I'd do that. It's not because I want to ruin our friendship but it's because they might pull me back from gambling if I want out, especially after a big win. Remember, always take two sides of the coin. It might look bad for them because their friends is not with them gambling anymore but for the family of that friend who got out, it is good for them because after that they can enjoy all that money and family is more important than friends.
Let's not judge those who just made the right decision for themselves and perhaps they will realize the same if they also win big and just want out.
That's my opinion about what happened and I hope I am right and it's not because he is just being an ass about the win or being boastful about it.
Family first in everything that we do and at some point, we have to choose between our family and friends and in most cases we go for the family,  believe me that the ops already have that thought in mind before deciding to avoid the gambling friends after the big winning m, because if he continue to walk in the company of those his friends, he will still end up spending all that money on gambling and alcohol since both goes hand in hand mostly in the mist of friend who are celebrating a big win.
Some time taking a distance separation goes a long way to solve a lot of issues as related to changing one thoughts and behaviour because the jackpot winner will make a better decision if with family.

I don’t blame the colleague for his actions, the world is filled with wicked people and don’t everyone who appears to be friends with you are really your friend so maybe their is something which the guy who won the money saw from their friendship which makes him avoid them or maybe they where never friends but just some gambling’s colleagues which he need to give them space in other for him to move far in life.

With those guys knowing what he have at hand now as a result of his winning, they will expect him to lavish the money on things that are not necessary and might also want him to use most of the money to gamble more and more which will not really be a good idea, to me i believe their is something that makes the guy change from being close to them, not just judging from hearing from one side of the story but looking at possible reasons that might cause things to happen that way.

While I believe in the saying that "Money reveals Evil" I don't think the guy who's been hiding from his friends are in the wrong here. And I'm not just saying this for the sake of being the devil's advocate or whatever the fuck.

First off, let's set things straight, he won a lot of money, did he win it because of his friends? Did they win it through the power of friendship or whatever the fuck? I don't think so. From that alone you would understand that the winner is in no way liable to give anything to his friends, he's not indebted to them monetarily or whatever, and if he would be generous to give his friends something back, it's all from good will and not because he owes his friends something. You people act like people owe you for your existence or presence when everything's just a matter of circumstance. Everyone who's saying the winner's on the wrong here should get off their high horses cause most likely, if you were in his shoes you'd probably do something even worse lol.

100% agree with ideas like this. Heck, even if they did somehow influence him say, by telling him to bet on this or on that with this amount and he managed to win big because of that, it does not give them any right to want to take a part of the winnings. If he ever did say treat them to food or something, then as you've said, good will. If not, well, I see no need to judge him, man might have some problems to pay so the winnings were basically gone the moment he got them.

Selfishness isn't wrong imo, especially in this dog shit economy. I'd avoid all matters of money-related issues as well if possible and just save up as much as I can if I could.

As some have already mentioned I would imagine the reason he's doing it is because so many people are hitting him up for money now that they know he has some, and in his way of just avoiding it all together, it would seem he may be blocking most people out of his life for the time being so he doesn't have to turn people down asking for loans, as it's typically not a comfortable situation. This would be my guess anyhow.

Even if it means on losing some relation into some friends then it wont really be that much of an issue.I do heavily agree about on the winnings that you do have on which on the time that it would landed into your hands then you would definitely be making up some priority on paying up your debts on which it would really be that main priority and this is why it would really be that better that you should really be that wise on allocatiing those funds rather than on sharing it up into some friends just because they have given up some tips on what bet you should be taking. There really some friends who do really have that kind of entitling kind of approach on which on the time that their friend make out some huge win then they would really be having those kind of claims that they are really that
having those kind of shares.

This is why you cant really blame someone to have that kind of reaction or action been made just because the are really that people who wont really be that caring about
relationship with other people as long they could really be able to deal with their priorities on which i dont see anything something wrong with it.

After all I finished with my bet headed home and was asking myself what could the colleague act that way avoiding his close friends they all gambling together and just because luck shines on him first he decides to create a distance and class. I couldn't actually annex a good reason why anyone should do that.

We can only speculate on his actions but people will shut him down or avoid him, we don't want people who are stingy and don't care about people around them, there's no reason why he should not give at least a small portion of his winning unless his colleagues are asking to much, it's not really the money its the friendship they had if they are truly friends, but even if they are not friends the fact that they know each other and they are betting together.

I can understand if the winning is small but if it involves a big amount of money it will not hurt your winning if you give at least 5% of your winning to people who support you, there could be ill feeling on both of them that is why he could not share even a small portion, but whatever reason he may have in not giving it will have a bad impact on his character if they are truly friend and you cannot share a small blessing to your friend what more to other people.

At one of the local gambling shop I visited during the weekend I happened to listen to a conversation between two bald looking gamblers at the shop talking about one of their gambling colleague who had won a big amount of money amounting to a million in the local currency and due to that win this colleague of theirs' has been avoiding them since e won that money. From their conversation it was obvious that they were a circle of close three friends that gamble together.

After all I finished with my bet headed home and was asking myself what could the colleague act that way avoiding his close friends they all gambling together and just because luck shines on him first he decides to create a distance and class. I couldn't actually annex a good reason why anyone should do that.

Not all the gamblers will follow this steps like you mentioned,Some people will enjoy the life after the win with their friends.Because his friends was in the hard times of the gamblers, the discussion of the two friends should not be spread.Because it enable some people to do like this after the big win.The people who had ethics in the business won't be do like this. They will split some money to their poor friend to give loan to manange their loss.

If the friends referred to were playing gambling together and because one of them got lucky and led to a big win, they were suddenly avoided, I think that for the person who won the big, the attitude he showed to his friends was not good. It seems that when he avoided it, he thought badly of his friends who were also with him at that time when he was gambling.

If he treated the people he was with at that time as true friends, he should have told them that he needed to stay away because of the amount of money he won, and he also explained that I hope they will also understand his situation if the friends he is with are in his situation. But not everyone has the same thoughts.

True, aside from avoiding people who ask tips from him, it is also possible that he is trying to avoid people for his own safety.  Since it was a huge amount of money, some people may be tempted and have an ill-intention towards them just to have access on the money that he won.  I cannot blame the people who think like this since there are really alot of wicked people everywhere.

It is okay to protect his wealth and his family so I think avoiding his "friends" (not mingling with them) is just a protective behavior of the guy.

The main goals of gambling, particularly enjoyable gambling, are the adventure, the thrill, and the companionship. When someone wins large, everyone celebrates together! But, but, but... if that person suddenly distances themselves without any explanation, it can hurt. It may hurt a lot. It's about the relationship, the trust, and the times spent together; not just about the money

A little talk would have been plenty if he really respected his buddies. A simple "Hey, I won big, and I need time to think about it" I hope you get it." That is all that was necessary. It's about the mutual respect and understanding between friends, not about winning. I mean, everyone deserves that? However, as you correctly noted, not everyone holds the same opinions. It's true, however sad. I hope he discovers that true friends talk to each other soo

Yes, this is so true, there could be some "friends' who suddenly appear and look for him and ask for some money, a free loader, and as gambler, we don't like that kind of individual because we could have been still in the negative side even if we win huge amount of money because we could have been gambling for many years now and it just so happen that you were able to hit that big win.

But after that, I guess, those who are really close friend of the winner will still be friends after all what has been said and done. And if the other one also have a good win, then he can do shows that, avoid them initially, after all things have settled down.

There were many reasons he couldn't say why he did that. It could be that he wants to avoid people or friends who want to borrow his money or keep his winnings private from those who know him. He can also be so afraid of bad people trying to rob him that he thinks about closing himself off from people he knows. We also won't know the real reason because only he knows.

And all these reasons are normal for people who win a lot of money from gambling and it is known to people close to them. Maybe he wants to use his winnings for himself and his family.

Right and I think also maybe most of them do this because of assumptions like what you said above, they prefer to minimize, honestly I wouldn't say they are stingy but maybe many factors could be the reason, it could be because they have other payments, or for urgent needs or it could be they want to pay off their debts, the point is for their own needs. And well maybe they can also avoid people who want to borrow money, but they prefer to keep it a secret because maybe the person who wants to borrow money is not responsible enough.

Yes, everyone has different reasons why they can do that, or rather hide the winnings from the gambling results and of course that is enough reason that they think it is better to do. But in my opinion maybe it is mixed, meaning between those who are stingy and also with those who really have many other needs that become their reasons.

But another common thing that I noticed where I live, a friend who achieved a big win was always a source of pride and every time we went out he never stopped showing off his win by watching replays. So far I have not found a single gambler who avoids borrowing from people or friends, because what is often found is fellow gamblers who give each other tips when one of us wins, at least enough to play for 1 hour.

Money can show a person's true character.
The money that has just been won at the gambling place further clarifies the person's true character, basically he is not loyal to his friends even though he often gambles together, the fact is that he chooses to stay away from his friends when luck comes his way.
Money is neutral, basically money is the same as a knife, it all depends on who holds it. If money is held by someone who is not loyal to his friends, he will walk away when he has money. However, if the money is held by someone who cares about the people around him, he will use the money to help his friends.

If someone wants to stay away from gambling after a big win, that's up to him. Nothing in the incident that the OP mentions suggests that the winner wants to stay away from his company so that he can restrain himself from gambling. He may not want to lose the money of his victory. It is not clear that he is estranged from his friends to do exactly. In this regard it is also possible that his friends may not be friendly with him or he doesn't feel safe. As long as he has the cash on hand, he may want to stay away until then and return to gambling later. There are some aspects that no one but a gambler himself will be able to understand why he doesn't want to meet with others.

The very first thing that comes to mind after hearing that story is that he wasn't a true friend and he just needed some people to hang out with and pass his free time because he is most probably avoiding them because he thinks that if he still stays with them, they might ask him for money since they are gamblers as well and we all know that gamblers tend to ask their close ones to lend them money so that they can gamble and repay it back when they have money.

So, I don't see that being surprising really, unless they are friends from a very long time, maybe from childhood, and the guy just ditched them recently because of the big win, but if that isn't the case, I'm 100% sure what I said above is the actual reason why is avoiding the two friends that he used to gamble with.

However, if the money is held by someone who cares about the people around him, he will use the money to help his friends.
He still cares with people around him, but he reduce his circle when he have money.

Before he have money, his priority:
1. Family
2. Girlfriend/boyfriend
3. His friend
4. Other people
5. Him

When he already have money, his priority now:
1. Girlfriend/boyfriend
2. Him
3. Family
His friend & Other people

It's already nothing new because people think there's no real friends because they've experienced to become a royal with a fake friends. So they treat every friends are same and not deserved to get his money.

For a truth, a person's true character is best known when the person has a lot of money or affluence and that's why some people change automatically whenever they win big in gambling.
That being said, some people avoid some of their friends whenever they win big in gambling because if the kind of influence and advice that comes from such friends. Someone who's been gambling for ages and eventually wins big will definitely want to invest huge amount of his winnings on something meaningful and that person is expected to avoid friends that'll advise him to squander the money on material things that aren't gonna be helpful in future to him
