It would take a while for me to understand how this new UCL format will play out especially the league phase. I have become very familiar with the old format so much that this new changes seem very strange. What qualification rounds are being played right now? Because I thought all teams for 4 pots have been seeded already. With all these changes, are you all still big on Madrid winning the UCL? I strongly doubt so because the new changes will make it a lot tougher even for the strongest teams in the competition.

Great point. But aside from the talents we'd get to see, I think there's more. The UCL explainer I saw said something about top teams might get matched up together right from day 1 of the tournament from any of the 4 seeded pots. If there's a league phase already planned out, I only just learn about these qualification rounds that everyone is currently talking about on the thread. Really looking forward to see how this UCL will be if it would be better than the ones I have come to love.

As I already said, the next season will be decisive - if Arsenal does not take the title, then progress will be replaced by regression.

Arsenal must be able to win the title next season. They already have a solid squad and they have been runners-up twice in the EPL. I'm not saying Arsenal should be EPL champions because that's quite difficult. But at least Arsenal can get one trophy this season. The Arsenal squad is currently in their best performance. I think if they fail to get the trophy again this will affect the players' confidence.

Arsenal must at least deliver the same performance like last season. Arsenal performing quite well last season, but due to the small mistakes, and it cost them trophy. I was very disappointed how Arsenal lost the important games twice in a row last seasons. But, it must be a very important lesson for them.
I must admit, Arteta has been transforming this club well. But, as you can see, their mentality was the main issue.

Arsenal have failed to get the trophy two times. It was because Manchester City backstabbed Arsenal at the end of the season. I think player confidence will stay the same. But, failing three times in a row will frustrate them. It's possible for Kroenke, Arsenal's owner, to sack Arteta from the club.

The previous season, Arsenal managed to advance to the quarter-finals before finally being defeated by Munich. I think it's already a good result but they deserve to go further in the UCL.

The failed in the UCL last season, and it's proven they were not deserving to go further in UCL. But Arsenal almost beat Munich. I would not say Arsenal played badly in that game. They must be coming back stronger than last season. Last season, they failed against Bayern Munich, but i hope they will able to beat any big teams in UCL.
All in all, strengthening their mentality is the biggest improvement to be done by arsenal.

We are moving on from where we left in the Champions League qualification round... Next games are starting in 4 days.



I think Dynamo Kyiv, Fenerbahçe, Sparta Praha all will advance to next round. Only these three teams' matchups are attracting my attention for now honestly. But I hope we see some good action in the other ones too.

The odds are still not determined yet as far as I can see. If I get some good total odds from these choices I'm thinking of making a parlay with them. But betting on all of their win at the same time might be more risky so I'll think about it.  

Interesting match ups, I think bodo are also one team who might advance to the next round well atleast they are very active when it comes to their league performance but I can't say the same though since it's an open competition and the teams are not from the same league as they are all striving to qualify but if am to place a bet on Tuesday then I would certainly include bodo in my betslip if not for them to win then it would be to score over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal are not missing out on anything not to be a major contender of the champions league just like Manchester City and Real Madrid have been over the years now. Arsenal are a great team and they have all it takes to win any trophy now. There are quite significant differences from this new Champions League format, usually we see from the group phase which is filled with 4 teams per group and the top 2 positions will qualify for the knock out phase, the 3rd position will be in the European League play offs while the last position must be removed. This season we will see a new format, namely the league format from the start, the top 8 positions will go straight to the next round while the 9th to 24th positions will undergo a play off round, most likely they will enter the last 16 round later with a knockout system, after The format will be the same as the old format.
This is clearly confusing for some people, because some people will definitely think this is really like the league we usually see in the domestic league. However, there is a difference in that they will only play 8 matches, 4 matches will take place at home and the other 4 matches will be played away.

What an intelligent thought by you Oc Tradism. I had once asked myself how that young guy would be able to last very long in the industry considering that he came too early. Coming at 16 is very early and if Yamal is well mentored and protected as you said, he could live upto the standard of Ronaldo and Messi.

In the other hand, I don't know if playing plenty of matches will do more harm than good for the young boy or the reverse. He recently turned 17, so we shouldn't expect to see him injured frequently and even if he is injured, the healing will be super fast. So, he should give his best now he has the energy and fame, tomorrow cannot be rightly predicted.

I think Arsenal doesn't have to make a major overhaul to become champions because they already have a pretty solid squad and a good coach. At most, they only need to sign a few players who are really needed and don't have to make changes on a large scale. Arsenal's real problem is that they still don't have the winning mentality that Man City and Real Madrid currently have, and I think if on several occasions they can reach the final, it will form that necessary mentality on its own.

We cannot deny because for now even though Arsenal are a very good club but for Champions League matters it is clear that they are just an ordinary club that does not have any advantage in the championship competition but that does not mean they are bad because they are still in the Champions League zone it proves that they deserve to be there but not to be champions because seeing from their golden era even Arsenal always failed and their best achievements were only finals and runners up.

The Champions League is filled with great and great clubs in all the best competitions in Europe and it is very difficult for clubs like Arsenal who do not have any experience in the finals to compete because in the end even though Arsenal are currently a great club but in fact there are clubs that are even greater than them in terms of mentality, experience and club strength.

Some last seasons of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal fell a lot in quality and competitiveness and it lasted many years after that. It only started to change and improve since Arteta return to Arsenal as their head coach. If we recall, the appointment of Arteta on this head coach position caused a lot of worry but up till now, it's a good decision.

However Arsenal now are going to a new challenging period with which they need to win titles, not only to be an impressive runner-up in Premier League or only go a little bit far like quarter final in Champions League. Arteta must help Arsenal to win titles in next one to like three or four seasons. If he fails, his position will be insecure and maybe taken over by someone else.

Arsenal are not belong to very strongest teams in Champions League to be considered as one of last four or two best candidates to win it. It's true but they are strong and competitive and in sports, with it, Arsenal can make big surprise but chance to surprisingly win Champions League is not big and barely happen. It's 20 years since a last time an underdog like Porto win Champions League.

Actually there isn't a huge change but there are some important points to know.

• There isn't going to be anything such as moving on in the Europa League by finishing in a specific position anymore.
• There is no group format in the first place.    It looks like a league with 36 teams.
• Top 8 qualifies for next round directly, 9-24th placed teams play a knockout phase and the rest say goodbye to the CL.
• Everything else is the same as before - qualification rounds which are going on currently and the rounds after the league stage ends.

There is no doubt that Arsenal can face any team in Europe but the problem is not to face but to win. Bayern Munich won them to qualify for the semifinals which showed that even in Bayern weak form, they were still able to win the club in their peak form. Can you see the difference now.

It is not by being in your peak form in domestic league and you feel that you are very strong. UCL is a competition for champions but not everyone that participate in the competition is a champion. Arsenal should stop dreaming and face reality for them to have a winning mentality.

With the new purchase of Riccardo Calafiori for 50 million, in my opinion Arsenal has put another important piece in making an excellent path at European level with other players. Apparently, Riccardo Calafiori also did not play for AS Roma because after all, AS Roma also loaned Riccardo Calafiori to Genoa and after Riccardo Calafiori returned to AS Roma, in fact AS Roma sold Riccardo Calafiori to FC Basel and then to Bologna. And at Bologna Riccardo Calafiori experienced a very high  increase, but perhaps also because of Bologna's success last season which managed to finish in the top five in the Serie A standings. But indeed, because considering also about Riccardo Calafiori's age which is still 22 years old, then it will be a deal for the long term for Riccardo Calafiori to play at Arsenal.

Arsenal's success in getting Riccardo Calafiori will certainly make Arsenal's defense stronger because after all, last season in the Premier League that Arsenal became the team that conceded the least. But, at this moment Arsenal are still bringing in new players for the position of their defense and  thus, it will make Arsenal remain strong despite rotating players for big matches in the Premier League and also in the Champions League next season.

Arsenal are very good no doubt, but I don't think they can cope with the pressure that the European champions league brings, although when you look at their stand at the premier league level they are actually very good but at the European level they have always been trying really hard to meet as even the likes of an average team like sporting Lisbon and benfica of the Portuguese league can knocked them out.
