The idea behind it is the same as demo accounts on trading, if you are planning on turning your hobby into a professional activity then it is a good idea to test your method and strategies without using money at first.

This way if you happened to find a weakness or a problem with it then you will not lose any money because of it, which is not bad, as very often what end ups limiting the chances of someone becoming a professional gambler are the mistakes they make on their early stages, and which do not allow them to make a comeback even when they correct those mistakes.
Yes, that is what is said above. Many are saying that gambling should only be for fun and should not be taken seriously but I think sports betting has an exception here since I already saw lots of professional sports bettors and they can also make more money through their skill by offering a tipping service. To be pro is not easy but it takes lots of practice which can be money-consuming if we do it for real.

It is still more enjoyable or thrilling, and if we are lucky we can also earn a profit. Even if you use demo betting, mistakes are still there. Early mistakes are normal and even professionals can still make a mistake. They aren't totally a disadvantage because it's also the ones that shape us to become better. Once you correct your mistakes, that only means you already made a comeback.

If you were to restart sports betting again, would consider learning first by betting on paper. This involves selecting 1 to 2 games daily and tracking the outcomes of your picks without wagering real money on a sportsbookie platform.

Paper betting refers to participating in sports gambling without fronting any money. The idea is to learn the ropes without actually risking real money.

It is just like demo trading. Would do it if you were to begin sports betting again or jump right straight into the real thing?

Maybe for beginners, but for those who have been in sports betting for years, I doubt that they will go in this stage. If ever they try then there will be something of a void, something is missing and that is the adrenaline of winning real money here.

Nothing is bad for those who are going to start with paper betting, but this could be just for education purposes.

And as I have said, when we gamble there are a lot of emotions involved. And it can't be replicated in paper betting. The dynamics of betting with real money is very different and it can't be replicated without wagering.

You’re absolutely right that the experience of paper betting differs significantly from real money betting, particularly for seasoned bettors. The thrill of winning real money and the risk of losing it are integral parts of sports betting that paper betting simply cannot replicate. These emotional highs and lows often drive the decision-making process and can significantly influence betting behavior.

For experienced gamblers, the lack of financial stakes in paper betting might make the exercise feel less engaging or even irrelevant. The adrenaline rush and emotional investment when real money is on the line are crucial aspects of gambling that contribute to its excitement and appeal. This is why, although paper betting is a fantastic educational tool for beginners, it lacks the visceral impact and immediate consequences that come with actual betting.

Thus, while paper betting serves as an excellent platform for learning and experimentation without risk, it does not prepare one for the emotional aspects of real gambling, which can only be fully understood and managed through experience with real stakes.

Okay, so gambling without using a real money might be differenet from gambling that you risk a real money, but paper betting* is still very useful to us gambler as we test the water before we actually do gamble. If your result is positive, meaning profitable, that means you are good at choosing the winning bets, but of course it doesn't replicate your actual experience, however, since you have achieve positive result already it is a good sign that you can achieve that when you are in actual  gambling, you just have to control your emotion and be discipline all the time.
The difference is that it does not guarantee what is going to happen in the future. You might win or lose some paper bets, but the upcoming bets where you are wagering in real money might not be all wins. Testing the game and all might be one thing but this is what is different from paper trading.

Of course in sports betting where skills are involved they can be like practice bets. I am not sure how much it actually helps though. Most gamblers are just ready to jump in without thinking.
