I am not sure where you read that Croatia won the World Cup in 1966. Croatia's first World Cup as an independent country was in 1998 in France. They ended that tournament in third place. Considering it was their debut, I would say it was pretty historic. They were third again in the last World Cup in 2022. Before that, in 2018, they were defeated in the finals by France and won silver. Croatia is a small country if you compare it to many other regular WC participants. If you take that fact into consideration, I would say that the 3 medals they have won so far (since 1998) is pretty significant.
