How long do ya think this coin will be good to mine with CPU?  Is it normal to see nothing after 2 hours of solo mining with 3600 hashespersecond?

This is not what I am expecting, although the total network hashing is a bit "high", but you should get something after mining 2 hours. The reason could be CPU solo mining not working well at this moment. Let me update so that you can do CPU pool mining (will not affect your GPU mining).

Cool, will keep an eye for the update.  Still nothing after 4 hours or more.  Also crashed my CGMiner as I have experienced before trying to mine with CPU:-(

It took me around 2 hours to solo 2 blocks with two GPU's so I'd assume CPU mining will take a while

yeah, I had to quit.......don't want my CGminer crashing.  I had been mining around 6 hours though I would guess.

I updated the thread to include CPU pool mining. I always do CPU and GPU co-mining, and they do well, no crashing. I did Xubuntu and Win 8 too.

What is your system? Be sure that not use all CPU threads for mining. For example, if you have 8-core CPU, use 6 even 4 threads so that the remaining will be used by GPU.

The advantage is that you can add CPU mining to your GPU mining, using the same pool, same worker (well, not big deal of CPU hashing). You can use this approach for any Scrypt coins. See update for details.

Soon later I will update GPU solo mining (not pool). In some occasion, GPU solo has the advantages, I guess?

Magicians,

Mining with the wallet goes A-OK and I see difficulty rising already so I guess more miners are joing the Happy Magic Hours.

Cheers!

(I am gonna open another bottle  Tongue )

Still not high, getting 40M hashing something, then now ~20M. Added CPU pool mining if interested.

Happy magic hours  Wink

Thanks man, I got the CPU mining working as your update suggested.  Am running first with 6 of the 8 cores along with CGminer.  We'll see if she crashes this way.

Thanks again for the tips:-)

Some fresh mining feedback for the Magicians;

- after cpu mining with 6 cores for 9 hours, the getbalance command in the wallet still shows 0. I think cpu mining needs to be fixed a bit? For now I shut it down...

- mining through the pool at 800 Khs for 12 hours results in a balance of 78 MGC while difficulty is only 0.55808666 . I wonder if this is the way it should be? With other coins having a 10 times higher difficulty it resulted in 100 coins an hour. Having only 78 MGC in 12 hours surprises me  Huh

Cheers

yeah, not sure this CPU mining is worth it.....over an hour and I have .7 coins.  Seems silly to continue to heat up my hardware for this:-(

Right now CPU pool mining compared to solo will do the better job.

MGC gradually increases with time, linear in the first 7 days and then exponentially in the second 7 days. So much more will be mined then. To experiment, you can open a pool account/worker for CPU alone, and see if you get coins increase over time.

I agree. Let me do experiment on my i7, will record & post a figure to show gain vs time dynamically.

sorry, I do not understand how CPU mining can lead to better results;

Now I am testing 6 cores with cpuminer working for the mgc.charityminingpools.com pool. Those 6 cores result in 55,25 kh/s

With my GPU cgminer was running at 800 kh/s and after approx 12 hours that GPU mining resulted in 74 MGC.
This result of 74 MGC is surprisingly low given the low difficulty of MGC. I do not understand how come?

Cheers

As a fact, with diff/hash increasing and taking into account power consumption, CPU will be not efficient any more. CPU will be more fit for CPU only coins. I only use CPU mining to add additional hashing (nearly 0.2Mh/s total) to my GPU. I do have a fixed power bill per month, so not worrying about power.

I did a calculation of my rig (~3.2Mh/s; GPU). I am getting 520 MGC after 18 hours mining, so roughly same as yours. I will expect this result is not "normal" (well, normal mining  Smiley), as coins gets increased over time. I will post a figure showing my rig earning as a function of time, check back a few days later see how mining comes out.

CharityMiningPools - Donate to Charity while you Mine!

mgc.charityminingpools.com

Mandatory 0.5% donation fee goes to the BitGive Foundation this month.  We welcome and encourage you to donate more to a good cause.

SSL, STRATUM, VARDIFF, Datacenter Redundant Server Farm, Load Balanced Servers, Frequent Backups, DDOS Protection
0.5% Mandatory Donation fee to a Good Cause, 0.5% Pool Fees

Who Are We?
CharityMiningPools was created to allow miners the ability to mine coins while still knowing that their hashing power is going towards something good.  Our goal is to provide a positive and reliable service while delivering a small portion of the proceeds to a deserving recipient.  Plans are in the works to allow individual miners to choose where they would like to donate to based on a pool of available recipients.

How Does This Work?
All coins minded at CharityMiningPools will require a mandatory 0.5% Donation fee.  This donation fee will be collected and donated to the designated charitable recipient for that given month.  Though we only require a minimum 0.5% Donation fee, we welcome and encourage our miners to raise the stakes and donate more to a good cause.

Cheers!
