your wallet?

My advice to you ops is that you should avoid such communications and block the scammer because they are not worth your time.

No doubt, it's 100% a scam. Scammers are using various tactics nowadays just to deceive people. When you encounter offers that seem too good to be true and promises of a large sum of money in exchange for a small upfront payment, consider it a scam. This is what's known as an advance fee scam. A legitimate transaction won't require you to send money in advance to receive money. It's sad to think that cryptocurrency is being used in these ways because of its anonymity, making it difficult to trace. This is indeed the preferred method of use by scammers.

The pay a teeny weeny amount to unlock a huge amount is a well operated scam since a long time now. It has been prevalent much in the fiat stage and has eventually crept up in the crypto space too.

The idea is to trigger the would-be victim's greed by the big amount and then tempt their logic that the loss of the teeny weeny amount would be much small since they are getting a huge amount in return. But the second one is never going to happen, nobody is going to send you free money for anything.

That 100$ you sent would be the scammed amount. So report that person and move on.

If i were you, all i will do is to ignore this scammer and move on, why do you want to earn from where you never invested also, if someone is giving you something, must he first place a demand on that offer before giving you, this is a typical example of scam and if you dare sent him the money he first requested then you're already scammed, it's either he blocked you or continue to device more means to steal from you, i will encourage you not to be greedy or too quick in making, anything that has to do with your cryptocurrency investment must be what you made by yourself, there's no father Christmas anywhere to offer you anything than taking away from you instead.

I hope you haven't sent any $100. It's just a classic fraud through a platform they built themselves. The balance that will be reflected is a fictitious bitcoin that does not represent bitcoin on the blockchain.

Don't fall any deeper, they will ask for more than $100 if you chase further.

This space for rent.

I haven't given him any money, I downloaded Trustwallet off the playstore, and if I did put 100 on there to receive his "5k" I wouldn't be giving him anything, I would be buying 100 of btc on the Trustwallet app. So how would his scam work?

It's good that you've used the image uploader I recommended when you PM me I quoted the images for it to show up

and this is your address in the Explorer as you can see nothing is coming you can ask him for the transaction id to prove that he really sent you the there's also a possibility that the screenshot he sent you is edited, but we guarantee you that he's a scammer and you will find many more of these everywhere, especially on telegram my advice is to read and learn so you will be wise enough to protect yourself.

This is a complete scam they just changed their scamming strategy a bit and their strategy is working. They find crypto users like you, who will send money to them without a second thought when they see such tempting offers. But good to hear you didn't send any money to this scammer.

I haven't given him any money, I downloaded Trustwallet off the playstore, and if I did put 100 on there to receive his "5k" I wouldn't be giving him anything, I would be buying 100 of btc on the Trustwallet app. So how would his scam work?
If you have downloaded the right trustwallet and keep all the wallet information safe then no one can take your funds. So you don't share any of your wallet information with this scammer, he will try to lure you in various ways to get the wallet information from you.

Thank you guys. I felt like it was a scam, my guts kept me safe. But I'm a novice at crypto in general. My only experience was through Robinhood and that was just buying and selling. No wallets or anything so I had no clue. Again thank you guys.

That's good that you've got that gut feel that it was a scam because it was really a scam. Remember that no one is going to give you free money for no reason. And when they ask you to deposit certain amount of money for you to claim it, that's what the scam is.
You just can't receive xx amount of money and then you'll have to pay xx amount for you to get it. That's the logic of scam, they're making you feel you're obliged to pay what they're asking for that money out of thin air that's actually just air and there's no money at all.
