Your example is valid because you had some bias/or a favorite choice between those teams from the beginning and that favoritism made you hope for your favorite team to win, regardless where you money was.
That is rather a uncommon scenario, in other occasions I have seen people to lose money because their favorite team performs better  than expected, what follows next is a stream of regrets and sadness, for nor having enough division and loyalty to such a team from the let go. Yes, losing money is very disappointing if you're a gambler and I know that because I've experience it myself, but there are some gamblers who don't care about losing money as long as they're being entertained by it. I know that most are gambling for the sake of money and they prioritize winning rather than getting entertained and that's the reason why there are some gamblers who are getting addicted to it. At the end of the day, it's how they approach gambling that matters. If they're happy while gambling and they don't care about losing money then that's good. I remember the time back then when I'm betting on a sports game (basketball playoffs), and my favorite team is playing, but for some unknown reasons, I put my bet on the oppossing team. To cut it short, my favorite team won and despite losing money because of the wrong bet, I'm just happy that my team clinched into the playoffs.

Mindset, mindset, mindset. Your mindset when you gamble matters. If you're in it for profits, just find another way to use your money. If you're in it for fun, don't think too much about losing money.

But I always look at the other side of the coin which means there are gambler who are not aiming for that purpose. They play to relieve their stress,  sfter the pandemic hits, many jobs are lost and they are looking for a place to let it go.
For me,. the pandemic changed a lot of us and gamblers who realized there's another option to gamble without even getting out of the home. I mean its easer to do everyhifn win front of a computer with some knowledge but the physical energy could go less.

You are looking at gambling from an incorrect point of view, you are only thinking about the profits and nothing more, and while there are gamblers like that without a doubt, most people look at gambling as a form of entertainment for which they are willing to pay some money, think about a restaurant, what is the point of anyone going there when you can cook the same food for a fraction of the cost? Due to the reason you pointed above, I strongly believe gambling is a hobby activity mainly for rich individuals. They are the ones who can spare money betting, because as you said, the money they lose won't have a major negative impact over their finances later.

People discuss nowadays means to make society socially balanced, reducing the frontiers between riches and poors. As consequence, they conclude raising taxes is the best alternative.
