On CadaNews, we have updated our list for the best Bitcoin wallets for 2025.
Our goal was to make a list of the most beginner-friendly wallets. Electrum is, for example, one of the better BTC wallets, but it's not easy to figure it out at first!

Your list is a complete joke. It's almost entirely closed source projects.

I appreciate the response. Which wallets would you place as the top 3?

I appreciate the response. Which wallets would you place as the top 3?

Ledger is closed source, so it's an automatic no. I've only tried Coldcard and Trezor, I consider Coldcard being Bitcoin-only as an advantage, but your perspective seems to consider altcoin support as "good", so whatever.

Trust wallet is closed source, automatic no. Phoenix Wallet has the best UX out of any Bitcoin wallet I've used on any platform, it's easily the top spot.

Atomic is closed source and caused users funds to be stolen, it's an absolute no. Wasabi is the best desktop wallet for privacy, and Sparrow/Electrum are the best desktop wallets for flexibility.

For best advanced mobile Bitcoin wallet, Zeus is elite.

I don't know what you found complex about Electrum wallet, however, i disagree, Electrum wallet is very easy to use and a newbie can figure it out immediately.

As for your list, you make a list of 'best BTC wallet' and you include trust wallet and Atomic wallet, seriously? Do you remember that many Atomic wallet users lost their funds many months ago, and even today we do not know what went wrong and the reason why their funds disappeared. You should fully understand which BTC wallet is safe before making recommendations.

I would avoid ledger on reasons you already mentioned " Closed Source". Since Coldcard is a bitcoin only wallet, i will prefer Trezor over coldcard.

Trust wallet is closed source, automatic no. Phoenix Wallet has the best UX out of any Bitcoin wallet I've used on any platform, it's easily the top spot.

How about unstoppable wallet, its also open source and i am using this wallet for storing my altcoins.

Atomic is closed source and caused users funds to be stolen, it's an absolute no. Wasabi is the best desktop wallet for privacy, and Sparrow/Electrum are the best desktop wallets for flexibility.

Atomic wallet should be avoided at any cost. Not only it is closed source, but that wallet has been compromised previously and never to be trusted.

For best advanced mobile Bitcoin wallet, Zeus is elite.

Haven't used Zeus, but Blue Wallet is also a good mobile wallet both on Android and iOS.

For what you’re describing—holding Bitcoin, swapping to USDT occasionally, low fees, decentralized, and mobile—I’d recommend Best Wallet. It's a solid choice for long-term storage and provides a simple way to swap assets with low fees. It’s mobile-friendly, secure, and gives you decent control without too much complexity. Definitely worth checking out for your needs!

I appreciate the response. Which wallets would you place as the top 3?

Ledger is closed source, so it's an automatic no.
That wouldn't be my biggest issue if they were honest but the problem is that Ledger lied about their claim of keys not leaving the chip. After introducing the Ledger Lecover service, as it seems, their Chips isn't as secure as they were advertising. So, they are liars and should never be trusted with anything.

I've only tried Coldcard and Trezor, I consider Coldcard being Bitcoin-only as an advantage
ColdCard is one of my favorite. The Passport Foundation is also good and more user friendly than CC but they are both great.

I don't know what you found complex about Electrum wallet, however, i disagree, Electrum wallet is very easy to use and a newbie can figure it out immediately.
It's as easy as possible, the only exception is sending Bitcoin to multiple wallet addresses, it's not intuitive in Electrum and if you don't find tutorial, it might be hard to understand at first but other than that, the wallet is as simple as possible.

Are you sure that it's the best wallet to keep your coins there long-term? It's not even open source.

It is good to use an open-source wallet for better safety options. However, a wallet has been an open-source wallet is not enough to guarantee the wallet as the best or good crypto wallet. Mind you, this is always a new development in the tech world every day and if the wallet new, or all source code are not totally check there is still a chance that the dev team have a backlog, or something that consumer their wallet user internet data for crypto mining (which is something that some dev do now)

To be even safer, use a hardware wallet because no matter how good a software wallet is, it does not guarantee 100% of the assets will be safe because it is still possible to connect to the internet.
Compared to the wallets mentioned, I think Unstoppable Wallet is better. Maybe because I am familiar with Unstoppable and may not have used Best Wallet.
An open source wallet allows developers to get feedback from users to fix any shortcomings that occur.

Neither does a hardware wallet. Nothing is 100% safe and impenetrable. Even if it was, there is always the good old wrench to the kneecaps or a similar method until you start singing.
We just had a big problem with Tangem hardware wallets recently where it was confirmed that seeds of users who contacted customer support were exposed and leaked. So much for security.

It is good to use an open-source wallet for better safety options. However, a wallet has been an open-source wallet is not enough to guarantee the wallet as the best or good crypto wallet.
Open source simply means that the code is open and anyone can verify it, using an open source wallet is not foolproof, but it is obviously  better than using a closed source wallet that nobody has verified. An open source wallet that is well reviewed and self custodial is surely better than a closed source wallet, however your funds is only as safe as the device it is stored in, so for better security the wallet should be used in an airgapped device and the user must have good opsec.

Yes, it is good to use a hardware wallet but they are also not 100% safe either, and if the wallet is good there's also a role you need to play as the wallet owner for you to get the needed safety.
Using an open-source and fully verified hardware wallet is good, but the best safety measure wallet is still the air-gap wallet.
I heard a lot of good things about the Unstoppable wallet but I never looked into it deeper.

I agree with you but some people seem to be missing the disadvantage of open-source wallets and somehow believe once it is open-source it is good to go.

The striking example is the open source  Linux utility that had for many, many years backdoor which made vulnerable encrypted SSH connections.   Interesting  that it is believed that no body in the world was suffered from this backdoor because of "bad actor sloppiness" otherwise "it would have been catastrophic for Linux users me including.

However, regarding wallets, I'm preferring open-source products.

Me too, the problem that a lot of people have is that they lack the skills and knowledge to verify the open source codes of these wallet softwares themselves. However, this is the reason why i always recommend that people go for well reviewed open source softwares, i.e. Electrum, so that even if you don't have the knowledge to verify the code yourself, you know that a large part of the community constantly does it. I know it is safer to do it yourself, but this way is surely better than using closed source softwares.

I seriously doubt there are that many people who verify the source code of software wallets like Electrum in detail. Their own developers do and a few hardcore coders who enjoy that sort of thing. Some bug bounty hunters and specialists probably search for vulnerabilities occasionally. And then there is the other side of the coin with black hat hackers trying to find vulnerabilities that they can exploit.

Asides from them, the most that general users do is verify the signatures of the builds before they install them and trust that everything will be ok.

I assume that the trusted open source wallet like Electrum are verified by the developers or those who have the sufficient knowledge about it. We, as an end user, don't have that much knowledge and we really don't need to do verifications about the source code.

If there was anything shady, it would have been highlighted and the code is constantly checked even by the competitors of the electrum wallet to find any vulnerability and defame them. That is one reason the open source wallet is more trusted however we should keep in mind that evil minded people are always there, testing the wallet to find and exploit the bug in the open source code.
