The three presidential candidates which are Tinubu (the incumbent president), Atiku which is the second and Peter Obi which is the third that has the highest vote, are all not from South South. I think you are referring to Peter Obi which is from Anambra state. Anambra are Igbos and Igbos are South East, while some of themselves are referring to it as East.

I have posted before that the problem of Nigeria is beyond tribalism. I prefer regional government, but even if there is regional government, there is nothing that can end tribalism. But tribalism is not the cause of what is happening in most Africa countries, there is something that our leaders are not getting rightly. Also that tribalism has nothing to do with corruption and mismanagement.

The thing is that our country was not built on true federalism, where people will want to stand for the country where there is no tribalism, where there is no ethnicity,  where there is no biasness. the state of America gives their citizens that orientation about the fact that as an American citizen, your an American anywhere you  find yourself wether it is Colorado,  wether is Alaska, wether is las Vegas just name it,  an American citizen identifies himself from anywhere as America.

 but for Nigeria the case is different, because we don't have that sense of nationhood. it is not imbibe in us, we can only have that kind of system if you have true federalism where will begin to remove state of origin, local government of origin.  you can mostly have place of birth, place of residence state of residence and these are some of the things you need to build a true federal state.

This has caused a lot of unemployment in Nigeria. Many graduates out there without jobs are mostly affected by tribalism. I had a friend back then when I was studying for my diploma course. This friend of mine told me that after we graduate, there is already a well-paid job waiting for him. I asked him, "How comes when you have not achieved your certificate? He said to me that his father friend is the MD (managing director) of the organisation. The worst part of it is that someone who studied health courses getting a job in a construction organisation is so sad.

Op you dey make mistake, one thing wey I know for this election matter na who get power dey win election, Nigeria election system just tire me, who no rig election no go dey for power, so if na peoples choice them dey look Tinubu no suppose dey seat. For me oh, because the structure of our country comprises different ethnic groups and different regions, I think it will be very difficult to elect a leader at the federal level without putting factors like, what part the person comes from and do the normal zoning to either the north, south, east, west or what have you.

Of course, competence should be very paramount when electing a leader but if after zoning the presidency to a particular region, the competent ones in that region can now come out to contest for such political position.

I think what had always played out in our election is more of party / personal interest than any ethnic sentiment. A situation where we allow just selected parties and individual to recycle themselves in our political system is a strong indication that we are not ready for any change anytime soon.

Another serious issue of concern about our fellow Nigerian is how they get carried away with small peanut that comes during election and will vote anyone that is willing to pay them small cash on the day of the election.

I was at akwa ibom in the just concluded election and in my compound my neighbours were bragging about how they won't vote a particular candidate for reasons best known to them, when the day of election came, the same party offered to give them just 4k and they shamelessly gave out there vote. Later they will still be the ones to talk about bad leaders.

When we talk about tribalism, this na one menace wey don eat deep into the fibre of all the sectors for this nation, both public or private sectors, which can only take deliberate collective efforts for this to be brought to the least minimum, because this thing called tribalism, no be today eh start, as eh dey for church, eh dey for school, and eh even for community. So until people change their mindset from giving a work or position to someone worthy of such title and not someone from their tribe, the menace tribalism will never stop.
