Many of us are new to Bitcointalk, even though I am just a Jr. Member, but many are worried about how to start as a newbie or how to get merit. But I think we all have to agree that it’s not something to worry about or think too much about as a newbie. So today I will try to share my observations and thoughts about Bitcointalk, how to get started, or how to contribute to this forum. But again, as a newbie, I will be making mistakes. If I say something wrong, please correct me. So today I will try to share my observations and thoughts about Bitcointalk, how to get started, or how to contribute to this forum. But again, as a Jr., I will be making mistakes. If I say something wrong, please correct me.

Check out the pinned posts or guidelines

First of all, if we want to get started with anything, we all need to know some rules or regulations about the platform. I think within the forum section or in every local section, there is a pinned post where all the rules have been discussed. Also, a pinned post helps us find our desired section or any necessary information easily. As newbies, we need proper guidance to avoid mistakes in the forum. So by reading these pinned posts or guidelines, we may know how to start and understand the value or purpose of this forum properly.

Are you looking to earn merit?

Some might disagree, but I think we all tend to earn merit and make ourselves into the higher-ranking accounts in this forum. It's a kind of fantasy, I guess. But I believe you'll always get your desired merit if you add some value to the community with your posts or comments. So at first, you have to focus more on your posts or comments. You can share your thoughts about something or anything that you know well. Also, you can share your experience with something relatable to the platform. Which will boost your account and help you grow. Oh, forgot to mention that you shouldn't just post on your local thread. If you opt to earn some merit, try to post or comment on threads like Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion, Economies, Meta, etc., where all the posts or comments must be quality. And of course, don't post something that isn't relatable to that particular thread. If you maintain the quality of your post and follow all the things I have said, you will get merit.

Concentrate on adding value to the forum

I think if your main focus is to earn more merit and become legendary just to participate and earn money from the signature campaign, that will not help you grow your account. If you want to be respected and admired by all in the community, you need to do good stuff and show it to the community. Also, it's not mandatory to upgrade your ranking, so do not pay much attention to that; rather, focus on your post quality and think about how much you are contributing to the forum. How will you understand that you are getting noticed by other higher-ranking accounts? Well, you will see everyone engaging with your comments or posts, which should encourage you to continue your passion for this forum. By continuing this good work, you can improve your ranking and merit both very quickly and without paying attention to it. It's all about providing value.

Keep expanding your knowledge

Firstly, don’t set that mindset of joining signatures and earning more money, but focus on knowing more and expanding your knowledge from wherever you can. Well, you have to accept that joining Signature is a process, and you may know that those signature campaigns don't accept newbies, so if you want to be eligible for those campaigns, you must have a higher-ranking account. As a newbie, you need to create quality posts, just like those higher-ranking accounts, while maintaining good relations with those other accounts. Don't spam just be yourself and respectful to others. It's a process of learning, so keep enjoying the process; I am sure you will be successful.

Share your knowledge

Always remember that if your information benefits someone, you will be applauded greatly by this Bitcointalk community. But don’t worry; you don’t need to have tons of information or experience to help someone. Even though you have to start everything from scratch, you should still try to maintain professionalism in your speech. Just express something that you feel and keep things moving. I understand you may not be a trading, blockchain, or technology expert, but don't be worried. Just imagine where you are right now; other lower-ranked people are chasing you. You are also an important thing in this community. So don't hesitate to pass on the knowledge you have. Be confident. But remember to contain your comments or post discussion within the topic. Don't share any unwanted thoughts; otherwise, your post will be deleted by the moderators.

Find satisfaction in your current level of success

Even after following the steps I have mentioned above, if the outcome doesn't satisfy you, don't be sad or gutted; rather, enjoy it. You have learned a lot in the process. I am sure you know that good things come late. Just enjoy this moment as you now know what your responsibility is on this forum and many other things, but don't think to yourself; you are the best. Be self-critical and improve yourself with every opportunity you get. At the end of the day, knowledge is more important than anything.

I hope my writing helps someone. Thank you for reading. Peace🧘‍♂️

You've been a member of this forum for over four years now, though you have been inactive for sometime, but you have only earned 1 merit. Thus i think you should leave tips and guides like this for users who have earned a lot of merits and are somewhat reputable. Personally i don't think it makes sense for newbies to be giving tips/guides to other newbies.

This is not the first time a newbie has created a guide for newcomers, maybe they feel the need because beginners always seem to be lost and ask a lot of questions about the forum that could be answered if they read the sticky threads. But my question to you is how do you think it’s possible that your message would get across to newcomers if by tomorrow this thread is on the second page of this board? The pinned threads are very helpful and visible yet newbies ignore them. Why do you believe yours will make the difference?

If you opt to earn some merit, try to post or comment on threads like Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion, Economies, Meta, etc.
Or you post wherever you have an interest in. Some of us are here to only discuss bitcoin having little knowledge of the altcoin space, hopping on there for merits means we don't enjoy the forum as much, even if we try to stay on topic.

I once had a record player, and the record would constantly stutter, causing phrases to repeat several times. OP, you brought me back to my childhood and the worst memories.
User, with four years of registration and one merit, teaches others how to live on the forum. Poor thing, is that all you learned here? Or are you that weak?

The first paragraph of your work requires reading several times on your own. Don't rape the community with this.

With all due respect, I believe that rankings do not always reflect the depth of our knowledge and ideas. That's why I felt compelled to share my insights, even after being away for years. However, I respect that everyone has their own thoughts and perspectives.

You did a great job on this guide. It has helpful points that could benefit many newcomers and since you created it too, I guess you learnt from It. Don't be intimidated by others they're just trying to help you learn. We were all once newbies just like you, and what helped us progress was learning more about the forum. It's not that you can't create a guide as a newcomer, but it's good to learn first to set an example. I'm curious why you've been inactive for so long, but don't let that discourage you. Focus on reading more and posting less. You seem to understand the forum well since you've written this guide, so put it into action and keep improving. Later on, if you gain more ranks and create better guides, others will appreciate and possibly reward your efforts.

I agree on this point because as an old member, I have not gained as much merits even by adhering to these tips and I know that it may seem easy to just read and digest, but in cases where ones account becomes like a ghost account, meaning no merit coming in as usual, should one then assume their post ain't quality enough or that they are posting on the wrong board?

The best tip I see that will be useful to you as a newbie or member that isn't ranking up, is to keep consistent effort even when others may say that you post as if it's a career of sort. Be serious in your business and others will key in and provide the merits for the next step of elevation.

Put in some effort
This is the honest advice I give to newbies who want to create a space for themselves on the forum. You have to put some effort in so you have something to give out to other members and in return you'll get recognized for your efforts. Do not direct your efforts into how you can rank up or spam or create merit fishing posts, but how you can benefit other members.

Know your niche
Creating a niche for yourself can help you perfect the knowledge you have on that topic. Your niche could be the Bitcoin technical discussion, economics, altcoin discussion, gambling etc. Ensure you know your stuff in that niche.

Be active
If you want to be a regular user and benefit from only reading from the forum, you do not have a need to be constantly active, but if you want to ride up the ranks you'll have to be active and lend a helping hand t members when you can. Having your replies in the first page of threads help to get more attention, the higher up the page the better.

The most important factor still remains the quality you're giving out.

My tips to newcomers is to learn first and follow the forum rules. There's a reason why there's a forum rules although some people didn't even follow. Some people really did it intentional like spamming or posting shit posts to reach the post requirements needed in a campaign. Anyway,  these are the tips that I would advice to newcomers from your list of tips that I think can help newbies or newcomers.

Check out the pinned posts or guidelines
Finding a way to learn should be the mindset of newcomers instead of waiting for someone to spoon-fed you the information or rhe knowledge.

Concentrate on adding value to the forum
By doing this, many forum members will give you merits so no need to prioritize earning merit because if you post high quality posts then merit follows.

Keep expanding your knowledge
This is related to the first one which is about learning. Asking questions if you find something complicated.

Share your knowledge
The tip is self explanatory which is to share what you have learned to others newcomers and also news, events or something related to crypto.

Usually when someone begins a sentence with with all due respect, there is often an undertone of sarcasm in there. I have to agree with Coyster, you shouldn’t be teaching other newbies how to earn merit if all you have is just one merit after being on the forum for this long. If you really want to help, you should lead by example. Use your own strategy to get merits and see if newbies wouldn’t take heed to your suggestion.

User, with four years of registration and one merit, teaches others how to live on the forum. Poor thing, is that all you learned here? Or are you that weak?

LOL, if I were the OP, I'd be shy to create this kind of topic, owning to the fact that I've been on the forum for a number of years but have not even posted any helpful information on the forum to receive at least a couple of merits. Also, I have lost count of the number of times I read exactly this kind of topic during my stay on the forum.

I think you didn't even look at the OP, who has a neutral tag for using AI to create posts. It seems he has some reputation on the forum already.

Newbies Stop Teaching When You Need To Learn.

OP needs to read that topic and stop teaching other newbies when OP is still a newbie and has a lot of things to learn.

Ask ChatGPT: Tips for Bitcointalk newcomers, will give newbies better advice.

I am curious on what ChatGPT will give me, if I ask it, and now it can be used without an account. Below is its answers.
Quote
If you're new to Bitcointalk, the official Bitcoin forum, here are some tips to help you get started:

Read the Rules: Before you start posting, make sure to thoroughly read the forum rules. Each section has its own rules, so be sure you're familiar with them to avoid any issues.

Search Before Posting: Many questions you might have could have already been asked and answered. Utilize the search function to check if your question or topic has been discussed before.

Contribute Meaningfully: When participating in discussions, make sure your contributions are relevant and add value to the conversation. Low-quality or spammy posts are generally not well-received.

Introduce Yourself: Many Bitcointalk sections have introduction threads. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the community. This can help you start building connections.

Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated with the latest news and discussions in the cryptocurrency space. Bitcointalk can be a good source of information, but also consider other reputable sources.

Be Respectful: Treat other forum members with respect, even if you disagree with them. Avoid engaging in personal attacks or aggressive behavior.

Use Proper English: Bitcointalk is an international forum, and English is the primary language used. Make sure your posts are clear and grammatically correct to facilitate communication.

Verify Information: Be cautious of the information you come across on Bitcointalk. Verify claims and do your own research before trusting any information, especially if it involves investments or financial advice.

Protect Your Privacy: Be mindful of the information you share on the forum. Avoid sharing personal details or sensitive information that could compromise your privacy or security.

Participate in Bounty Campaigns: Bitcointalk often hosts bounty campaigns for various cryptocurrency projects. Participating in these campaigns can be a way to earn cryptocurrency rewards, but make sure to thoroughly understand the terms and conditions before participating.

By following these tips, you can navigate Bitcointalk more effectively and contribute positively to the community.

Any more advice?
Quote
Certainly, here are some additional tips for newcomers on Bitcointalk:

Diversify Your Reading: Bitcointalk covers a wide range of topics beyond just Bitcoin. Explore different sections of the forum to gain insights into various cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, mining, trading, and more.

Stay Skeptical: While Bitcointalk can be a valuable resource, it's essential to maintain a healthy level of skepticism. Not all information shared on the forum is accurate or trustworthy. Always double-check information and consider multiple sources before making decisions.

Learn from Others: Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience shared by other forum members. Engage in discussions, ask questions, and seek advice from experienced users. Learning from others can help you deepen your understanding of cryptocurrencies and related topics.

Be Patient: Building a reputation and establishing yourself as a credible member of the Bitcointalk community takes time. Don't expect instant results or recognition. Focus on consistently contributing valuable content, and your reputation will grow over time.

Use Private Messaging Sparingly: While private messaging can be a useful feature for communication, be cautious when engaging in private conversations with other users. Avoid sharing sensitive information unless you trust the recipient, and be wary of potential scams or phishing attempts.

Stay Organized: Bitcointalk can be overwhelming due to the sheer volume of information and discussions. Use features like bookmarks or subscriptions to keep track of threads you find interesting or valuable. Organizing your interactions can help you stay focused and make the most out of your time on the forum.

Respect Intellectual Property: When sharing content or information on Bitcointalk, respect the intellectual property rights of others. Avoid plagiarizing or reposting content without proper attribution or permission. When referencing external sources, provide appropriate credit to the original authors or creators.

Report Abuse: If you encounter any abusive behavior, spam, or violations of forum rules, don't hesitate to report it to the moderators. Reporting helps maintain the integrity of the forum and ensures a positive experience for all members.

By incorporating these additional tips into your Bitcointalk experience, you can navigate the forum more effectively and derive greater value from your interactions with the community.

We see new members on this forum all the time. Many people are very confused in the beginning about where they start and where they end. In spite of this confusion many try to know without getting frustrated and by visiting different sections and browsing in different ways they can get some idea. Those who have the interest to know and who can spare the time but surely know something about this forum.  You have definitely provided some important information for newbies that if a new member reads then he/she may not have to go to other sections to try to find out generalities. To the new members I will say that every member is new to the forum at one time so don't get discouraged give them time and try to learn hope you will learn a lot and gain a lot from this forum.

This is actually a very good and educative post OP and all thst you have shared is in a way or the other very important and useful to the newbies who are probably in this forum and are willing to learn from all that have been explained by you, this will actually be very helpful if any one really wants to understand some basics about this forum well enough.  It's very important that newbies get to learn from the forum well enough first before trying to become such persons that can be able to contribute and make helpful replies or post too aswell.

Rushing to get merits and probably start earning from the forum shouldn't be the primary or basic aim of any newbies at all in the forum, they should rather think of getting to have .ore knowledge and understand the forum so they can aswell be able to become better posters and also have better knowledge as application of cryptocurrency outside the forum.

This is the complete irony of the whole matter. In your advice, you noted that we all tend to earn merits. This means you are inclusive. If you tend to earn merits but have just earned only one since 2020, it should be a clear indication that you are not at the right position to give this advice. I doubt you wrote this thread yourself, because you ought to understand that this won't turn out great.
However, I do acknowledge that the advices you gave are good and great, but I feel it's not coming from the right person.

I want to teach you how to make money, I must not be rich to do this. Just follow my instructions and not follow me. LOL

With all due respect, I believe that rankings do not always reflect the depth of our knowledge and ideas.
What that user said wasn't about ranking. It's about "the number of merits gained" within the period you've been here. I don't think anyone will lampoon anyone for having merits but not being able to rank up. Basically, I too don't believe the dichotomy in ranks is a testament of how knowledgeable anyone is. I even think getting merited is subjective but that doesn't mean a dedicated user can't get more merit than what you've within the period in question. So, don't get all emotional about it. The reason users are dragging you here isn't because of your low merit but because you're teaching something you don't even practice. That's just it.

Quote
That's why I felt compelled to share my insights, even after being away for years. However, I respect that everyone has their own thoughts and perspectives.
It's obvious your insights have gained you more backlash that admiration. Was that what it was intended for?

I hope these tips are not an inducement to get some merit.
Hopefully the tips outlined above can help yourself to survive in the forum. I am not cornering or forbidding you from giving tips to other newbies, but before doing that you should be able to apply them to yourself. I see that every tip point outlined above is useless for you, if you really do as mentioned in the Op, there is no way you will still be in Jr rank. Member after more than four years on the forum.

Peace🧘‍♂️

Thank you for sharing this tips, my own tip for you is to be yourself in the forum, be original and don't fake it, make the forum your comfort zone regardless of the backlash I've got from other users (I wouldn't blame them though)

I'd like you to make a better thing out of the negative replies, work on the quality of your posts, be consistent (only you alone can tell why you haven't been active for a long time so I won't judge or make you feel bad and it)  don't feel bad buddy because you will get more of the backlash if you fail to learn. It is a tough place my friend, learn before you teach. Like I said, be original and don't fake it.

OP nice advise but it seems you haven't been active on the Forum and you came out from nowhere and you start giving someone advise on how to go about business in the Forum? Seems like you have been taking lectures offline while those who are online (I mean the newbies) still don't get it how things are done on the Forum, brother what are we not getting?😁
To me I'd say you know more than many newbies on the Forum and the community is not that new to you, since 2020 you went off and all these while you have been watch all of us without being active, hmm, well you're welcome back Sir.

Welcome back mate. Good points OP even though newbies are not actually reliable giving tips most especially to other newbies. But I guess if you have something relevant to say that you think will be quite helpful not just for newbies but for all bitcointalk members, then giving tips and advises is not that bad at all. What is not good at all is that if you give financial advise to the people here because that could actually sound risky and dangerous most especially if it comes from a newbie's point of view.

It’s always an awkward thing to do and I don’t know how your comfortable doing it at OP, trying to give just want you don’t have in you and that is, being active on the forum or adding to it any kind of value. The thread you’ve created seems like a good one and we’ve had a couple of these on the forum but, how do you expect anyone to take you any serious if you aren’t showing it in the way your account is built.

I would rather live you an advice @OP, rather than trying to give what you’ve not got, don’t preach it in just words but, reflect what you wish to preach and you would find people easily taking to you and what you say on the forum. Still, I’ll give you credit for trying, it’s a good thing!

My tips for newcomers is avoid to read so called tips.

My tips to newcomers
- don't start giving tips to other newcomers
- don't give tips you don't follow yourself
- most tips you see are useless merit phishing posts

Or, way easier:

Lol, I was literally thinking of using this example in my response but you have already done it Grin. It's really funny and amusing to find such things where a person is trying to do something or teaching others to do a certain thing to achieve great results while you can see them having no results themselves.

It's like going to a person who creates medicine to cure baldness and make people buy his products to grow hair naturally without surgeries and then you find out that the person creating those medicines is bald himself Grin.

OP is a classic example of all these where he is trying to provide suggestions and tips for newbies to achieve great heights while he isn't able to do that himself even after knowing all those things.

I'm not the OP please 😁.
But there are some advise a newbie would be give to newbies and it would be like is coming from a scammer, imagine a newbie telling another newbie on the Forum that he's the best Bitcoin holder and can sell Bitcoin at cheaper rate to him or her and when both have an agreement the adviser can play a smart move without dropping the Bitcoin or even refunding the money back and we shouldn't forget that some of these newbies that are advising have bad intensions on the Forum, we need to be careful.

In order to increase our level, we have to write good writing that is easy for other participants to understand, that way whoever follows each of our writings will be more curious and become a fan, because people will wait for every post we write that is easy to understand, but it's another matter of writing frequently. That way, your account can also increase in rank and there will be people sharing the merit. Everyone will help what we are trying to do so focus and remain consistent

A good post must contain informative and constructive content, if the aim of making a post is to get merit, not all members will reward you with merit because assessing quality posts is very subjective. Good posters usually always contribute to forums by creating content that is useful for other members, but usually merit comes in unexpected ways, answering other questions can make other members appreciate your posts with merit.
Writing often also doesn't guarantee that it will bring you a faster ranking increase. It needs to be underlined, merit sources and merit contributors will appreciate posts that are useful for other people, not how often or how much you write and not necessarily long posts that get guaranteed merit.

IMO, for newcomers to the bitcointalk forum, the post could help them get started.
The purpose of being on the forum must be clear. When that has been determined, then do all the points in bold.
Checking and reading all pinned posts containing guidelines is necessary to understand what to avoid. From that first point, adding value to the forum can be a focus.
OP. To me, this post seems like a good summary.

I agree. It will be more convincing on our part if you have been earning numerous merits prior to this post so that other newbies will see yourself as their model version. Otherwise, it will be hard for them to establish their goals and targets in the forum if the one that is giving or sharing tips is not that highly reputable land highly trusted in the forum. Although tips can be made for everyone, but most likely it should be from someone who has higher knowledge and experience in the forum itself.

Is somehow funny getting a tip as advice from someone who has joined the forum for years but with just few merit.
Although some of the tips are something to work with but OP should try and work with those tips as well as to improve on his account.

I hope my writing helps someone.
You are not wrong, but because you are not in the position yet to be advising and giving tips to other newbies like yourself, you are not qualified to do so. If you are a newbie, be a newbie, do not try to teach other newbies like yourself, how to be better newbies. If you consider yourself as someone who has enough knowledge on bitcoins and cryptocurrency, there are other boards in this forum to exercise your knowledge which will quickly put you in the spotlight to be recognized as an individual who knows much about bitcoins and may just be a newbie because they are new to this forum but not to bitcoins. Also take your tips seriously.
