How do I trace a transaction history of a person in the blockchain?

I created this thread to learn something important. I know most of you may be conversant with it, but I am not well knowledgeable to that extent. Someone mistakenly sent USDT to a wrong address thinking it was the right address and now he has lost it. My question is how can we/I be able to trace the transaction through blockchain technology with the transaction ID?(Harsh)

You will need to specify the blockchain which the USDT is using. Is it ERC20, TRC20. Or layer 2 like optimism, arbitrum? Which blockchain?

You can see a link to the txid on some wallets that you are using which will transfer you to the explorer and the transaction on the blockchain.

You can only track where and which address the coin was moved to from the address that it was mistakenly sent to, but you can't get the exact person who is the receiver unless the person publicly discloses their identity by attaching the address to their social life, like on the internet, and the rest of them. 
 
If the address is also linked to an exchange account, in most cases, you can reach out to the exchange, where your chances of getting a response are very slim. They could also be the people who can give you details or help you contact the receiver of that coin.

Usdt has a lot of network and this is usually  specified either by the sender or receiver  before any transaction  is made they must both agree on same network  else the transaction will be lost forever.  You need to I identify the network then you can trace it using the network blockchain explorer

I think it supports almost all network  by tether but you will need to check through  all network  to identify the amount it received if it tallies with yours. So it will be better to identify the network first to avoid the stress

The person that sent the USDT, kindly asked him which wallet address did he sent the usdt to, from there you can search the wallet address on the explorer and from there, you can check the transaction history and last transaction that was done in that wallet address, if the person really send it to that address you should find the transaction hash there and the amount of USDT else he might lying to you.

Most likely, it should be in Tron network since the fee for sending it is lower than other chain. Ask him for the wallet address and if it start from T......dhhf, you can simply scan it on the explorer or better still request for the transaction harsh.

If the address start with 0x.....37dh, check blockchair explorer, it will show you other EVM that supports the address and you can open them each tab for all from Ethereum, bsc, Matic, fantom, Arbirtrum, optimizm, and many more. But better if you ask for the transaction harsh.

While following the tips to trace the transaction the sender should also think up how they sent it to the wrong address. It's possible that the device has been hacked and infected with a clipboard hijacker. Do a scan on the device and if anything comes up sweep all funds to a new address created on a different device and reset your device.

Take precautions to not make the mistake again, that's more important than tracing lost coins.

To track the coins, you can use the address or Transaction ID. If the amount isn't greater than $10K, I doubt the exchange want to return the coins. However if it's received by stranger, most likely your coins won't be returned since humans are greedy.

That’s a painful experience for the person, yes you can definitely track the transaction from addresses to addresses but tracing it to a person will be difficult unless it gets to a centralized exchange. Exchanges hardly reveal the KYC of their customers except on rare cases to authorities. So overall it is definitely difficult to get that funds back.

How about you look at the cause of the wrong address. It might be as a result of clipboard malware or more so an address poisoning happened through dust attack and the victim copied the scammer address mistakenly

Go to Coinmarketcap.com and Coingecko.com, choose in a drop down list a block explorer on a specific chain.

Copy and paste your address (sending address) or the receiver address (where you mistakenly send your USDT to), to check its transaction history, balance.

What will happen after tracing it?
Nothing, you can not do anything. If that receiver moves the mistakenly received USDT to a centralized exchange, will you send that exchange a support ticket to seize that USDT fund and refund it back to you?

It is complicated procedure and if your fund is small, forget about it.

it is quite difficult to trace who the owner of a wallet is, especially if the wallet is not often used by the owner. unless the owner of the wallet has left traces on social media or forums by writing the wallet on his account, then it is possible to trace who the owner of the wallet is. however, if the owner of the wallet does not leave any traces, then it is very difficult for you to trace who the owner of the wallet is for sure.

Just use the respective blockchain explorer, paste the TX I'd then you can see where the funds went to and click the address and so on. But there's no point in tracing such wrong transfers since they're irreversible and centralized networks can reverse/freeze such as USDT but it's gonna need government authorities claim that the funds were involved in any kind of big hack or scams.

You can trace a transaction after having the transaction id as well as knowing the network used for making the transaction in case of it tracking through the wallet address as well on the blockchain, however, there are things in which we don't have to bother ourself with because they are nothing than unnecessary wasted effort, something you will track and cant recover is of no use tracking at all, just try to avoid the mistake from happening so you don't have the reason of tracking.

So you want to trace the transaction via explorer you can easily do that, first you have to know which network you used to send the funds, if its polygon, Ethereum, or any other, then write like this Ethereum explorer or polygon explorer on google search or any other search engine you find best. After that select some suitable explorer and give the hash id and you can easily see the tx details, like who sent it to whom. The address that receives it can also be tracked.

But what you can't do is, you can' know where they receive is living and how you can contact them, although once I did not received my funds from a bounty (I used to join them a long time ago) and the funds allocated to me sent to someone else. Well, I searched the address on explorer that dude had only in-going tx no out-going tx. Well, I searched the same address on google and found one twitter account associated with that address, like that address was pasted on that twitter account, so I texted the dude but never got the reply. You can track but I can say the chances of getting the payment back is so less.
