Simply because you don't need to own one(1) full bitcoin to take advantage of it, it's like saying buying a gold bar is expensive so instead of buying a few grams of gold, you're going to buy a turd instead.

You don’t need to purchase whole bitcoin to hold it. You can simply purchase few Satoshi and still benefit on its price growth in proportion to your holdings instead of buying shitcoins with low price but has a massive supply.

Bitcoin supply is limited while most of the shitcoins is still has a lot to be added on the circulating supply. You can suffer huge loss on shitcoins because they are more volatile due than Bitcoin so you should stick to Bitcoin since you are still a newbie. A 10% gain on Bitcoin is still the same 10% gain on altcoins with much cheaper price.

Do you mean you've bought or you want to buy some Bitcoin? It's true, currently the price of Bitcoin is still within the range of 36k-37k which might seem high for the now. If you are considering buying it will be advisable to do so now because we are currently experiencing a bull market now and it's price might be higher than what it is today. It's usually adviced to purchase Bitcoin during the dip and hodl till the ath but the price you see today might be the dip  tomorrow, so If you have the money to buy, do so without wasting time.

There are other cryptocurrencies you might consider, but it's generally not recommended because most altcoins are more volatile and less valuable than Bitcoin. So, investing in Bitcoin might be your best option. Right now, it's crucial to learn how to keep your coins safe and secure.

I would be careful with XRP and actually with the vast majority of altcoins (if not all). They tend to have the bad habbit of not being a viable long (and very long) term investment.

Indeed, Bitcoin price can look scary. But as said, you don't have to buy one entire Bitcoin.
Plus, since you probably didn't start learning long ago, you may want to understand properly how to keep your coins really safe before investing big bucks in it. So starting with small steps is not that bad.

I really understand your situation because I have been there before. I will advice you to start building your Bitcoin portfolio no matter how small you start but be consistent in it. Like people already commented, you must not start with 1 BTC, just little fractions and done consistently will do the magic.

If you are intentional about it, set aside small percentage of every funds you earn to be injected into Bitcoin in such a way that you will not be pressured to sell it. Do thus for few years from now and see where you will be in the future in regards to your Butcoin portfolio.

It is better for you to cut the crab and start your investment plans by creating an opportunity for investment. What I really mean is for you to get your portfolios started as you are getting to know about Bitcoin. You can't just sit down and keep learning about Bitcoin. You also have to keep some coins in your crypto wallet because the coins in your wallet will help you learn more about Bitcoin.
However, if you are trying to tell us that Bitcoin's price is high and that is why you are procrastinating to buy Bitcoin, that means you also have to get ready for the price if Bitcoin hits $60k and above within a short term.
So you better start buying and don't just keep your eyes on the price, although I don't really believe in altcoins, because those coins are not meant to be trusted.

Perhaps why almost everyone is hammering on Bitcoin investment is because it's the surest of the pack not to disappear into thin air. If you talk of great ROI, Bitcoin won't give as much as some of the altcoins will give within a space of two years but it's the only coin one can buy and go to sleep with both eyes firmly closed. There's a reason Bitcoin is often recommended to newbie investors and that's to keep them away from heartbreak that will arise from loss. Talking about XRP, just be careful. It's the only top altcoin from way back in 2017 till date I've refused to buy and hodl. There's something about it I don't like.

It is not as difficult to make any decision here. Bitcoin should be the first on your list. Most newbies get distracted by shitcoins and would eventually return to bitcoin when they learn their lessons the hard way. Bitcoin requires no stress if you investing using DCA and stay true to it.

As for the altcoin, you do not need to dump it just yet but do not invest anymore in it. Just hold it and watch the pump and dump season with the altcoins when it comes. And let it be a reminder that bitcoin remains king.

Bitcoin is still on it growing level to the ATH so if you have the money, you should buy now because the price will definitely pass $40+k and bitcoin is still $37k and the last ATH was $69k and this coming ATH will more than that 2021 ATH so if you buy now the finally the price hit the ATH of $80+k, you will be smiling. The price of bitcoin is not too high, and you can buy fractions of Bitcoin with any amount of money you set aside for Bitcoin investment.

Since you are new to Bitcoin, I will advise you to learn about Bitcoin and how it works here, learn about Bitcoin keys and address, wallets and others before you fully start buying your Bitcoin.

XRP and any other coins apart from Bitcoin are all altcoins, and they are worth thorough research before investing in them because, unlike Bitcoin, they are centralized while Bitcoin is decentralized.

Finally, understand the risk behind all investment including Bitcoin investment before starting, and you should invest the money you can afford to lose.

I do not get why some folks think Bitcoin is too pricey to buy into right now.  But let us think this through - what happens if the price goes back to 69k? Or 100k? Or more? Seems like waiting for the right price could backfire big time. 

The cool thing with bitcoin (and crypto in general) is that you can invest however much or little as you want.  Whether we are talking about a single dollar or a million bucks.  Either way, you will get some amount of Bitcoin for your buy. Say you have got 370 bucks ready to deploy right this second.  The question becomes: is it better to get 0.01 BTC or 660 XRP? Id go with the 0.01 Bitcoin, personally.

There's nothing wrong about buying Bitcoin as opposed to XRP simply the because the price is several thousands. That's exactly the reason why the concept of sats exist. So you don't have to buy 1 Bitcoin to join the bandwagon. Even smaller denominations count. Another point I wanted to point out is that you should take out time to gather enough research to back up whatever decisions you make it the end and don't just take anybody words for it because aside XRP, there are still some good altcoins but then, you need to manage your risks properly.

Bitcoin is surely the most recommended coin for investment. Meanwhile XRP isn't a bad coin, but you need to do more research on it if you are interested to invest in XRP, too. Personally, I prefer to invest in ETH, BNB, or ADA if I decide to buy altcoins. By the way, you don't need to buy 1 BTC, you can buy BTC with $50 only. You can adjust how much you want to spend money on the Bitcoin.

That's the time you will know if it's Bitcoin you really want or if you want to invest in cryptocurrency, and Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency. Of course, Bitcoin is the best, still, I don't believe you will regret altcoins if you are sure of your investment in a good project. Fortunately for you, Ripple (XRP) is a good option, and if I were you, I would invest in both.

The price of Bitcoin shouldn't be a determinant factor for you to invest in it, don't  take it that way because there are several things that contribute to that fact.
1: you must not buy the whole 1 unit of Bitcoin before you start your Bitcoin holding journey.
2: You shouldn't border so much about Bitcoin dollar value at this point to make your Bitcoin buying decision as long as you are nig buying when the price is at ATH since doing so will increase your waiting time.
3: bitcoin is less risky compared to some of the altcoins that are still at low price levels.

deepen your insight, there is enough time for you to slowly learn about bitcoin and altcoins, anyway you have to study bitcoin well before deciding to invest in it, also study its history and price history, if your benchmark is price of 1 bitcoin then of course the price is quite high ^{(i myself can't afford to buy 1 bitcoin directly lol)} but there are still the smallest parts of bitcoin such as mbtc and satoshi, many bitcoin investors are use DCA to buy bitcoins periodically over the time span they determine, and so far it is an effective strategy even for employees with small salaries.

If you consider the fact that Bitcoin can be bought in chunks, you can never think that it is very expensive or very high to invest.  Imagine, you can buy at least $5-$10 of Bitcoin, and that amount is affordable even in a developing country where wages is much lower than the developed one.

Please be reminded that we don't have to buy the whole Bitcoin in order to invest on it.  If we think that way then it is indeed very expensive because $37k is not a small sum of money but it is a good thing that Bitcoin is divisible and we don't need to have $37k to get into Bitcoin investment.

Learn to DCA if we don't have big enough fund to get a huge chunk of BTC, accumulating through DCA is one of the better strategy in accumulating Bitcoin without putting too much stress on our financial capability.

So if your bank account isn't looking like you can grab a big chunk of BTC, that's cool.  Do that dollar cost averaging thing the experts talk about.  Little bits at a time buying what you can when you can.  Thats one of the smarter ways to start stacking sats without overwhelming your funds.

you can always wait for the price to go down(which could happen anytime), but the question is, how low is affordable for you? investing in Bitcoin comes with a risk, if you think investing in it is too pricey/expensive, then it would be better to just not invest yet because it looks like you are not yet ready to commit and would pull out once the price suddenly falls which would leave you at a negative profit.

OP, have you not heard about "buy the dip and hold?" While investing in Bitcoin, you don't have to wait until you save up $37k+ before you can buy 1 bitcoin at once. All you have to do is buy the dip and hold, keep buying a little fraction of Bitcoin all the time you have some money to allocate into Bitcoin, and before you know it, you might have more than 0.2 Bitcoin. It's only some institutions, rich people who have enough money, that end up buying one Bitcoin at once because they have all the money it takes, but for people like us who don't have that much money at once, we invest in Bitcoin on a DCA (dollar cost average).

Seriously, he should've bought bitcoin before even considering the other altcoins cos most of them are not considered a long time investment and might liquidate and disappear soon, but I don't blame him much as he's new and is seeking guidance. Bitcoin is the oldest and much more prominent investment of all, it has prove itself over the years and will continue proving itself for many years to come.
OP should buy as much as he's got and not aiming at buying a full BTC. The more he wait, the more expensive bitcoin might get and at this point,  delay is dangerous, he should accumulate as much as he can cos the bull run is expected to occur very soon.

But bitcoin price is not too high for anyone to buy, you don’t have to buy 1 bitcoin, there is no minimum amount of bitcoin that you can buy, so you don’t have to say bitcoin price is too high for you to afford to invest, with even $1, you can invest in bitcoin. Maybe you just think bitcoin price is already too high and you are scared to invest in it. That’s why you have decided to give this excuse that you just gave above. It’s better to keep accumulating your bitcoin if you have the money and ignore the current bitcoin price, but you should know your investment will be long-term and not short-term.
 
Why XRP? I am not really in support of XRP, you should have chosen another altcoin and invested in it. I am not really a fan of XRP, and since their lawsuit, I don’t trust the coin any longer, and I won’t recommend people who prefer investing in altcoins to invest in it. If you can’t invest in bitcoin alone, then look for a better altcoin and invest in it.

If he is not very sure with other alts but have good feeling about it, he can invest but as much as possible, use only small amount of money.
So if in case something goes wrong, he won't get screwed so much. Alts are hard as they have their own market performance depending on the dev team's updates and development plans.
There are still alts which are worth to invest but should be diligent enough to study them about their potential.
Better to take it slow when it comes to alts, should not hurry as you may end up liquidating your assets. Stay with top projects for the moment.

It all depends on how much money are you going to invest and the price or the amount of BTC you'll get doesn't matter so, if you want to invest then invest. In this aspect, it's obvious and understanding that bitcoin is the most best coin in cryptocurrency that have a potential and also remain potential and valuable in other cryptocurrencies,  as a Newbie I will advice you to ensure that you have already know the value of altcoins and bitcoin before you run or venture into investment, so therefore for you to know a good coin to invest you have make a proper research of cryptocurrency and valuable altcoins that's in the market before any other investment.

Bitcoin is most preferred investment asset because of its ability to bounce back even if there is a market fluctuations and this is something which is not possible or really difficult with altcoins like XRP I still remember XRP is yet to breach its previous ATH which it attained during 2017 but that's not the case with Bitcoin and it's less volatile compared to other crypto henc people here discuss more about Bitcoin when compared to other crypto coins. If you have already invested in XRP then hodl on to it as once a year or once in two year we usually see sudden spike in value of XRP you may sell it that time. You may invest with whatever amount you have as there is no hard and fast rule that you have to buy minimum of 1 BTC or so.

Before rushing into Bitcoin investment OP, think about your investment approach. There are a lot of ways to buy bitcoin whether a whole or some fractions of it. It all depends on your financial strength.

You can lump sum when the price dips a little or buy gradually buy steadily DCAeing weekly or monthly. It is not compulsory to buy comeplete whole of Bitcoin. Even if you have all the money, you only invest the amount you can afford to lose. This is my humble advice from my own experience.

I would vouch for the opposite. There are more altcoin enthusiasts than Bitcoin enthusiasts and they shill altcoins more seriously than shill Bitcoin.

For your investment question, when you spend money to invest, you have to mind about two things: risk and benefit, from the capital you spend for an investment.

About risk, Bitcoin has smaller risk than altcoins. Smaller but it is still risky so if you are not accept risk, can not afford to lose your money, don't invest even in Bitcoin.

About profit, Bitcoin is best in long run because so far, with each market bull run every four years, Bitcoin always makes its new all time high. It's hard for you to find altcoins that can make their new all time highs with new market bull runs. In general and long run, Bitcoin gives you best profit.

When I was the newbie, I've always wanted to buy Bitcoin as a whole, and when I mean as a whole, I mean 1 Bitcoin. A few days after, I learned that 1 Bitcoin can be divided into 100,000,000 Satoshis, and in fact you can buy fractions of a whole Bitcoin. OP, don't focus on acquiring 1 Bitcoin especially now that you're a newbie, and you don't have enough money to buy it. Of course when you are rich enough to buy one then go buy it, but if you really want to buy Bitcoin, at least buy fractions of it.

Learn first before investing. Equip yourself with knowledge first before investing your money. There are lots of information that you can get online. I'm a proof that I only learn at least the basics online. No mentors, no paid courses, all free. If I did, so can you OP. Buy $5,000 worth of BTC. If you can't afford that, buy $3000 worth of BTC. Can't effort that? Then just buy $1,000 worth of BTC. Buy, hold, and just forget about that. To me, since you are still studying to understand bitcoin, I suggest you still engage in more research and request guidance from experts that will guide you in the process so that you won’t end up losing what you worked for within a short period of time, but with guidance from experts and research, you won't be a victim of such an incident.

OP can do as you have said if only OP is willing and ready to do so as it is not a must that for one to hold bitcoin, one must buy 1 full bitcoin to be termed or tagged a bitcoin holder or investor. This is the reason why it is advised to use your spare cash to make investment in bitcoin by buying to hold for a long time. OP can buy  in fraction, bit by bit  with a target at hearth for which OP could achieve it gradually as it is inline with OP budget. IMO there is no point OP should be worried about the buying price going below. This is because that is in the nature of Bitcoin that you bought at 35k today doesn't mean it will continue going high from there without doing any low movement. It may go down to 27k or 25k. What Op should be concerned is about the long term price of Bitcoin. This will encourage him to hold his Bitcoin for long. This is just a mere misconception about Bitcoin. Although, Bitcoin is actually the most popular cryptocurrency and has seen the most growth but there are actually thousands of other cryptocurrencies on the market. Yes, we can not argue that these other coins may not have the same name recognition as Bitcoin but they also have their own unique features and use cases. Investing in XRP is not wrong at all because diversifying your portfolio by investing in multiple cryptocurrencies can help you minimize your risk.

I'm not trying to discourage you but trying to get an investment that will give a return like Bitcoin is like looking for a diamond in your house surrounding because there is none. Since you are in the bitcointalk forum, expect that majority of the people will only talk about bitcoin as the main topic. But that does not mean that it's the only coin worth investing knowing there are really a lot but they are not as profitable like bitcoin. Research is the key. However, if you want to own bitcoin, then start buying even a portion of it. You don't have to buy a whole bitcoin, just a portion of it and follow the DCA strategy so you can increase gradually your bitcoin hodling.

It's a good thing that you are studying bitcoin first before you decide to invest. That way, no matter how high its volatility and no matter how risky it is, you are aware already on how to overcome them and end up with a successful investment.

You don't need to buy large amounts to take an investment approach in bitcoin and you should allocate funds that are proportional to your abilities if you want to invest it. The reason is clear because bitcoin is one of the best and bitcoin is also able to maintain the value of the investments you make. Simply put, when you invest in bitcoin you don't need to worry about the price and even if bitcoin experiences a decline in the future, there will always be a way for bitcoin to return to the recovery path.

If you don't have a lot of money to buy then use DCA as a way to collect bitcoins. There are many posts explaining DCA on this forum and all you need to do is study them to understand the correct way to use it. There is nothing difficult when you want to try to learn it because something that is studied properly will provide good conclusions when we want to carry it out.

Do you know the most interesting part of bitcoin? No amount is too small for you to invest, and with a little amount of money, you can be able to get yourself some bitcoin. BTC is the best at the moment even though it is always swayed by the market price. You're damn right bitcoin right now is the only cryptocurrency worth investing on, it's with an irrelevant risk when compared to other altcoins supposing you are investing for a long term. Don't get bothered about the price you don't have to owned 1bitcoin to be a proud BTC owner you can always buy from how much you have and probably DCA to increase your portfolio returns eventually. Bitcoin is not expensive like the way you think , just buy the amount you can afford to lose. One thing you should know is that bitcoin can be bought in fractions. Meaning you can buy what you can afford. like buying 0.0007575 BTC at $31 in current exchange rate. And meanwhile don be decived by the pump you see in other coins, buy selling your bitcoin for trash because it has been the mistake of many people here. Because to me, though it's true Bitcoin that the current price of Bitcoin is high at the moment, but yet it remains the only coin you could invest in it and be rest assured of having value for your money in a very long period of time, unlike most altcoins who's value deprecaite just like fiat as time goes on. I also have some top altcoins and memecoins to hold on to. not just bitcoin, because I don't put my eggs in just one basket, but I separate them into other baskets. actually there is no harm in investing in other coins that have great potential such as ETH, SOL etc., because they are the top altcoins. I even made a profit from many of these coins. Bitcoin can be the main investment, but there must be other investments that support the main investment. this will be a double benefit.

Yeah.  Altcoins can definitely be super risky for new crypto investors since a bunch of them turn out to be total scams.  I wouldn't tell my friends to throw money at random altcoins without doing some homework first.  But I also think getting some skin in the game with some cheaper altcoins can help beginners start to understand stuff like digital wallets, blockchain transactions, etc.  It's not a bad way to get the basics down without having to risk thousands upfront like you would with bitcoin and  i kinda wish I had played around with some small amounts of altcoins when I first started rather than jumping straight to bitcoin cuz there was definitely a learning curve there.  So while I agree altcoins have tons of downsides for crypto noobs, I think tiny investments to help them start grasping concepts isnt the worst idea either.

I think op need to buy whatever he feel like buying since many of the tokens we have in the market have their own prices. The price of Bitcoin is not too high like the way he is thinking since we can always buy smaller units of Bitcoin and still make profits for ourselves.

You can always purchase BTC in small quantities if you cannot afford huge amounts of quantities at the moment. For example, you can purchase 0.001 worth of BTCs which can cost around ~$40 at the current market price. From this, you can gradually increase the amounts of your investment overtime with just a relatively small amount of value in the market. No one is forcing you to purchase 1 BTC outright.

I do believe that once the fork happens this year, the price of BTC will again skyrocket like what happened last 2021 when it reached an ATH of ~$60k. I believe that we may go back to that price and that would be the price floor of BTC in the coming years until the next fork happens again.

Bro, you can still buy a Bitcoin with a couple of dollars and you know what you can even buy Bitcoin with a single dollar some exchanges need a minimum of ten dollars but you can still buy it hehehe.

Anyway, most altcoins are also expensive to take a look at Ethereum today you need 2000$ to own a single Ethereum but you can also start from 10$ too. Just opinion I think you should buy crypto with mid marketcap meaning is still below 10 billion and start with 1 billion usually these coin are still at the top 100 by marketcap but have much bigger return than bitcoin but Do your own research first before buying
