Thank you for understanding what i wanted to say, i didn't want to be arrogant or presumptuous, i was just hazarding a hypothesis as to why the admin of the most famous bitcoin forum had decided to ban mixers and mixer advertising. I honestly don't know why.
I believe clues and he already some insights as to why he went for banning mixer on the OP If you read the first post of the thread you would get a better view. The plan was if the law towards mixers gets lenient and less of an all out attack The forum would reform the current ban So far so good nothing has changed and the future quite looking a little bleak for privacy.

...because mixers are scams? Chipmixer bought a ton of advertising on bitcointalk and then stole everyone's coins: ~snip~ Even my chips which I had in chipmixer service for which they claimed to "delete private" keys after 7 days or whatever, were seized/transfered. and these transactions took place good 3 months ago.
It seems that you are right, whoever had vouchers or chips was left without them. I checked some old wallets older than 1 year that only contained chips from CM, and they were all emptied. Yes, it's a bit stupid that I didn't spend them, but honestly I forgot about a few $ in those old wallets. It's really strange that it wasn't all deleted, but now we at least know where even 7GB of data came from. Can confirm, they stole a chip of mine a friend of mine that he hadn't yet spent. :/ Really fucking bad practice of ChipMixer to keep private keys, not gonna lie. It was still there today morning and even when the news broke here; I he had not considered that private keys may have been backed up on CM servers to be honest.

CM didn't steal anything from me, but those who initiated its shutdown did. Technically my coins are probably in what is called the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve along with roughly 330 000 BTC that the US government has appropriated over the years. It's my fault for leaving some coins in old wallets, and CM's fault for not deleting the same private keys.

Theymos do not ban scammers, and they let community handle them with the trust system. The reason is pretty simple and it is the 1st paragraph of the OP. . But this is not a darknet forum, and with mixers looking "grayer and grayer", it's no longer reasonably possible to allow mixers to operate here with complete freedom.

...because mixers are scams? Chipmixer bought a ton of advertising on bitcointalk and then stole everyone's coins: I cannot remember the full story regarding how Chipmixer was brought down but from what I can recall, it was not in the manner that you are describing. If your narrative is that Chipmixer ran a signature campaign in order to steal coins, then that seems to be patently false as there was no evidence to suggest it was either a honey trap or created with the specific intention of stealing from those that used their services. Even if this is true, that is not the reason for the ban. Theymos do not ban scammers, and they let community handle them with the trust system. After the Sinbad mixer was shutdown, theymos took action to ban mixers. I raised issues about Sinbad for around six months before it was seized: After Chipmixer, Is Sinbad.io Next To Be Shutdown?

His words should not be considered reliable, because he always thinks that only his way of thinking is correct. His claim that he "stole everyone's coins" isn't true. CM didn't take stole a single satoshi from me. As @Lucius says, the CM owner didn't steal the coins and disappear. The authorities confiscated them.

I was initially very outraged and frustrated about Mixers being banned but I am pretty sure Bitcoin Talk would have been pretty much gone by now if theymos did not take any action at the time. Looking back, it was probably the right decision with perfect timing.

Under the circumstances at the time, he had a decision to make and he stood by it ever since. I have no idea what would have happened to the forum if mixers were not banned when the decision was made but using Altcoinstalks as a comparator, there does not seem to have been any movement by any governmental agency to shut it down even though it was (and still is) allowing mixers. I was initially very outraged and frustrated about Mixers being banned but I am pretty sure Bitcoin Talk would have been pretty much gone by now if theymos did not take any action at the time. You really think? Can you really vision bitcointalk seized because a few mixers were running signature campaigns here? Really? Up to this day I still think theymos did something that wasn't really necessary. No one was going to shutdown bitcointalk because NinjaMixer was running an ANN here, talking about their maintenance.

What do you think could happen next? The now popular no KYC instant exchanges getting banned because a few have been sanctioned and seized here and there just because some "hackers from North Korean and Iran" used them to launder some money? Honestly a part of me feels this might happen in the future if we are to go by the same standards as what happened to the Bitcoin mixers but I hope we don't come to that.

When I see the harsh move done in the gambling discussion to people talking there and the way many other parts of the forum were treated, I wonder what's going on. What's the point of keeping the discussion in this topic for example? Will you revert the decision done? Then you have to convince theymos who made the decision in the first place. I simply see posts here as genuine spam from the ones popping the topic, not necessarily the ones responding to them.

They want to ban everything and everyone from having privacy except for their sorry souls, those people who are writing these laws. They want everyone to perform KYC but we all know that KYC is a scam and the companies performing this stuff will be happy to give out our own data to the government, and even to hackers, for free!If we verify our data like this, we will all be less safe because criminals will be happy to attack people who dutifully verify their ID while having a balance while using someone else's stolen identity for their own stuff. Nobody should bend the knee to these people. This is the whole point of having a free speech forum.

Perhaps they would never directly shut down the forum, but it could lead to complications and hassles in legal proceedings or court cases. We have to consider that a lot has changed since then in the US, where the forum is located. So, perhaps we haven't seen any more movements against mixers because things have changed.

... You seriously bring up the topic of signature bans here and bitch about it because in your own perception you're a victim of it? That's quite laughable in comparison to what this topic here is about. This thread here has been opened by theymos and I see no issue or spam when posts here are mainly about mixer (restrictions) related things. Following the lengthy discussion here, theymos has adjusted rules regarding mixer restrictions to provide more clarity. It's not uncommon that first rules show some potentially harmful ambiguity which needs to be honed out. I don't know if he can be convinced to reverse mixer restrictions. I strongly believe that the decision to ban mixers here was not made lightly and that he had enough evidence to have to go this path for the wellbeing and continued existence of Bitcointalk. Talking here about it may or may not influence theymos in whatever way. There's nothing wrong with this.

Are you for real? Whose coins did Chipmixer stole? Oh, if authorities shut them down and they weren't able to refund anything, it's not really their mistake but Chipmixer hasn't really stolen anyone's coins.
Everyone has to realize that banning mixers on Bitcointalk was the right decision that theymos took. You might want privacy and support it but it's impossible to promote such services on bitcointalk, especially when we got a post from Dutch authorities. Either we allow mixers and this forum closes soon and we will lose such a wonderful place or we simply forget the existence of mixers on this forum and we continue discussion and coexist. Honestly, I feel like some people want to make some extra few bucks for a couple of months and that's why they want mixers to return, so they'll join their high paying signature campaign because otherwise it makes no sense why should someone supporting this idea and putting the existence of this forum into extreme danger. And care about they theymos too, we shouldn't want him to be in a trouble.

You are wrong, Chipmixer specifically intended to steal coins from those that used their services. Are you for real? Whose coins did Chipmixer stole?
Yes, I am for real. Chipmixer stole coins from everyone who had deposits on their site when they shut down (including confirmed thefts from several bitcointalk users: n0nce, Lucius, and james3441) ~snip~ Even my chips which I had in chipmixer service for which they claimed to "delete private" keys after 7 days or whatever, were seized/transfered. and these transactions took place good 3 months ago.

Chipmixer claimed to delete the private keys, but retained them so they could rob you in the future. So yes, Chipmixer did steal your coins.~snip~ You have no idea what you're talking about. CM operated in such a way that, after the mix, the user received private keys or could choose a voucher - this meant you could immediately send your coins to a new address, and no one could steal anything from you. Therefore, I repeat once again that CM did not steal anything, the coins that remained on the private keys after mixing and that were not sent to new addresses were seized by the US government. I doubt you can grasp something so simple, but if you read it several times, perhaps one day you will understand.

There are scam casinos but casinos are still permitted in the forum for advert, cause not all casinos are scammers. I was not around when this ban issue happened but from the op in the first page it can be known why the ban on mixers by theymos. It goes deeper than just about a matter of scam association on mixers.
