all governments will likely try to get hold of the control not just the US government. and time is running out because the adoption is also accelerating.

This is right, and a good example is what we saw in El Salvador with chivo wallet, they decide to make from bitcoin money but at the same time they find a way to custody the coins and to have control over the users. The risk about this is when hackers decide to attack the government just like it happened some weeks ago when the chivo wallet got hacked exploding all their users' data and even the source code from the wallet was exposed.
