Here you find some clarification https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.msg6311902#msg6311902
and generally speaking there is a full topic that explains how to use collaterals here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.0

remember that you are always interacting with strangers here on forum.
no matter how sad a story is, it deserves attention, unless it concerns users with a certain reputation (and a loan request for small sums) collateral is always necessary.

Unfortunately some users have provided loans to newbies "on word" and received nothing in return...

If there is no collateral, only what I think can be used to give someone a loan on this forum should be your reputation and the campaign that you are. If the newbie go away with the money and not pay back which is very possible, who would we blame for such easy to know scam? I will blame the person that loaned the person some coins.

Would also like to add that some people will look at different forms of collateral differently. What some people would consider 'safe' collateral in terms of things other users would not touch.

There are people who like / use all types of tokens on a whole bunch of other chains. Others will not touch anything if it's not BTC / LTC / ETH. So there is always that to consider. Just because someone might think it's valid collateral another lender might not even think about it.

It may be expected to give loans from forums, but new people should be given them carefully. We don't know anyone on the forum; they are all strangers. How do you think about providing loans to strangers in new situations? It is better not to give loans to newbies; if the loan is provided, then a policy needs to be implemented. Many will fall into the fraud trap if such a loan is given. Bring a new account and leave with a loan. That's why i disagree with lending to newbies. Making such mistakes will lead to scams and nothing to do.
