There was an old topic where a newbie was actually making claims about how he can use and how he has used his math knowledge to win frequently in casino games and that he can give any one such strategy, but I guess he was just seeking attention or means to scam people. In my opinion and from my experience in gambling, having math knowledge doesn't determine winning continuously in gambling. Skill and strategy can give a gambler an advantage to win, but they don't work all the time. If a gambler is not lucky, they can still run losses several times.

Understand maths helps in gambling expecially in prediction and analysis of previous match, getting accustomed to some odd and Lotto numbers. There is a friend of mine that studies a wining game by even or odd number. He can tell you a draw match with the odd also he can tell a wining game from the odd, sometimes I wounder how he does that, so looking from the paspective of this thread, I believe math has a role to play in gambling but that doesn't mean that every game staked must have a sure wining. Gambling still remain a game of luck despite how smart, calculative or mathematical we might tend to be, we must surely win and lose.

The lottery is just like slots in my opinion even though it has branding that must use mathematical calculations in fact it is just a fortune, because some people also cannot be correct in calculating it so that the numbers come out according to the calculation, especially with the many ways of calculating today including using AI, of course it will be easy to guess if it is based on mathematical calculations but in my opinion it is not, everything goes back to how you get lucky with the same 4 numbers that are used as entries.

yeah, I agree, the lottery is a tax on people who do not understand math. also, if you understand math you'd most likely be more cautious towards gambling since you know the probability of you winning and losing in the long run. you'd also be more responsible about your gambling habits and probably be more picky when it comes to what games you want to play and you would probably choose games that don't heavily rely on luck.

I agree that not all games require detailed tedious calculations. In most cases when calculations are required, it is very simple mathematics. For example, when we calculate probabilities, we must in most cases find out the total number of cases and relate them to the number of cases whose probabilities we are calculating. Again, this is relatively simple math. I would ask another question here: Why do you think that mathematics and nothing but mathematics is so important here? After all, in any game in which you expect to win, you need a strategy. And strategy is something that is usually based on logic rather than mathematics.

I once read a true story about someone good at mathematics and it helped him quite a lot in card games but he didn't play it in a casino just with his friends, so I don't know for sure whether it will be the same when he plays in a casino but I think the results will be the same, because card games work the same way in casinos and the real world.

I have heard that some successful gamblers are good mathematicians but I don't have any concrete evidence to prove it. While growing up it is common to see gamblers with pens and jotters which they use to calculate games, odds and predictions. However, the advent of online gambling has changed the narrative. Most of the maths calculations can be generated automatically online. It is now common to see illiterates or those who have no basic knowledge of mathematics winning games. Calculation skills contribute little to gambling these days because it depends mainly on luck.

But maths could be handy when it comes to making gambling decisions. You need to have some basic knowledge for you to plan your gambling activities because it will help in budgeting and risk management.

I don't understand math like other people so that's why I don't thinks much about gambling and only trying to enjoy my spare time. I strongly agree for the simple reason that usually the lotteries are invented by mathematicians themselves.For example where I live the biggest two state lotteries have been created by some university math professors.They have created the game in such a way that even the one who wins the biggest prize does not hinder the profit of the company that runs this lottery.This way I have confirmed that yes the lottery is a tax on people who don't understand math.

I guess the aspect that's related to the application of maths in gambling is when you're doing your analysis and permutations on the choicest of all the games available and checking out for possible factor that could lead to a team performing below or above gbe expectation that's required of them which will go a long way to determine the outcome of the game.

Maths is very important is almost everyday life and I guess that's the reason why it's made compulsory at high school so everyone could get the basic foundation that will be useful for them in the future. Sometimes you could read the statement that's coming from certain club to know if they are having some internal issues that will affect there concentration on the field of play. These are all calculation and the application of maths.do your analysis right and you won't loose that much so I totally agree that  having the knowledge of maths could make you the better gambler but that's not just what makes you to win after you've placed your bet. Exactly the point, If you understand the math behind gambling then you will skip playing a gambling game with least possibility of winning while you can focus on game like blackjack, poker and other skill based game to improved your winning chance. Knowing what game to play is already a factor for being a godd gambler.

Poker yes. Math in poker is key in my opinion. If you play tons of games in poker and you are aware of the math and the position game, it will definitely raise your chances of winning. A player who thinks shoving 33 from UTG1 100 times in a row will lose more often and be out of the tournament than a person knowingly not shoving that pair of cards.

I don't know too much about blackjack, but I assume that math does help here. Or at least some sort of ability to count and remember things. In roulette it pretty much is irrelevant to know the math unless you are trying to pull off some bankroll strategy, but in the end the edge is against you.

As for the lottery, I think a lot of smart people do play the lottery, too. Everyone knows they are not gonna win, but this feeling that there could be this unreal jackpot in your hands for some godlike reason makes time sometimes more enjoyable. Most people don't spend fortunes either.

I think this might help. For example, I know a person who uses statistics for betting. That is, he calculates the probability of the outcome and bets on it. About a year ago he bet on Mancity (I don’t remember exactly, it seemed like Mancity) that the score would be 2-2, because this team had not had this score for 40 or 50 matches at that time, and in the middle 2-2 the score is played every 30 games. He bet on about 20 matches in a row and played at high odds on 21 of those matches. Now I could be a little wrong in the numbers, but you understand the meaning.
So yes, I believe that in some cases a person using mathematics can be successful, but it is still not reliable enough. There is no universal formula for making money in gambling

yes , this is about attitude and behavior mate and the eagerness to win that knows nothing but one way to win , though we must have different approach each time we gamble , but  self control is why many gamblers are winning .
Mathematics is just a form of computation that we are doing in our money while gambling but calculation for which will win?
that is different from the using of math over gambling .
