My Trust In You is Broken is a new documentary that was released yesterday. It tells the story of BTCPay Server, its origins, and where they are now.
Get to know Nicolas Dorier, the creator of BTCPay Server (who has an account on this forum), who explains his reasons for creating the service. You will also meet other enthusiasts who love the project and contribute to it in various ways.

The documentary touched upon the block size war in 2017 and why BitPay needed to be replaced with something trustless, free, and better.
It's an interesting watch for bitcoiners, and I recommend you take a look.

I will end this with the words of Nicolas Dorier toward BitPay: "This is lies, my trust in you is broken, I will make you obsolete."

You can watch the documentary here:

BTCPay Server is an awesome sovereignty tool, I use it to run my own coinjoin coordinator. I watched the movie, the backstory behind Nicolas' vindictive application of his talents is inspiring.

You can watch the documentary here:
MY TRUST IN YOU IS BROKEN | BTCPay Documentary
I am 10 minutes into this documentary and I am lovin' it.

I am loving it because I am learning something new. As an advocate for open-source software the documentary resonates with me. I am more comfortable using a software when I notice that is open-sourced than when it is closed source because of course the trust issues, security. Everyone should see the documentary as it encourages the community to become more involved in the bitcoin community.

After watching this documentary, I'll have BTCPay server as one of the top options when crypto restrictions is lifted in my country and I am looking for an open-source bitcoin payment processors for by business.

Btcpay server from the documentary I just watch is awesome to a great extent. All the intermediaries, vendors and services providers lied to us. Very cruel set of people.

I became more curious to watch till the end as I saw a place where the documentary captivated on my country's (Nigeria) one time big situation where the trust in the government broke down to pieces.. it was called the #Endsars which I think was very brilliant idea to feature it in the documentary as millions of Nigerians lost interest on third parties and wants to be responsible for their well being since the government failed us.

my trust in you is broken
This is where best fit to the area which he features Nigeria. My trust in you is broken.

It's very interesting I also subscribed to their channel I guess I'm looking forward to seeing more of the updates.

Freedom is the goal and bitcoin is freedom without this third parties.

I thought the Nigerian Central Bank already lifted restrictions and eased up their negative stance on Bitcoin. Anyway, the beauty of bitcoin, as you know, is that government parasites can't do much to stop it, even if they ban it. I understand that you may not want to break the law and respect that, but you can always accept bitcoin under the counter so to speak, without making it an official payment method in your shop.

Nope. It even became worse with the government accusing cryptocurrency traders as frauds and then crypto exchanges as those responsible for the fall of the economy. Currently some CEXs - Binance and Kucoin are been ban from doing business in the country

This is a valid point and it is very doable. I'll adopt it. Thanks.

I use BTC pay and recommended to people.
Watched part of the documentary, will probably finish it this week.

However, this constant hatred BitPay is getting ridiculous.

They wanted to do their own thing and pushed it (so did a lot of other people) it's over they lost, move on.

They are now processing thousands upon thousands upon thousands of transactions a day for people. They have decent service, decent rates, and for a lot of people don't give a shit about cryptocurrency or Bitcoin or anything like that but just want to get as much money or as many customers as possible it's a good service.

People send BitPay crypto, and BitPay puts cash into people's accounts. All these self sovereignty services obviously can't do that. And recommending things like BTCPay to people who don't have the time or want to put in the effort to deal with crypto is ridiculous. They want to make an API call, just like they do for visa or MasterCard or discover or any other credit card get a verified payment and move on.

I have yet to view the video but will make time to watch it in one go. For those that use it and/or have studied about it, they know the significance of what BTCPay Server offers. They can use it as an alternative to third-party payment processors that take a percentage of the incoming amount or it can have other uses such as donations and more.

This is a link to a thread I created about BTCpay Server: A Real e-Commerce Game Changer? and it dates back to 2018. Hopefully those that found the information in this thread and the video of interest might find the above linked thread interesting too. I will try to watch it tomorrow and post again.

heres the 2 funny's

firstly. this documentary was scripted wrote produced and edited by btcpay... so its an advert not a documentary

secondly many smart people fear the blockstream/chaincodelab/brinks syndicate of centralisation, more then a multitude of different groups, businesses, users and miners

nicolas dorier is part of the blockstream group

choice and freedom is eroded when all options of nodes are from the same small group of devs pretending they are different

nicolas is no different than the core roadmap group, he is part of it.. and seen any option that opposes the core roadmap as a threat rather than a choice

Some centralized exchanges just like the ones you mentioned didn’t really do anything wrong in my opinion. Why they are being heavily criticized and regulated by the government is just because the government wants to profit off of these exchanges.

They are going to ban it but then after these exchanges give them all they require then they can continue business in the country. The government wants to protect but it will also do anything that can be beneficial financially and economically speaking.

It's a free market and everyone can choose what they want to. If you have a shop and want to accept crypto payments and keep all of the money in your own pockets, than watch a video or two on YouTube about how to set up BTCPay Server or contact their team for help if you can't handle it yourself. On the other hand, if you don't mind giving BitPay a share of your profits, use them.

You can say that about many documentaries mentioning a service, product, person, place, item, tool, you name it.

Agreed, but for some reason a lot of the time when BitPay or Coinbase Commerce or a few others are mentioned as options for not doing it yourself there is a lot of push back.

There are a lot of good reasons to use BTCPay there are also a lot to use a hosted solution that gives you fiat.

Saying X is better then Y without knowing all the details is the same as saying this car is better then that car without knowing what it is going to be used for.

Right? I mean, Nicolas is the biggest hater of BitPay because there's no way that someone of this caliber would be fixated, he really doesn't like the idea that there's a better way but no one's doing it, I guess in some way, spite and hate is a good motivator, just don't go overboard or something like that I guess.

Agreed, but for some reason a lot of the time when BitPay or Coinbase Commerce or a few others are mentioned as options for not doing it yourself there is a lot of push back.
Sometimes the criticism is justified and sometimes it isn't. I personally don't see the point in paying BitPay or a BitPay lookalike fees and being forced to agree to all their terms, when there is an option where I pay 0 fees and there are no terms of use, no way to freeze my money, and no one asks any questions or additional information about me or my business activities. But if people don't mind the former, then more power to them. But when something goes wrong or not according to plan, someone will say, I told you so.

This. Using BTCPay means you don't need to wait for someone to allow you to use it. In fact, wherever Bitcoin has been banned or restricted to "permissioned" use, this is where people have turned to P2P -- the way Bitcoin is best for using. That's why Iranians turned to Bitcoin, Hong Kongers, Venezuelans.

Nigeria has also been the country with the fastest growth in P2P usage for Bitcoin -- so this trend continues. Besides, these laws and licenses and bans, they've never targeted the user, just businesses (read as corporations). You should have as little to worry about as using Electrum.

What platform is this available to watch, I really want to check out documentaries right now and I feel like I could get something out of it if I watch it, I don't have any subscriptions to any website though, I mostly watch clips of documentaries in YouTube so not really exposed to the good one, reading a few of the posts about it, the drama behind this story seems intriguing enough. Hopefully I can also learn something in all of that drama, I'll try searching for this in YouTube.

No offense but have you tried reading my opening post in search for a link to the documentary? Like, all of it. Take a look again and let me know what you find under the last sentence that says, 'You can watch the documentary here.' Perhaps, there is a YouTube link there, you never know. Wink

It's a very informative documentary, thanks for sharing!
When it comes to Bitpay, it's handling the Bitcoin part itself, and a person can just have USD from the exchange, as some mentioned in the documentary. It's a fair point that it's easier legally (for countries where Bitcoin is an asset that should be taxed as such). But pushing for Segwit2x when the block size was (and is) such a sensitive topic wasn't a nice step. And I suppose an open-source free alternative (BTCPay) is a nice development. I must say I was unaware of this option until watching the documentary. If I heard of BTCPay before, I probably confused it with BitPay.

The other side is when there is a problem, you (the merchant) are not trying to figure out what happened. It's a BitPay problem.
You as the merchant don't have to worry that the FIAT <> BTC rate changed a lot and have now lost money.
And so on. If you are doing $100000 in crypto transactions a year your out of pocket costs to BitPay (or similar) are 1% so $1000 and a $0.25 fee per transaction. So even if it's 4000 transactions it's only another $1000
Which to be sure is a lot of money on $100000 of sales it's 2% but it's 2% with no work vs 0% + TX fess + whatever % your exchange is taking for the crypto <> fiat exchange and so on.

But you can say the same thing with the fiat vs bitcoin argument. If there is a problem with your bank or your debit card, you call the bank and ask them to fix it. If there is a problem with your bitcoin keys, you don't have a customer service to turn to if you are the custodian. Regardless of that, we still love bitcoin and the freedom-money size of it.
