Privacy? Nah f*ck it because I've been telling to other people outside of my family that I'm invested into Bitcoin for years, but nothing bad is happening to me. I just hope that it will continue to be that way.

I mean congratulations on being a father, and I hope that you will be ready to teach your kid with regards to Bitcoin because as he grows up, many people will ask as to why he has that kind of nickname. Prepare your son for the future because there will be many people that will ask him anything that's regarding to Bitcoin. There's nothing wrong about your kid being nicknamed like that, and TBH, I don't know what will be the effects of having a nickname like that. I mean it could be beneficial or harmful depending on the environment.

Nevertheless, just prepare your kid, and when the time comes that I will have a kid, I will name him "Craig". Sounds familiar right? Tongue Of course I'm just kidding. As for you OP, give him some Bitcoin as well. Cheesy

I don't think it's a good idea to name a child Bitcoin. In some countries this may lead to ridicule from friends and acquaintances and the child may suffer as a result. I have heard stories that in the countries of Central Asia it was customary for some children to give the names of the object that the giving birth woman would see first after giving birth. Let’s say a woman, after giving birth, went out into the yard and saw a bucket. Then the child will be called a bucket. But this practice existed in remote villages; now, most likely, this practice is being abandoned.
I would also understand if the child was called some poetic words. For example, a girl can be named after the names of flowers. Rose, Lily, Chrysanthemum and so on. The boy could be called sword, Valor, Courage and the like.
But the name Bitcoin sounds kind of stupid. With the same effect, you could call the boy a microchip, a fan, a hard drive or a distributed ledger).

So basically your relatives started calling your child with the nickname Bitcoin? I don't think that this nickname will get outside of your family, unless your relatives start spreading it everywhere(which is weird). My relatives never gave me a nickname, when I was young.
Do you really think that his schoolmates will call him Bitcoin when he grows up? I don't think that this nickname is going to stick to your son for several years. Spreading the word about Bitcoin among family and relatives can be a double edged sword. They might blame you for getting scammed by a BTC scam or buying right before the price drops. That's why I would never say anything to my family about my Bitcoin journey.

Won't that make other people think your family is into Bitcoin and probably has a lot of Bitcoin. It can attract bad intentions from other people since why would people call your son Bitcoin if there's no relation at all? It's somehow feels like publicly disclosing that your family or anyone from your family have Bitcoin which can endanger your security.
Although calling someone Bitcoin may sounds cool, your son will probably need to answer questions growing up like why is your nickname bitcoin and what is Bitcoin. It may be complicated for kids to understand and explain it as well. Even if your relatives are the only one calling your child Bitcoin, if it continues as he grows up, everyone will start doing the same as well. Based on my own experience, I've got a nickname that is way too far from my real name and it started within the family but now everyone calls me that, even at work.

It is a completely strange phenomenon. While this is good to hear for Bitcoin users, it will also interest those who don't know anything about Bitcoin, but it will destroy your privacy and you may face a lot of trouble if Bitcoin is not legal in your country. On the other hand you will advertise that you are holding bitcoins which can cause you problems so always try to maintain your privacy. So now you should do what people around you will forget about this and stop making such comments

Instead of viewing the constant questions as a burden, consider framing them as opportunities to spread awareness and educate others. Your son's name serves as a conversation starter, and your willingness to engage could ignite a spark of curiosity in someone who might not otherwise have explored Bitcoin.

Think of it like planting a seed. Each explanation you offer, each question you answer, becomes a little seed of understanding that has the potential to blossom into knowledge and adoption. You never know, your son's unique name might become a local legend, synonymous with Bitcoin education and sparking a wave of financial empowerment in your community.

Remember, patience and clarity are key when explaining technical concepts. Tailor your explanations to your audience's level of understanding, and don't be afraid to use analogies or real-world examples to make things relatable. By fostering open-mindedness and respectful dialogue, you can transform your son's name into a powerful tool for Bitcoin education and community growth.

And at first I felt uncomfortable because my child had a beautiful name, but over time I got used to it and if my child was called Bitcoin he would definitely respond more because he was used to it. And I'm worried that my child will be called Bitcoin when he grows up, and I also feel uncomfortable if there are questions about Bitcoin because I'm afraid of answering it wrong.
That's because you yourself are overexposing Bitcoin in a way that may not be common for some people. There is no problem if you go into detail about Bitcoin but because here you are involving the child it is uncomfortable and whether it is all because of your own actions or maybe you want to get recognition from other people regarding your Bitcoin ownership. However it is quite dangerous and it is not recommended to expose what you have. I know that Bitcoin is not very popular in your area but still by digging up information easily, it doesn't rule out the possibility that people will be curious about Bitcoin. I'm just worried about your child because the name will become a characteristic that you carry with you wherever you go. Therefore reduce exposing yourself to your Bitcoin holdings. I was like that from the time my child was in the womb until birth, funded from Bitcoin proceeds, but I don't think the process needs to be explained to other people, unless you are used to wanting special recognition from other people.

You don't have to worry on that but should instead be happy and proud because your child has now become a living advertisement for Bitcoin. Certainly, many people would be curious to know why he is nicknamed as such and the story behind it. I am sad, however, that it seems to me it is hard to do cryptocurrency business in your own country. This is actually my first time to hear a story on this nature and you should be proud to be the first one in this forum. Now, am planning to get a dog and named it Bitcoin so my pet will officially be a cryptocurrency.
Already, this is a bitcoin era;we're living in a bitcoin era where at least 40% persons have heard or can say something reasonable about bitcoin. You can only make it seem easier for them by teaching and introducing more of bitcoin pros and cons to them so they don't bear the name without knowledge. There will be a time when he will be asked questions like what is bitcoin?why are called bitcoin? Are there Anny special events attached to that name?and so on.
There possibly could be a reason why you named him that and as people are inquisitive,he will need to be able to answer to that as well.

I see 2 points coming up:

1) Your son will have to answer a hell lot of questions about the story why he is called Bitcoin, can get quite annoying quickly....
He will be loved and create awareness and sensitisation about bitcoin. Most areas are still ignorant about bitcoin.

2) On a more positive note he will get a lot of attention from girls, because Bitcoin sounds like a lot of money.....Same as your son is called "Goldchain" or so...

so you should give him a decent weekly allowance so that he can live up to expectations,,,

I don't think it is necessary to give him weekly allowance. Because if the money is not there, you can't go and steal just to represent a name.

Because of the story https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5401052.0#msg60271061, until now most people, especially my entire extended family and also people around me, call my child Bitcoin.
Actually, most of them don't really know what Bitcoin really is, especially old people and small children because in my area
Actually people that will call your child a Bitcoin is a people that does not know the full meaning of Bitcoin and the important of Bitcoin Bitcoin is a digital currency that have to do with the rising and the Fallen so it is not a name that supposed to be giving to a child or human being that is being tag through technology so most people does not know the important of Bitcoin in the society and the importance of Bitcoin Across The Nation so for my opinion it is not advisable to give a someone's child the name called Bitcoin why bitcoin is meant for exchange transaction from one place to another or from one country to another.

Bitcoin is digital currency as I said above that does not have a competition with a Fiat currency but the main functions of Bitcoin is for exchange and also for investment so it's meant for transactions both importing and the exporting of goods and services you can use a Bitcoin for those transactions so that is the major functions or objectives of Bitcoin to come into existence

OP did say most of the people in his community have never heard of the word ‘Bitcoin’ before hence their amazement. The “mistake” OP made was to tell them he paid for his child’s hospital bills with bitcoin. If he had paid with fiat or neglected to tell them how he settled the bills, it would have been nothing social and the nickname wouldn’t have come up.

This is off-topic in my opinion. How does this have any bearing whatsoever to the topic that’s being discussed?

Because of the story https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5401052.0#msg60271061, until now most people, especially my entire extended family and also people around me, call my child Bitcoin.
Actually, most of them don't really know what Bitcoin really is, especially old people and small children because in my area Bitcoin is not very popular and only certain people know about it. And with this story happening, those who know that my child's birth expenses were paid using Bitcoin, want to know more clearly and also want to know what Bitcoin actually is.
And after I told them the basics of what Bitcoin is and its benefits, they finally understood and in my conversation with them I did not suggest investing, only that Bitcoin can be used for long-term investments that are profitable from other investments. And it can be used for trading, and can also be used as a transaction tool like money. And both must have a Bitcoin address or wallet that can be done privately, because in the country where I live, Bitcoin or other crypto cannot be used as a means of transaction.
And until now when explaining Bitcoin I don't know the developments whether they are involved or not.
Actually that's not the purpose of this thread, but more aimed at my son who most people call my son Bitcoin.
Well, there's nothing you can do if people around would really be calling your child with that name. Btw, how they do able to know that you've been using up your Bitcoin on paying up those hospital or birth expenses?
Unless if there are tons of people who do know about it which these things are usually be just that on family kind of issue or situation which it shouldnt be scattered. Well, if i on your situation
then it is really that a big non comfortable because you've set a name for your child and been that called Bitcoin which i do understand your feelings but well it would really be just that depending on you
on which you could really just that ignore those people around.

Call your child on his/her name and he/she would really be responding into that. If it turns out that his nickname would be BItcoin then it wont really
be that bad name after all. You cant just blame out people around basing on what the actions that you have done.

Your family is trolling you. Also, that's not a name but more of a nickname.

If you don't want them to do so, you can either tell them that, or you can start ignoring it. Usually people who tease others expect a reaction. If there's none they get bored.

I wouldn't want my child to be named bitcoin in public and my friends know that we shouldn't be talking about it too much because some of us hold a lot of bitcoin. You don't want to draw unnecessary attention.

In fact, there is no need to worry that the rumors will disappear by themselves, where the nickname that we don't want will disappear if we firmly reject it, and you also shouldn't deliberately continue to tell everyone about your child's history, which will complicate the situation.

Yes, we don't need to care about this and it will go away by itself because if we think too much about it and make a big deal about it of course they will do things like that more and more until it has become attached to their child's name and if they don't think about it and don't care about what other people say, of course this will go away by itself and we don't need to calmly tell the details of our child to people we don't need to tell so that unwanted things don't happen.

No offense, but I don't understand the meaning of the created topic with a link to the previous topic, in which you can continue to develop the narrative further. Perhaps it's all about the "merit" left in the previous topic and looks like a desire to get them again. This is my personal opinion.

I think for security purpose it is good decision not allowing your kid to bear the name bitcoin.  Their was time I wanted to to get some cloths , and I saw a nice top and bitcoin was written on it. I really like the cloth because it was beautiful but I didn't get the cloth because if I had bought the cloth i am sure it will land me in problems . For me to avoid what will take place due to the name at the back of the cloth I lost interest in getting the cloth.

When it comes to money, it's different. They won't stop to talk about you when it's related to money, either you're a successful person or an unlucky person, they will talk about you to anyone. In order to not listen to them is avoid to met them, cut off from any interaction and move to other places.

Maybe, I guess so. But look, so far he didn't get any merit by creating this thread.
