I've been searching this forum for mining alt-coin: MaxCoin, and the majority of the talk is ramblings/rants and vague dead ends, so I wanted to start a new thread. The common denominator of research found is that MaxCoin is based on SHA-3 Crytographic Hash function endorsed by Max Keiser... and that's about all it says.

Questions that remain:

1. What are the best methods of mining SHA-3 (in this case MaxCoin)? CPU? GPU?
2. Since ASIC miners are primarily for BitCoin / SHA-256, is there proprietary hardware that focuses on the SHA-3 algorithm?
3. What is the current value and difficulty of MaxCoin?

I've tried posting in the maxCoin forum, but haven't had a response since I posted a couple weeks ago. There were talks about using CUDA mining for SHA-3, but no other word has been said.

Before I give up on attempting to mine this, does anyone else have some 411 on this?

1) GPU, forget about CPU mining http://dwarfpool.com/max
2) ASICs for SHA-3 most probably exists but not "industrially" : no manufacturer is known to have any interest in releasing one. So you can call it ASIC free for now.
3) https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/152 http://dwarfpool.com/max/calc

411? What's that?
MAX resumed it's price fall but it is far from dead because if you compare to most cryptos, you can unfortunatly say it is very healthy compared to others lol

If you have interest in MAX and if you have the time to, i would advise you mine a more profitable coin, sell it, then buy MAX

Wasn't the Maxcoin launch an utter fail with a few people mining all the blocks while everyone else waited for the compiled wallets? Not to mention the secret GPU miner.

And that's why I wanted to ask. There's this void in time after its launch and even the twitter accounts are ambiguous updates. Looks like I'll mine other alt-coins in its place.

This is troll propaganda. Complied wallets were available from the start. The Mac OS wallet had a GUI, but the windows and linux wallets were command line only. But perfectly usable for the purposes of mining. The miner source released by the dev team had to be complied, but complied miners were available for download at 1GH and ypool.

A GPU miner was released by cbuchner (creator of cudaminer) and posted in the OPEN right here on bitcointalk. It was not a secret.

MaxCoin had the fairest launch of any altcoin I have yet seen and it was not premined. The developers do not even have enough MAX themselves yet to fund a proper bounty program as they held back from mining it for several days so the community at large could benefit. But unfortunately there are a lot of people who would like to trash the reputation of this coin.

Maxcoin was one of the worse launched and dev support is still poor. You would assume a qt wallet would be out before a launch. Plus the devs didn't really give the public transparent information on it. I'd rather mine LTC, DRK, VERT, HIC, HVC and other coins than Maxcoin.

The launch had problems due to the droves of people who emerged wanting to mine it from launch. They even managed to bring down these forums servers. Nobody could have anticipated the demand there would be. MaxCoin is only a few months old, and since the developers have not premined it, they are doing their best with limited resources.

They didn't pre mine it, they "solo-mined" it for 24 hours by having one of the few working clients and a secret GPU miner.

~BCX~

No they didn't. This has been stated clearly and repeatedly. Whoever was solo-mining it, it was NOT the devs. You have NO basis for this claim whatsoever. You are just spreading lies and FUD.
Also, that 'secret' GPU miner was posted by cbuchner, the developer of cudaminer, RIGHT HERE in the open on the bitcointalk forums. It had absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with the devs.
Get your facts straight BCX or else this troll charge you are leading is going to destroy what little of your reputation remains.

Just read through the ANN thread, the evidence of foulplay is all there. Check the amount of pissed users around and after launchtime.

Research yourself before investing/mining, don't trust strangers like me.  Wink

OP, if you are looking for factual information about MaxCoin, then I would suggest you come over to the MaxTalk.org forums. You will not find any here or on MCXNow, both are stuffed full of trolls and haters who will lie, steal, cheat and say whatever they have to, truth be damned, to talk down the price and convince everyone of outlandish conspiracy theories. BCX and co are tinfoil hat wearing propaganda trolls and they want to see Max fail.

The "bungled launch" was a cover so they could "monopolize" the mining early on at low difficulty.

If they wanted to monopolise anything, they could have just premined it and saved themselves a lot of headache. Why would they go to such Machiavellian lengths when there was a far simpler way to do it? Have you ever heard of Occam's razor? Probably not. You are clutching at straws now with these conspiracies and it is so obvious it's almost laughable.

It is also clearly apparent that large gpu farms came online almost instantly.

Yes, indeed. Farms belonging to followers of cbuchner's cudaminer. Those GPU farms originated from people right here on the bitcointalk forums! The miner source was leaked HERE on THESE FORUMS right in the open for everyone to see for themselves. Just go through the cudaminer announcement thread and see for yourself. But everyone knows you don't give a shit about the truth, only false accusations and FUD, so I don't expect you to actually go and do any kind of honest investigative work.

None of it was accidental and I don't think for a second that Max Keiser actually realized this till much later

No it wasn't. That much we agree on. In fact, it would not surprise me to find out it was actually YOU who is the one behind all of this. Yes, you heard me. You are a well known miner and I'm sure you have the resources to pull this off. In my view, YOU are suspect NO 1! Why else would you be so passionate about spreading misinformation about this coin? You want to see it die and will do and say ANYTHING to try and convince newcomers of your lies. Well, I have news for you mate, it's not going to work so you might as well give it up before you start looking like a complete asshat. If you keep up with this trash talk, I will pour every resource at my disposal into revealing you for the fraud that you are.

Here is an excerpt from the official cudaminer README (which can be found on github at: https://github.com/cbuchner1/CudaMiner/blob/master/README.txt)
Code:
>>> MaxCoin Specifics <<<

MaxCoin support was possible on short notice only because the coin's launch
was delayed by 24 hours and a cpuminer source code was posted to bitcointalk
prematurely. The keccak hashing feature is not complete and user friendly
yet, but it should be good enough to get you instamining AT COIN LAUNCH
with several dozen megahashes at least.

GTX 780 devices break 200 MHash/s. Yay!
A GTX 660Ti can do nearly 100 MHash/s.

The CudaMiner Windows binary release is made around 19:00 GMT on February 6th.
You have about 30 minutes to find suitable launch configurations for all your
cards before the coin actually launches.

The MaxCoin wallet will be available from 19:30 GMT onwards on
http://maxcoin.co.uk

Did you catch that?? I will repeat it once more since you clearly have difficulty with factual information:

"MaxCoin support was possible on short notice only because the coin's launch
was delayed by 24 hours and a cpuminer source code was posted to bitcointalk
prematurely."

and

"it should be good enough to get you instamining AT COIN LAUNCH with several dozen megahashes at least."

and

"You have about 30 minutes to find suitable launch configurations for all your cards before the coin actually launches."

Here lies the facts behind your conspiracy claims. The truth cuts like a knife, BCX...

Which is why he has abandoned the coin entirely.

Ok, this statement in of itself is enough to invalidate everything else you are trying to claim. If you followed him on twitter, you would see that he tweets about MAX on a daily basis. You are clearly talking through your anus and you are even starting to get tangled up in your own bullshit and lies. Just drop it. You have ZERO integrity left on this matter. Nobody who cares believes a single one of your FUD claims. This whole troll charge is making you look like a desperate, pathetic noob. You need to take some lying lessons from Jamie Diamon, who I'm sure is your troll-idol.

if the coin takes off starts getting many investors and adopters do you think than those people are gonna care about the launch? no they wont, the people that care about it mostly are the people on this forum, ive seen everyone cry foul about the launch this coin was selling at a very high price the first few days anyone mining made good money,  at this point who cares, there is now 14 million plus of this coin, the launch doesnt even really matter anymore.
