Hi.
I've been away for a long time and I guess my account was archived.
Is there anyone who can revive it for me. My user and email are the same if that helps.
I'd love to look back at my old posts and see what a knob I was back in the day.
Much appreciated

First of all, move the topic to the Meta section. This is not the place for it. And secondly, what account are we talking about? Write down which account you are talking about. No one will tell you anything without the account name. There are no psychics here.

Did you try the account recovery guides? Account recoveries are moving againRecovering hacked/lost accountsFYI: "ownership change queued"If you posted your Bitcoin address or Ethereum address in your posts, quoted by some forum members, and now you can sign a message from those addresses, it will be so helpful for your account recovery. But if you still have access to your email, you can recover your account easily with Forgot my password, and use password reset through email. Did you try it?

If you still have access to the email then i don't think you need to worry since you can just restore your account using the mail to reset your password back and nothing much, except you aren't the real owner of that account or you completely lost access to the email account before you could need additional help to get your restored.

It can be the account is locked. In that case, the email has to be the first email that was used when the account was created. People changes their email address later but I can suggest everyone that you need the first email address to help you to recover your locked account. In the case of hacked and other recovery, it is also important too.

Since your last login was November 02, 2017, you need to follow this ---> Recovering hacked/lost accounts If you can still access these addresses [1], then attach the signature of the message from one of these addresses to the email and the account recovery process will speed up, or sign a message here containing This is TheBTCRat UID (3600171), I lost access to my old account @Ratters UID (159141) today is January 05, 2024, last bitcoin block hash is .....

Why do you believe that your old account is archived? I don't see anything registered in the Meta Log. What message do you get when you try to log in? Read this post from theymos: Recovering hacked/lost accounts If you get a message similar to "your account is locked"
You should be given an email address in the error message. Send an email there and you will be given further instructions.

You can still recover your account mate, the most important thing is access to the original email address you used for registering the account. You can write to the team that helps recover accounts using that email address and follow the instructions in the links shared by one of the members, especially " Recovering hacked/lost accounts" You should be sorted in a couple of weeks or less, unlike some years back where people would have to wait for months or years before even getting a response from the admin.

Snipped Now that you're already giving information about your old account how could it be revived or you get information on the status of the account, was it that you're banned or you just left it dormant being inactive for long and couldn't remember the login info, but if you have the account username with you then you can possibly search for it and go through it's post history to see for yourself what you have made in the past on your profile.

So...
I've not been able to get into my old account. Pretty sure I know the email.
I looked through my own posts and it looks like I/ME stopped posting in 2015. My last post was WTB GPU.
Then the account was dormant until 2017 and most of the posts from that year are in broken English or Russian, I also appear to have a Russian Sig!
I'll bet that around that March 2017 my email address was changed as I have tried to reset it and received no email.
I guess my account got taken over, very strange.

~snip~ I guess my account got taken over, very strange.
It is not at all strange considering that in the first half of 2015 the forum was hacked and many BTT accounts were compromised after that. If by any chance you were active at that time, this would not have happened because you would have changed your password. Do you have a staked address? That's the only thing you can prove your ownership with, since I doubt the admins can do anything about the IP address, since it's been a long time since you last logged in with that account.

You have your quoted bitcoin address on the forum. Bitcoin address: 1NbyAR3YeU1efCqrdsDctZobUEDWazN4y2 Starting posts: 335
Thanks, you've been added. Do you have access to this address? Can you sign a message this address? If you can, your account can be restored. To do so, check out this topic Recovering hacked/lost accounts and do as it says. In this case, the probability of recovering your account is quite high.

I think 1NbyAR3YeU1efCqrdsDctZobUEDWazN4y2 is an old exchange.
I can see I received from this address to my multibit wallet
460dce78c0796661d38358fe6efd1ed4bfcae7f4dd0224b18e2452cb5a2737fc a02c3e7ea4def124dd25337d674ae3b399f7dd1f652e8ec23fa03a661a3b9d13 f924422f2d5b701fb26c3ccdcf64f213a0b2c29f2929d7a62be2609965d7fe53
I have no idea why I would have set that as a Sig campaign address!
Perhaps it was my first BTC wallet address but that wallet will be long gone i think.
Thanks for the help guys, guess my old account remains dead!

I think you can still recover your account if you have access to your main e-mail that you used the register the account on the forum. I don't know if you will get access to your account or not but I still suggest you to try to recover your account from your main e-mail address. The chances are low but still there are some chances.

If you don't have access to any, only bitcoin address where you can sign a message from. Just write to them about why you can't sign a message too. A staked address is not a must but increases your chances of having the account recovered. What is a must is access to the original email address you used for registering. They will also look at the IP logs of your account, before and after you lost access to it. That will be used to confirm that indeed your account changed hands.

If you get a message similar to "your account is locked"You should be given an email address in the error message. Send an email there and you will be given further instructions. If you are bannedYour ban message may have an email address which you can email. If not, then appeals are unlikely to be accepted. If your account was hackedEmail recoveries_2021_xxlgg@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address. Include your username and a brief description of the details of how/when the account was hacked. A signature will likely be required (see below). If you forgot the password or similarTry using the email password reset. Check that the email isn't ending up in your spam folder. If that doesn't work, email recoveries_2021_xxlgg@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address. Include your username. A signature will likely be required (see below). SignaturesOften, you need to prove ownership of the account with a PGP or Bitcoin signature. This has two steps: 1. You need to show that the PGP key or Bitcoin address is associated with the account, for example by referencing an unedited post in which you posted the address. 2. You need to sign an appropriate message with that key/address. For example, this is an example of an appropriate proof of ownership: -----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE----- My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>. -----BEGIN SIGNATURE----- <insert address here> <insert signature here> -----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ... Note the following elements: - The message contains the username, the desired new email, and the current date. - You specify the address. - You include a signature. - You link to the association between the address used for signing and the account.

If you have access to the email you used to register for the forum and you are confident that the hacker does not have access to that email, you can try setting a new password for your account using the password recovery feature. If you haven't tried it yet.

If there was a breach, the hacker 'knows' the email too, it will be on display in your profile before they changed it. Only use the original email it if as suggested above you are the only one with access to it.

You have to email them through the original address, that is the number one proof that you are the original owner of the account and so you still have control of the original email address. Did you do so? If yes, please give them about a week and see if they will respond to your request. And yes, this is the email address they still use to receive messages for account recoveries Email recoveries_2021_xxlgg@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address.

Back in the day account recoveries used to take months, but for a while now they've been getting sorted out within a good timeframe. Try sending a reminder email and then giving it a few days.

To be honest, I never even knew someone here can help you recover your account as I thought it's done manually as you are already having the email used for the registration, I thought clicking the forgotten password option to reset the password by accessing the email sent to you is the way to go back the issue. Well since the account hasn't been recovered yet, I think sending whosoever that's responsible a reminder mail is probably only what you can do and ofcourse hope that the issue is attended to.

Forgotten password will work if you forgot your password and cannot access it or if a hacker gets into your account and changes the password. But if your account is locked, maybe through trying to recover the account using 'secret question' option or if it was archived, then you'll need to request for it to be unlocked.

The problem was/is in the 2015 hack my account was taken over and the email and password changed.
Now I just have to prove who I am!

If you no longer have access to bitcoin address: 1NbyAR3YeU1efCqrdsDctZobUEDWazN4y2, and you cannot sign a message, that may turn out to be more difficult than it sounds. Especially if the email address associated with the account has been changed.

Thank you for all the help I received, I now have my old account back. Congratulations for that, so I think your problem is now solved. I think you might need to sign messages for the security of your account in the future. This can also help you to recover your account if something happens in the future. The next step, you can lock this thread because the problem is solved.
