Get a friend to buy from a bitcoin ATM for you and pay him back by cheque.

I think it would be useful if somebody posts a link to an updated map of ATMs. Ideally also with the ones that are to be installed (at least a list of cities) in the near future.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I would trust only Coinbase and Bitstamp.
And what about localbitcoins?

Agree, it is the most safest and the best option most especially when buying big amount of bitcoins to a trusted seller near your area.

There are tons of ways how you can buy bitcoin. I mostly buy mine at BTC-e, but I multiply it by playing in a bitcoin casino and faucet websites. Just a friendly reminder, always be careful when buying BTC because there are scammers everywhere especially if you are buying from unknown individual BTC seller.

We sell physical coins and cards for collectors. Our cards are popular as they are 'offline' and can't be hacked or frozen like mtgox. We were listed on Casascius website before he paused production but we have a good selection. Our site is www.SimplyBTC.co.uk and one of the few UK sites selling physical coins.

i am new to bitcoin.

may i know where do you normally buy bitcoin ?  Smiley

You should avoid untrusted websites and sellers.
I got scammed for a couple of btc Sad

The easiest way is localbitcoins or a safe exchange (like bitstamp).

yup. bitstamp is the way to go. it is not only safe, but it is also one of the largest ripple gateways out there.

i think ripple might interest some of you, it's more than just a 'coin', it's a complete payment system with an exchange built in.  you can trade both fiat currency and cryptos in ripple.

anyway, to learn more about it, read here:  http://coinjoint.info/ripple-might-want-pay-attention/ and there are intros and guides here:  https://xrptalk.org/forum/61-faq-and-guides/

When I bought BTCs in 2013 January, I used localbitcoins.com. But paid a 20% premium.

VirWox, I only buy them when I want to buy steam wallet codes because adding a new prepaid credit card to steam locks me out of the market for a week.

I'm paying close to $40 CAD for $20 worth of BTC but I don't mind.  Roll Eyes
(4$ prepaid card activation fee, paypal fee, virwox fee cad -> usd -> sll -> BTC rates)

Only problem with VirWox is that they occasionally make me wait up to 48 hours for my btc, still better than waiting a week for Steam.
