To encourage users to store (for the sake of safety) their valuable stash on multisig wallet I'm running this merit pertaining challenge.Challenge rules:Opened for everyone, except newly created and/or negative trust accounts.- Opened solely for Senior+, except the negative-trust and alt accounts (previously merited accs are not accepted).
- Create multisig wallet of any quorum, including minimal one, i.e. 2-of-2
- Connect it to testnet.
- Send from your multisig wallet to my testnet address tb1q5pzqmfaf83xzvea0sadlcq57tmyyry9hfvd8as any number of tsat (testnet satoshes).
- Tell a little bit of your multisig wallet in this thread using the following template:
Type of multisig: Wallet's coordinator: 1st cosigner: 2nd cosigner: 3rd cosigner (if any): and so on:. - Cosigners must be relevant to the different software/hardware wallets (and machines/devices running those software).
- Cosigners must be described with an unambiguous clarity
- Publish ID of your confirmed transaction in this thread.
Example:Type of multisig: 2-of-3 Wallet's coordinator: Sparrow 1st cosigner: Passport 2 2nd cosigner: SeedSigner 3rd cosigner: Jade
After checking your transaction and assuring myself that it was sent from multisig wallet I will appraise you with 5 2 merits. Good luck to everyone! Guides which might be helpful https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5468930 and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5039220.0P.S. You can get test coins from any relevant faucet ( here the list). I retain the right to amend the rules and/or terminate this challenge at any time for any reason.

I created 2-of-2 multisig
I first signed it on my first device and I transferred the partially signed testnet bitcoin transaction to the second device after I clicked on tools and clicked on load transaction. I used QR code for it.
I signed it also on the second device and broadcast it.

I just tested these things on (Electrum) tested. I add --testnet on the target shortcut extension to put me on the (test-wallet) first time using test net option on Electrum. Multi-Signature uses (2-of-2) the transaction export and load using the (File) option. Transaction: c669f72484b0950671a08029fd9b265d6e70bb0570afd2d6c40fe08bc52f1423

This is a great initiative satscraper. I think you've found a great way to motivate people to educate themselves on this subject. I have created a minimal 2of2 multisig wallet with Electrum with the help of someone. At the end, it was quite easy the txid is: 14497922c639c0008053d28d33e84fd69d1253ef32777052959395d586b23977 https://mempool.ninja/fr/testnet/tx/14497922c639c0008053d28d33e84fd69d1253ef32777052959395d586b23977

First time trying to create a multisig wallet (2-of-2) testnet. The beginning was a bit more complicated because I didn't understand everything but I searched some articles and found the instructions. I searched for faucets and got 0.00001tBtc then I made a transaction and saved the file with signed 1/2 to load later, then opened the second wallet to sign again 2/2 and broadcast it. Now I have sent with multisig (2-of-2).

The hardest thing for me was finding out how to get the second sign (2-of-2), it turned out it was just as simple as saving a transaction file .

This is a unique experience very technical little and one needs to follow the whole procedures in creating the multisig wallet first, then connect the two wallets together, proceed to making payments to the address given, using the cosigner to confirm the partial payment and after that the transaction get confirmed.
Thanks for this innovation and little of technical use of multisig bitcoin wallet through testnet, it will help people perform it in real transaction if they can get through this.

Good Challenge satscraper!
I have seen another challenge that was run by NotATether and I want to consider his challenge thread as a successful challenge because a couple of users have tried and Run a node for at least 14 days. Challenges that help improve the Bitcoin network, and this one which will increase the level of wallet security always should be welcomed and encouraged. I support your idea but I am afraid because people may abuse your challenge thread. Here is a friendly suggestion, before you merit them, look at their merit patterns so you can understand if it's an alt account or not.
Cheers mate!

Thanks for this challenge and opportunity satscraper, this is not something difficult for me, but it is certainly useful for forum users who don't know about it. My multisig wallet experience? as i said before, there is no difficulty. it's just a journey of creating 2 different wallets, making a transaction on one of the wallets then load transaction on cosigner2 and then clicking sign.

Thanks for advice. I must confess that this subject of alt accounts is a new for me. Could you elaborate a bit more how their might be merit patterns could evidence the existence of alt account for the given one.

Nothing against you satscraper, but I would not suggest creation of multisig wallets to most people, even if it is a great security measure to protect your funds. Multisig adds additional complexity and increases the chances of losing your coins if you don't create backup correctly, and you only need to lose one backup for this to happen. Not to mention that is adds additional transaction fees as you are publishing everything on-chain. Andreas clarifies this about Multisig setup much better than me: https://youtu.be/ePx5lBSI0es

Could you elaborate a bit more how their might be merit patterns could evidence the existence of alt account for the given one. I don't think anyone would give you an example of an alt account unless it's already proven. Sometimes it's obvious who is who's alts, but we shouldn't say that without any solid evidence. But, we can easily understand if we see their merit patterns and the posting habit. We shouldn't call someone an alternative account because it will create chaos. Look at the merit pattern of this account https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=3564894 and you should understand who is who's an alt account. I suspect that this account belongs to a huge alt farm. At least eight accounts is in one hand. Unfortunately, we do not have any proof.

It's just some habits, how the circle from (Send & Receive) of their merits. Off course these sometimes cannot be taken as proved, but usually this is one of the factors as well. We gain some information from their (Wallet Activity, how posting style, etc). So, these is just one of the point factor you can take for checking (Alt-account) If you see some strange activity on their merit cycle, feel free to make some deep investigation on their account. Perhaps, you can find somethings on wallet and other for proof there has some connection between the account.

Wow, seems to be a time-consuming task to find such alts. Nothing against you satscraper, but I would not suggest creation of multisig wallets to most people, even if it is a great security measure to protect your funds. Andreas clarifies this about Multisig setup much better than me: https://youtu.be/ePx5lBSI0esDifferent people different view on this matter. In my view, all those multisig-related-fears are originated from imprinting which pertains to the practice of using singlsig wallets. Most experts agree that multisig wallets provides robust security if compare them with singlsig. Trade-off of lesser-convenience is almost negligible for frequent users of multisig wallet.

Creating (using) and being able to create multi-signature wallets are completely different things. This is a good challenge (thanks to @satscraper) that encourages people to try this method, but it doesn't oblige (force) participants to use multi-signature wallets. Those who need it will use it later, but for now it’s like a training lesson. Multisig adds additional complexity and increases the chances of losing your coins if you don't create backup correctly, and you only need to lose one backup for this to happen. Not to mention that is adds additional transaction fees as you are publishing everything on-chain.
This method is not universal (ideal) for all bitcoin users, but there will still be those who want to use multi-signature. Thanks to your comment, users will pay close attention to the correctness and safety of backups.

Trying to do more than the minimum to do, I went to 3 of 3 . Transaction: 56fbadcd43f2654ef465e297fd572623c8e657921795f09754ae93420e3202b7 Everyone, If you find it difficult to get the $TBTC, you can try from http://bitcoinfaucet.uo1.net/, because of the entire list that I tried on this forum, almost all of them didn't work except the ones I mentioned. Somehow bitaps always rejects my tbtc requests with an "undefined" error message, why?
If I understood you in correct way, one of the possible reasoning for their "undefined"-error-message could be that your transaction didn't arrive to bitaps nodes at the time you requested them. The testnet is not so rich with nodes as the mainnet and the latency in transaction propagation should matter.

Thanks brother for sharing this sites I try first time then easily I claimed faucet tokens Multisig Wallet really very interesting and fully secure method for using and saving wallet and this was my first time for using this multisig wallet and I took 2 of 2 wallet testnet. I did face some problem when I sent some testnet bitcoin then electrum wallet gave error of lower output I tried again this time I faced no problem and everything was going well. My small review:
There are many versions of electrum wallet are available in download website like Linus, window and android etc i have laptop with window then I used window version. After downloading, I converted mainnet to Testnet use of "--testnet". For multisig wallet, I used two different devices and create 2-of-2 wallet and added cosigner key in alternate account. Finally, I deposit some testnet funds and do sent transaction.

How it comes that both of you, Nalain420 and hafiztalha, have the same transaction? Are you alts or cheating me? Take into account, that I, as DT2 member, can set a negative trust to your account for the attempt of cheating. UPD. After pondering a bit on this situation I have came to conclusion that Nalain420 and hafiztalha, more likely than not, are alts of the same person who sent two different transactions (44f38ce33a833b3dc67f8a7e26643a5dcacba693f32955b15d191be0c78a6a0c and 18f9336d7dcebd728ecdca68c7a5a4b67d8557b6cd682b38eb0bd7baf1c50c4f) to my address from the same wallet but mixed their txids. Thus, as Nalain420 has been already merited (I regret of this) hafiztalha i s not eligible to this challenge any more. Excuse of copied txid I just copy transaction id of previous user Nalain420 and check on explorer for seeing that my transaction will be okay or not
is not acceptable.

It was a bit of a struggle and I had to look at the guide a few times because it was my first time sending multisig but it was very interesting and a new knowledge for me because after all it will be very useful. I think I did well for the first try but if there are any mistakes please correct me.

I love me a great Challenge and this one is worth giving a try Am familiar with multisigs on other chains but not much with bitcoin which is why I couldn't pass this experience the second I saw this challenge...and I don't expect the process to be any different either! So this was a one-man job, with 2 devices acting as user1 and user2 and because I was limited with the number of free devices, a 2-of-2 multisig was my best option using electrum Wallet as this is a popular brand based on my wild guess. And having used this wallet several times, it was a little confusing when I got on the mobile version because by default this runs on the mainnet network but after switching to the desktop version in testnet mode its straightforward & nothing complicated of course... txid: b89cf8eacc67bfc82ae3a8a0f486daa1f97f2f278bb1f523f76ec67afdbba8a2 Thanks satscraper for the challenge

It's a bit difficult to find a BTC test net balance at the moment, even the website I subscribe to is now out of stock. Finally I got the balance from tatum io, yes this is very important for our test net needs.
Thanks @satscraper to the challenges held, I think everyone has become more active in trying out some of the good features that BTC can do, including this multisig challenge. I'm sure many people will learn new things from this challenge.

It emerged that challenge has attracted plenty of folk.
During the past two days 19 ppl completed the task and got 95 merits (in sum) from me. This overrun my merit pool. I'm not a merit source, thus I have to postpone this challenge and refill my pool to go on in this thread. The small merit surplus I have is intended to be used for similar challenge on local board.
With this being said, the thread is temporally closed (presumably for a month).
It seems I have encountered the cheating attempt.
To prevent it in the future (at resuming this challenge) I have to change it's rules: from now on it is opened solely for Senior+ accounts. Presumably, the award will be lowed to 4 merits.

Challenge is opened now with a couple rules altered: Changed:- Opened solely for Senior+, except the negative-trust and alt accounts.
- Tell a little bit of your multisig wallet in this thread using the following template:
Type of multisig: Wallet's coordinator: 1st cosigner: 2nd cosigner: 3rd cosigner (if any): and so on:
- 2 merits appraisal
Example:Type of multisig: 2-of-3 Wallet's coordinator: Sparrow 1st cosigner: Passport 2 2nd cosigner: SeedSigner 3rd cosigner: Jade

Hope I have done everything correctly and also special thanks for sharing details how to perform this transaction.
I really enjoyed to make this multisig transaction. I learned a lot about how multisig works and this one is best method for secure transaction. I did not encounter any problems while doing this and just a little wait in claim bitcoin testnet faucet.
Anyways, thanks for organising this amazing challenge.

Almost correctly as you didn't explain what "myself" means. And the the second comment. The point of using multisig for storage your stash is that it eliminates the threat coming from your might be compromised keys generated by single software/hardware wallet thus cosigners must be different in a sense that they must be relevant to distinctive software/hardware wallets (and machines running those software). Your case forced me to add some alteration to the rules of this challenge. Changed:- Cosigners must be relevant to the different software/hardware wallets (and machines running those software).
- Cosigners must be described with an unambiguous clarity

Type of multisig: 2-of-2 Wallet's coordinator: Bitcoin Core V26.0 1st cosigner: Bitcoin Core Client at Machine 1 (Personal Computer with i5 processor) 2nd cosigner: Bitcoin Core Client at Machine 2 (Asus Laptop) TXID e6a17bc2c4854226f718b6f37868b9e39edd7bf58c09a0d474c44f62f7bde981If you check the transaction using https://mempool.space/testnet then you will not get the Multisig tag on the transaction as you can find in P2SH or P2WSH Multisig transactions. However, by looking at the P2TR tapscript on the transaction, you will be able to find out whether the transaction is indeed a Multisig or just the standard one. Taproot 2-of-2 Multisig Transaction will have the script <PK1> OP_CHECKSIG <PK2> OP_CHECKSIGADD OP_2 OP_NUMEQUAL Making Multisig transactions may be a new lesson for those who have never done it before but creating a Taproot Multisig transaction is a completely different experience

That is why you have got one merit more. Did you use a taproot-compatible script to build the relevant descriptor and import the latter into your Botcoin Core v 26.0? At least, I would follow this path to create taproot multisig transaction using two other keys as cosigners. If my guess is correct, wouldn't you mind to share your descriptor here , sure, in its general form?

To import Taproot Multisig Address 2-of-2 into Bitcoin Core all you need are 3 Descriptors wallet. 2 Descriptors as Cosigners 1 and Cosigners 2, while 1 other Descriptor as Internal Key. You can also use the Unspendable Key as an Internal Key (eg. 50929b74c1a04954b78b4b6035e97a5e078a5a0f28ec96d547bfee9ace803ac0 from BIP341), so for the output spending script it only depends on the script path (multisig script). If the Internal Key is spendable, then you can also create a spendable P2TR keypath using the Internal Key. If you want to get a change (multisig) address for every transaction made, then you have to import the Descriptor at both external (receive) and internal (change) path levels. Hence the checksum at external path and internal path must be obtained first through getdescriptorinfo. To get the checksum on the external path descriptor, the arguments and expressions that should be used: getdescriptorinfo "tr(XPub1/0/*,sortedmulti_a(2,XPub2/0/*,XPub3/0/*))" and for the internal path descriptor: getdescriptorinfo "tr(XPub1/1/*,sortedmulti_a(2,XPub_2/1/*,XPub3/1/*))" After the checksum of each external path descriptor and internal path descriptor is known, all that remains is to create a blank descriptor wallet with the private key disabled. Then import the taproot multisig descriptor to this blank descriptor wallet. importdescriptors '[{ "desc": "tr(XPub1/0/*,sortedmulti_a(2,XPub2/0/*,XPub3/0/*))#checksum", "active": true, "timestamp": "now", "internal": false },{ "desc": "tr(XPub1/1/*,sortedmulti_a(2,XPub_2/1/*,XPub3/1/*))#checksum", "active": true, "timestamp": "now", "internal": true }]' Lastly, all you have to do is create a new taproot multisig address: getnewaddress "label" "bech32m"
