I feel like it's more of a short-term trend than a long enough process to see fluctuations. Ask people who have invested for over 5 years if they've ever seen their investment decrease by 90% but still keep it then receive a large profit. Not everyone has the same opinion, as well as approaches to investing, so take every story as a lesson to look back at what your own investment is getting, it's not necessary to always say in terms of monetary profit, but also things like knowledge accumulated and applied back to that field.

I also made a mistake involving BCH, but mine was straight up stupid.
For some reason I sent btc to a bch address, and they were never seen again.

In the very beginning for me, like 10 years ago, I also made mistakes like not writing down and saving the seed phrase. I was super new and had no clue about it. I had 2 phones from 2013-2015 die on me with some btc on it. These btc would now be quite some money and these funds are lost forever on some address, just to never be touched again.

Totally agree, that bolded part is definitely going to happen and in my opinion, it's going to be the end for bitcoin right before it begins because with a lot of people knowing the future, they would immediately increase the price of bitcoin because as soon as there's some bitcoin that's freshly mined, they'll immediately buy it and will end up with no one trying to sell out or bitcoin being too expensive because people knows that it's going to be more valuable someday. I've been the same and the fact that we're still here investing in bitcoin and moving forward means that there's nothing wrong with what we're doing and that there's going to be more opportunities to learn and do something different. I did sold my bitcoin too but at a much higher bitcoin price back then.

During my early days in the crypto industry, I had upto $158 in my wallet balance, I was told to buy only Bitcoin by the guy mentoring me, which I agreed to it, a few days later, a friend of mine told me that their is not much profit from Bitcoin, so he suggested a coin to me called Gft, I ignored the advice of my mentor and go with that of my friends.

I bought that gft at a price of $0.1100 with all my usdt, it was not even up to a week, when the price of that token fell to $0.6000, and my capital of $158 was not even up to $80 again, after upto 7 weeks, it was still coming down, I just have to cut my lost, and sold all the coin at $74, right now that coin is trading at $0.0230, after then, I learn my lesson the hard way, I never told the guy mentoring me, because I know that he would be really mad at me,  since then, I stay off any coin that is not Bitcoin.

There has been lot of such instances which I regret right from selling BTC when it was roughly $1000 at the beginning of 2017 and then boom the price reached $20K the same year in December, one more incident which I have repeatedly mentioned in the forum wherein I lost my seed phrase for Blockchain wallet without giving much important considering the price of Bitcoin that time and now I cannot recover it. Also I had converted some of my funds from Bitcoin to a shit coin named Nebilo and lost almost everything and it was not even 10% worth the amount I had invested. These are few of the blunders I have made.

I would say a grave mistake I had done in the past  is not believing in bitcoin and not investing in it right even before the last halving took place

I made many mistakes, so I decided to forget them. I don't want to remember it because it will make me regret it. Exchanging Bitcoin to buy a new coin expected to rise high is the mistake we most often experience. And it has happened so often that we still do it, perhaps even now.

I don't have a lot to say here but you did the right thing by taking risks, what you did wrong was going all in, imagine if you did this on Ethereum, will you be complaining today? As for those who have interest in alternative coins I always tell them to diversify their portfolio, because if one or two goes wrong you will be fine if one did very well.

Bitcoin is still the best bet but believe that, newer opportunities will always come, we can't always stick with Bitcoin, the opportunity keeps shrinking every year and it keeps getting harder to mine.

Also, bear market always get boring, even the most prepared will start doubting their moves at a point, I am in no shape to feel like this anymore as I have gone pass this already, you need a lot of patience in crypto investment.

I consider it an experience because to be honest there are a number of people who are not in a good condition at the start of investing or trading in bitcoin. People's habits will differ from one case to another, such as you selling Bitcoin and choosing the alternative of buying BTCV and in the end you regret that what you did in the past was not right. In contrast to me, I didn't have a good analysis of Bitcoin's journey in the market, so when the price of Bitcoin fell, I panicked and sold Bitcoin below the purchase price. That experience is still a long memory for me when I first got to know Bitcoin and because of my carelessness and lack of knowledge I allowed losses to come my way.

There are many stories for everyone's initial introduction to bitcoin and there are probably many people who were quite unlucky at the beginning of their purchase. There are even people who bought bitcoin when the price was cheap and now they have gained quite a large investment value when selling bitcoin on the way to ATH. It's just a matter of luck with early involvement at the knowledge stage and both have different sides to the story for people.

2018 and especially 2019 were the period when people lost hope on Bitcoin as it was an extended bull run and altcoin bloodbath, Bitcoin was under $5k in 2019, I remember so many people selling it off and whales silently buying it and accumulating it. Even now people made same mistakes until recently they sold Bitcoin for under $20k only to regret it now, I think I have learned a good lesson I have started accumulating Bitcoins through DCA and don't withdraw any funds unless it's for emergency purpose and people should learn from previous mistake instead of falling for fuds and panic selling or selling for huge loss.

My story that I really regret not holding Bitcoin or trying to understand it well, knowing that my first bitcoin use and transaction was on 2015 and I remember the price was around 400$, the best and only place to buy Bitcoin those time was LocalBitcoins.

You can not know Bitcoin price bottom and can not know what is best entry for your investment. Because of this fact, you must never all in Bitcoin with your money.

Apply DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) for your entry and you will not feel bad like with all in investment at only one entry price. With DCA, you can buy low, lower or high, higher but with many entry prices, you will have an average entry price for your investment, that can help you to get rid of need to find market bottom.

Your biggest mistake is not selling your Bitcoin not even choosing Bitcoin Vault instead of the original Bitcoin, your biggest mistake is you put all of your money in one basket. I think there has been so many thread and post that writes and explain why diversification of investment asset is very important and vital, crypto included. You can sell your Bitcoin and you may buy Bitcoin Vault, but you shouldn't put all of your money all at once in those coin, or any other coin.

I am sorry for your bad decisions, cashing out all your bitcoin but saving shitcoins. It is your painful lesson but I believe mistakes you made are very common with newbies in cryptocurrency market. Because they easily and quickly think Bitcoin is expensive, then decide to buy altcoins, shitcoins and feel better because they own more number of those coins. Hope to get rich with shitcoins and end with valueless shitcoins in their wallets or accounts but have nothing to sell it when those coins are abandoned by developers and delisted by centralized exchanges.

Back then I heard about Bitcoin but never know what it really was, but later I understood what it was I bought many altcoins and also sold some. I was unable to buy Bitcoin then because I thought it was too expensive that no matter the amount I buy I will never make profit because I didn't start early. I'm pretty sure that at some point we all exchanged bitcoin for some shitty altcoin, I did, and sometimes it wet well because it went up in price more than bitcoin and many other times it didn't go that well, meaning that keeping my funds in bitcoin would have been a better choice. But that is the only way to learn, making mistakes, losing money, it's part of the process and it makes you understand what to do and what not to do.

It's always the big mistake that I've done and that's through selling too early my positions even before the bull run. Yes, this is normal, especially since at that time in 2014 he was still not married and tended to prefer to waste money on momentary pleasure. Besides that, I'm new to Bitcoin because I get paid using Bitcoin. I don't really understand, and there is a friend who also knows and trades. I was tempted and traded on Bittrex and several other exchanges. Yes, I thought I could double my Bitcoin by buying altcoins, but instead the Bitcoin I had was slowly decreasing due to my lack of accuracy in buying altcoins. Try saving it in Dogecoin or Litecoin or even Bitcoin itself. These are because you lack the knowledge of investing in bitcoin investment and you don't have the mind to take the risk involved in a bitcoin investment. That is why you did that. However, I will also blame your mentor for advising you to invest. He could have taught you how to invest, and he should assure you that your investment will take a long period of time before you get a profit. If he did that, you wouldn't sell your bitcoin and invest in a project that isn't worth investing in. However, I can say that you just waste your money by investing in it because I know you won't get anything from it. If you followed your mentor's advice, you would have made it in bitcoin right now.

And it’s good that you realise your mistake now, although it is still never too late to invest. Just because you missed the early opportunity of bitcoin, you can still invest now that you already know the risk, longevity of bitcoin investment, and other necessary things you are supposed to know before you invest in bitcoin because it is not easy to invest in bitcoin. That's some crazy shit mistakes, well atleast you have learnt and took it as a positive energy and I know you wouldn't make such mistake again. For my own experience, I have really gotten such messed mistake maybe that's because I didn't encounter the crypto world quite early but the one I would classify as a mistake would be me selling off my little BTC earnings from the start as of that the price was low and the figure was big , if I had left if till now I know that the earning would be x3 now.

It was with the previous bullrun; I overlooked price increase before which pushed me to just be too confident and just be firm holding my Bitcoin holdings even if a price correction already happened. I've learned that the market price no matter how high the demand is, will still be prone to changes caused by general factors. In my circle they call me 'diamond hands' for not selling easily. It is indeed the right thing to do in some instances however, if you want to maximize the profit then respect price ceiling and volume in price charts. I thought meme coins could actually bring the best profits in the crypto market so I never hesitate to make a big purchase and look where I end up, I end up losing and regretting.

That's a very sad story for yourself because you have made the wrong step by giving up Bitcoin for altcoins whose potential or future is very unclear. If you say for the past three years, that means you are currently in a period of very good market conditions and not at all bad because three years ago was in 2021 which in general the price of Bitcoin is experiencing a very large and quite increase. good for everyone. At the same time, I wonder if you've chosen an alternative BTCV and I've never even heard about it honestly. At the same time there were many other alternatives if you are not a hard Bitcoiner you could have chosen nay of the alternative to out perform the returns easily.

Anyway, it was up to you, and considering the current market momentum with the 3 years seems like situations are different we are not actively checking-out that the entire market sentiments are highly bullish and that a win-win situation just needs a little patience. It's actually great if the op sold after BTCV lost just 30% of the price because I see that it went way-way down pretty fast and now has virtually no trading volume and a price of something very close to zero. I've always been suspicious of BTC clones, so I didn't invest in those and often didn't even bother to claim when via airdrop when that option was available on some platforms. But in 2017, I decided to keep hodling when the price was $15k+, mainly because I thought it would continue to rise and because I didn't want to spend a lot on transaction fees. But then the bear market lasted for so long that I ended up selling by coins, just at a much lower price. I would guess that most people have made mistakes when it comes to bitcoin, whether they bought years after they first heard about bitcoin, they bought too little, invested in shitcoins or were scammed, I would guess that almost everyone has a story of some past mistakes they have made, however what matters is what they did after it so this will never happen to them again, and I think this is where we are seeing many people failing, because it is very common to see newbies making mistakes and then complain about making the same mistake a few months later.

Well, that seems right putting all our eggs in one basket is dangerous but I don't think it was good to share with shitcoins. In this situation, I've preferred to put all in Bitcoin than consider investing worthless coins.

Bored? Lol, indeed it doesn't make sense and it was funny. I think it's clear that these people just jump in the bandwagon. No one briefed them about BTC and most especially their selves didn't do it too by doing a simple research. It won't be that crazy if they only sell their BTC for fiat but they swap it or use the money to other coins which are considered as shit and a scam.

The mistakes that i have done in the past is this;

1. Actively selling out or converting my Bitcoins into fiat - 2017-2020 years in between.
2. Actively using up on buying some stuffs online using bitcoin as long ii could be able to see that there's a bitcoin option payment.
3. Converting out my Bitcoin just to invest with some shit coins in the market.

On the time that Bitcoin did hit up those bull run event and reached out on $69k then this is where huge regret did really happen.
I have been keeping on telling into myself that what if, i do able to help up those coins until now? For sure i would really be that rich but well
there are things which arent really that meant for us.

You are making me remember of my friend that has the same reason for disposing and selling his bitcoin. The reason doesn't make sense. He has got bored as well and that led him to sell.

Yes, because of my past experience, I have become interested in learning about cryptocurrency. I do not want to repeat the same mistake I made before. From that experience, I learned the dos and don'ts of investment, which made me more patient and better able to avoid or control FOMO.

For example:

1) In the dotcom bubble around 2000 plenty of IT stocks went sky high and then within a year they were worth pennies and never recovered.

After this kind of experience you are very tempted to realize profits with Bitcoin too early , than waiting too long....

2) If you use money you save yourself for an investment, you are always worried to lose it and watch every move of the market with a lot of concern.

If you made already a healthy profit from earlier investments, and invest some of the profits for example in Bitcoin, then things get more relaxed, because your own capital is not at risk....

I would say a good course of action is if you have made already a healthy profit to sell and get your original investment back, and then let the rest untouched for longer.
In case the longterm investment goes bad, at least you still have you original capital for the next try....

Bitcoin Journey Nothing has happened to me in my long or short Bitcoin journey that I regret. There are many incidents that may have happened in many people's lives and mentioned by many. For those who have a lot going on with Bitcoin in their lives, it's best to ignore those events and reframe the dream. Falling in love with my Bitcoins.
That doesn't mean I got literally in love with Bitcoins. What I mean is that I held them so much that I forgot to take profit when needed.

Investing is all about entering and exiting at the best time possible, and I forgot exiting in 2021 when the market is at it's highest. Instead of selling all of my tokens including Bitcoin, I chose to just watch the market and hold all of it. A few months later, the market started to go downwards. I immediately regretted my decision because if only I sold all of my holdings, I might've used some of it to buy some things or pay at least and keep a huge portion of it to re-invest when the bear market started which eventually started a year after.

Making the mistake once is still ok, but doing it twice then there's a problem with you. That's how I think that's why when the bull run starts, I will immediately sell all of my holdings and might keep some for the long-term (maybe around 0.001 BTC ). All of us make wrong moves when it comes to Bitcoin, and investment in general. What matters most is that, we learn from all of it.

I won't advise someone who doesn't doesn't have the basic understanding of Bitcoin to buy Bitcoin, no matter how bullish it might be at the moment, but if you have the understanding of it, I mean what it really is, then you can go ahead and buy if you want to and if you have the means to.

This mistake was made by many bitcoin investors and the today's price is a one kind of reminder. Regret is very common situation for them. A friend of mine sold his bitcoin a few months ago when it dropped below 27k and prepared to buy further dip but he waited as the price of bitcoin went up and he now regrets it. It’s never too late to start buying a little at a time. There’s no point in buying a large sum right away if you’re new to this industry.buy once a week for a small amount if your extra finances allow you to do so. Pay attention to the price for the last few months. Imagine if you If you bought it in portions, then your savings would have increased in price, here’s a simple example. The main thing is to start doing it and the result will not come right away, you need to be patient and slowly increase your capital and the result will please you in half a year or a year.

Sorry about your loss, but still, if you didn't risk at all, you may not be able to gain. But this is just due to your wrong choice of investment, you may be happier with other alternatives. Although you didn't explain it well to let us know the time you made the investment, whether or not it was during the mini-bull run season or the last major bullish or bearish season. Either way, you have learned in a way, and even if you would invest in altcoins, you should not be emboldened to the extent of investing all your money in just one, the risk is too much. Unless you are so lucky, it's either it will not move up so much or you will lose some of your investment money.

But as it is now, there is still hope. You may try as much as possible to wait for it to reverse in your favour. It could still dust off the 30% loss, and you might gain back your money with ease. Actually, your mistake was not buying a shitcoin at some certain period in time, but rather buying a shitcoin at all! People tend to make up all kinds of excuses for not buying Bitcoin: it's too long to wait for gains (I want here and now), you need to invest too much to get some nice returns (altcoins are cheap I can buy tons). I agree that it's never too late to start but I don't really agree that buying big is pointless.
Buying in DCA is still very much a wlrth it in terms of investment but that doesn't mean we shouldn't buy in large quantities because as long as we can cover the purchases made why not because it's even better if we buy in large quantities if we can afford it.

All have different finances and in this case it depends on the economic readiness we have if we want to invest because after all not everyone who is new to bitcoin has problems in the economy. As long as the large purchases made can be consistent then it will be very much better but if it is burdensome then do as much as you can.

Back then I moved around 2-3% of my total BTC stack to BCH just for the "what if" factor despite knowing that it would most likely end up failing. It was the first BTC hard fork that had a somewhat-decent amount of community support and I felt uneasy having zero exposure; knowing also that Jihan Wu and Roger Ver had a lot more influence back then.

I managed to get on Coinbase during the first 5 minutes after they added BCH, before they shut down trading for a few days or whatever. Just pure luck that I signed on during that handful of minutes. Sold my BCH that I still had from the fork at $4500 a piece, made over $26k out of thin air on that haha. Though if I had waited like 30-60 seconds I could have sold it at $8000 - $9000 where it peaked during those few minutes. It was wild watching it jump around in increments of $500 and double from my sell point in less than a minute haha. But like two minutes after I sold trading was shut down and when they brought it back online a few days later the price was down to the normal market price of like $3k. So I can proudly say I have one of the highest BCH sell orders of all time! I sure took advantage of that useless token haha

We always have urgent needs, emergencies in our life so if we don't have reserved money for such situation, and use all money to buy, invest in Bitcoin, I am quite sure that we will have to sell our bitcoins for urgent needs.

To avoid unwanted Bitcoin sale, we have to reserve part of our money for urgent needs, emergencies. Like 10% of our capital must be reserved for emergencies or bigger like 20% to 30%.

During my early days in the crypto industry, I had upto $158 in my wallet balance, I was told to buy only Bitcoin by the guy mentoring me, which I agreed to it, a few days later, a friend of mine told me that their is not much profit from Bitcoin, so he suggested a coin to me called Gft, I ignored the advice of my mentor and go with that of my friends.

Yes I have one of those stories involving bitcoin. It's actually my worst investment mistake I have made so far and every time the Bitcoin price jumps up 5-10% I keep thinking about it. Back in 2016 I first learned about bitcoin through my CSGO skin trading adventures. I was buying and selling quite a few skins on a regular basis and needed a way to quickly and cheaply cash out my money. From the online skin exchange I learned that bitcoin was the option to withdraw money with lowest amount of fees. My big mistake was that I quickly exchanged the bitcoin back to fiat. If I only had kept some coins back then, I would be in a completely different position today. Unfortunately we can't turn back time and the only thing to do is learn from our mistakes and to make sure but to repeat them. Which is now one important rule for all my future investing, to never sell all bitcoins again. It's fine to take profit with 10 or 20% of my holdings, but the majority I am going to keep.

OP, though no one is above making mistake but some mistakes would have been avoidable if you understand crypto investment, must coin are created for just test running to see if it will fit in the market and unfortunately if their is no influx of investor due to it's lack of durability, you see the coin die a natural death, I am not a fan of alternative coins and if am to advise anyone I will say that Bitcoin is the best because of its trust and multiple purposes and so on, though in investment diversification is not inevitable or a bad but if this must be done, precautionary measures should be in place so that actions will not be regretted.

Not that I made a big mistake but only selling big chunks of my Funds back in pandemic , but actually it is not  about considering a total mistakes because I need money to feed my family .

But aside from that? never that I discard my crypto assets for anything  specially in gambling or other spending .

It may sound odd, but I have heard that reason to stop holding or trading an asset many times on the past, and this show us those people have no clue about what they are doing, the main goal we must have when investing is to multiply our capital, being boring should not be a factor at all and if anything that should be a plus, since if you can buy an asset and a few years later sell it for a price much higher than its purchase price then that is great, as you can make money without exerting too much effort.

Hold will basically be just like that, but I would choose another word, I think boring is a little wrong. Because I can see the balance of my portfolio and see how it is growing, it’s not boring, it inspires me, I understand that I’m doing everything right and all I need to achieve a good result is just waiting for the goals. I would say a grave mistake I had done in the past  is not believing in bitcoin and not investing in it right even before the last halving took place

I believe, you know BTC now and if you encounter any opportunity again when the market price drop down, you will use the opportunity well by investing huge amount of money in BTC and hodl them in your wallet until you are convince there is a real bull run before you can sell to take profits from the market.

Yes I have one of those stories involving bitcoin. It's actually my worst investment mistake I have made so far and every time the Bitcoin price jumps up 5-10% I keep thinking about it. Back in 2016 I first learned about bitcoin through my CSGO skin trading adventures. I was buying and selling quite a few skins on a regular basis and needed a way to quickly and cheaply cash out my money. From the online skin exchange I learned that bitcoin was the option to withdraw money with lowest amount of fees. My big mistake was that I quickly exchanged the bitcoin back to fiat. If I only had kept some coins back then, I would be in a completely different position today. Unfortunately we can't turn back time and the only thing to do is learn from our mistakes and to make sure but to repeat them. Which is now one important rule for all my future investing, to never sell all bitcoins again. It's fine to take profit with 10 or 20% of my holdings, but the majority I am going to keep.

There are a lot of such stories, I once made a very big mistake when I decided that the altseason would allow me to increase the number of my bitcoins, but I was greedy and had too little experience to then understand what mistake I was making. In the end, I lost almost everything because I didn’t sell altcoins on time, although initially the plan was good and I did everything right, I just didn’t sell when I needed to.

And then I started hold altcoins and it’s clear what happened. Now I only have bitcoin in my portfolio and I have no desire to increase its amounts during the altseason, I’m glad what I have and don’t want to allow a situation in which I might regret selling my bitcoins in the future.

Reading the mistakes of others and it's best everyone learnt from their previous mistakes and coming back to invest in bitcoin is a good choice. I have never taken any wrong move with my investment and I don't think I will leave bitcoin investment for any reason or aspect of financial crisis. The only thing I'm regretting is I wished I knew about bitcoin earlier, I might have heard about bitcoin but I never took it so serious and I'm actually regretting but what's best now is I have started my journey and it's not too late to invest now.

When we have been able to learn from the mistakes that other people have made and that we have made, then we have to be even more careful so as not to repeat the same mistakes when we try again. If you can choose the right steps in investing, of course this will be very good and The assets you have will clearly continue to increase if you can do it correctly.

I have also felt like you feel, when someone tells me about Bitcoin, I just ignore it and don't listen well first and immediately decide not to listen and now I only see those who already knew that they already have a lot of assets and now I only realized when they saw the results they had gotten now.

In my experience at the time of 2017, I did not experience converting my BTC to other altcoins. Because at the time of the bull run of that year, there were times that in one day I was growing around 200$ something because the price value of Bitcoin was rallying at that time.

Made mistakes with your Bitcoin in the past...that you still regret or at least considered to be a wrong move especially considering the price of BTC these days? Three years ago, I got bored with the movement of Bitcoin so I look for other good alternatives which I can use to replace...unfortunately I decided to go for BTCV all in. And it was a big horror because two months after the price of BTCV dropped to just 30% to when I bought them...got no choice but to cut loss.

I was being lured to invest in shitcoins using my Bitcoin saying that it will grow much higher in a week but after a week the project is scam and we are victims  

Anyway I have no regrets because it is my choice and we lose together so thats fine.
