Break dancing is a sports now? I'm not really buying that is a sport but I guess when there's a competition and it involves the kinetics of the human body, I guess I'll try to understand why it's considered as a sport. Now, you got me curious about this one because I really want to see this one, would there be like some kind of production that will accompany the breakdancing act because that would be really awesome and it will probably make the Olympics a bit more colorful than usual. Who will be competing on the track and field? Is there a roster of the players that would participate? Also, would North Korea participate in the games too?

The same, there will be a series of games for both boys and girls in order to qualify for the Olympics,

World Championships – The B-Boy and B-Girl champion at the 2023 WDSF World Championships, scheduled for 23 to 24 September in Leuven, Belgium, will obtain a quota place, respecting a two-breakdancer NOC limit per gender.

Continental Qualification Events – The highest-ranked eligible B-Boy and B-Girl at each of the five continental qualifying tournaments (Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania) will obtain a quota place, respecting a two-breakdancer NOC limit per gender. If two breakdancers from the same NOC dominate the WDSF World Championships and their respective continental qualification tournament, the former will qualify directly for the Games with the latter providing another opportunity to book another slot for his or her NOC through the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS).[3]

Olympic Qualifier Series – The top seven B-Boys and B-Girls eligible for qualification after a four-month-long invitational series of events will obtain a quota place, respecting a two-breakdancer NOC limit.

Host country – As the host country, France reserves one quota place each for the B-Boys and B-Girls events. If two French breakdancers for each gender qualify directly through any of the tripartite routes (world championships, continental meets, or Olympic Qualifier Series), the host country slots will be reallocated to the next highest-ranked eligible breakdancer from OQS.[2]

Universality places – Two invitational places will be available for eligible NOCs interested in having their breakdancers compete in Paris 2024 in keeping with the universality principle.

It's nice and refreshing to see some "unusual" sports are getting added into the mix. These athletes deserve some recognition on the biggest stage possible, just like skateboarders and surfers.

I did checked the winners of the Olympic Youth competition, and you are correct, most of them are from Asian countries. Although break dancing originated from USA as far as I know.

And I guess we are evolving as well, we never thought that break dancing will be as competitive as this one and they will be including in the Olympics. It took them more than 50 years to be recognized.

I never knew the Youth Olympics already made breaking available on their event, I never saw news about them including breaking on their 2018 Youth Olympics.

That is true, Asians have always been strong contenders when it comes to break dancing. I guess Asian's smaller and leaner physiques contribute to the nasty power moves they show during competitions.

I haven't made any bet on any Olympics games. I prefer the entertainment that comes from watching the games. My favourite games are the track and field event and swimming. The football matches are not as interesting as championships that are exclusively for football games. Hey notblox1, which are your favourite games and what is your predictions? Do you usually bet on Olympic games?

I like field and track events, especially running. I like long jump and high jump and the one with the stick. I also like swimming. I do not watch the football, I do not know if it is interesting or not but I prefer world cup instead of the Olympic football. But generally there are many other interesting matches which are fun. I also prefer to watch it than to use it to bet. I may try small amount of money this time if the matches are available on bookie sites.

I do watch the football matches but not all of them, especially if my country is also present in the football competition. I could remember in 1996, that was the first time that Nigeria Super Eagles won a gold medal as the first in the football competition. When Nigeria won Brazil 4-3, from 2 goals down, and played Argentina in the finals and won them. Atlanta 1996, was when I started understanding that football is a sport that brings the world together.

I also love track and field games, because I was a good Athlete in college. I will see how I will follow up these Olympics games to see if I will be entertained by their games.

Just a personal point of view. To me it does not make much sense to have breakdancing as a sport, I could get break dancing is a "discipline" because it requires time, dedication and also technique in order to achieve some remarkable and worth the attention of thousands of people in an stadium, though, if we start to go with such a definition and an sport or discipline is, there would will be a lot of activities or hobbies which could quality to have their on place within the Olympics...
I even recall there was going to be some inauguration of some sex based sport league in Sweden some months ago, in which purpose was to turn sexual acts and positions to some kind of discipline, being mode in public for judges to grant points to the couples and performers.

I don't know, I knew it was just a rumor, but each year that comes and goes it seems the definition of basic things like "art", "discipline", "sport" are slowly devolving into something I cannot recognize anymore

It seems that everyone enjoys the track and field event as I also one of them. And it will be obvious that in the mens and womens, the 100 m, 200 m and the relays are going to be team USA vs Jamaica. There were Olympics that the Jamaican team really out muscled the USA in this event.

Definitely, boxing as well will be the sports that I'm going to watch.

And in the last Olympics, our country, The Philippines has won it's first Gold Medal last summer games (2020) and it's in weightlifting and so our very own Hidilyn Diaz will be defending his gold in Women's 55 kg.

If I'm not mistaken it composes of different sports right? I only like a few of them mostly the jumping and throwing ones but what I like the most are the extreme sports like Skateboarding.

Between Jamaica and US, I wouldn't wonder anymore on why Jamaica can win more in Track & Field events because their appearance tells it all. I'm not insulting them but I mean is they look exposed in the outside activities and this gives them an advantage. Boxing is an intense sport but I am not really a fan of it. For me, I can enjoy wrestling more, lol.

I assume the Russian federation won't be participating in this Olympics because what is going on in the War between them and Ukraine, though.

They are participating as Individual Neutral Athletes under neutral flag, there are 56 athletes registered like that for this Olympic games.

By the way, since there have been some threads about match fixing and cheating around in this section lately, I wonder what you guys think about match fixing within the Olympics?

You cant avoid cheating anywhere, but it would be a big shame for anyone to do this in big competitions like this.

I wonder who will come out on top in the medals table, my guess is the USA or China as usual.

We are only a few months away from the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad or 2024 Summer Olympics that are scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in France.

I think generally speaking those sports ypu mentioned are typically more popular but this time of year in the Olympics I feel like swimming gymnastics and track events like the 100m are really popular.  I never watch swimming during any other time but I love watching the Olympics.  Huge basketball fan but Olympic basketball doesn't really do it for me.  Can't wait though.  Nothing like top flight competition.  Never bet on them but might give it a go this year.

But are those athletes people who live in the exile because of their political views or their sexual orientation or something similar? It would not be the first time I have seen people who have lived in the exile represent their country, because their nation had been officially excluded from getting involved.
Still, wondering how the unofficial Russian team will do, lately sport are something which fixe very often with politics, whether we like it or not.
By the way, I am from Venezuela so here we have had stories about athletes who wanted to represent this country in the Olympics and in other sport events, just for them to have an excuse to flee the country and apply for political asylum. Quite common when comes to people from Cuba, if I recall correctly...

On the topic of the match making: the more prestige  the event holds the more volume it has, so it is a desired catch for fixers and scammers. I will definitely keep my eyes opened if someone comes here offering privileged information on the coming Olympics. It is always the same scam.

I like watching basketball also but not quite but also just the popular ones. I do not like to watch it in Olympics also. Not even only basketball but also football is part of the matches I do not like watching in the Olympics but I like to know the winners. You have mentioned the games that are common that I also like in Olympics but I watch many of the races like 100m, 200m, 400m, relays and marathon. I like watching everything about race in Olympics. I like the swimming and the gymnastic also.

I am quite disappointed that cricket is not there as one of the disciplines. It is probably the second most popular sport in the world (after football) and is immensely popular in South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. And it surprises me that sports such as softball is included in Olympics, while cricket is not. There are rumors that it may get included in 2028 edition (Los Angeles, USA), but I can't find any details regarding number of participants or eligibility.

What do you mean? Yes there are countries that might struggle to win a single medal in an Olympics, but you can't blame it on Michael Phelps. It's that it just shows that there are still disparity even in sports. Top tier countries against those who struggled, but still this is sports and we can't do anything about it as they are considered "fair". They have the facilities and training equipment to be on top of the game, but there are others too who can pull an upsets and there are swimmers who beat Michael Phelps or even the most decorated Olympics medalist.

It is not equal to each other. Olympics usually do not bring in the best football players, and the games will be quite similar times to euro 2024 as well, so football people will not be watching Olympics, they never do, it makes no sense.

However, basketball is not like that, everyone is bringing their best players, and after getting humiliated last time USA team is bringing their best team they could bring in as well, it's the Lebrons, Curry's and so forth that will be playing and I think that they could have hard time even with that many great players. Sure beating smaller nations will be fine, but when it comes to semi finals or finals, they will face teams that plays together in most cases, so it is going to be tough for them for sure.

As compare to break dancing, well obviously there are competition and they used their body, and they even have names for this movement.

What really sucks is that we no longer get to see Usain Bolt (was a big fan of Yohan Blake as well).  For me, my favorite Olympic sport hands down is the 100 and 200 meter dash.  After that it would definitely have to basketball. 

As for betting, I'll likely only bet Basketball.  I know I'm going to put down a bet on the US to win it all, who is going to absolutely destroy everyone as this year all the best players decided to play.  Does anyone have a casino they use that allows for US Mens basketball bets to be made now?  The casinos I use for whatever reason only have womens basketball available.  I assume that some of the best international (outside the US) players perhaps havent committed yet?
