1. The performance of the player
2. The success of the team

Now to the discussion proper. Winning trophies and individuals awards in football is not an adventure footballers or the clubs get tired of. Clubs and players want to break and set record's that it's gonna take another club a lot of drained manpower and time to cash up with.
