CGMiner output share sizes 8 * CompacF

Just wondering what others are seeing on their CGMiner output. My rig is pointed at CKPool for reference.

For about a week the shares that I was seeing being accepted were only just above the set difficulty 3200 so shares were typically between 3.2k - 50k

Prior to that I was seeing shares regularly posted 100K-1M

Things have pretty much returned to normal now, but still a little on the low side i'm wondering what everyone else is seeing typically

Everything looks absolutely normal.

Shares are random, so this is not surprising

Thanks, I wasn't sure what was going on it was ticking along with >100k shares regularly. Then for about a week or more low shares between 3.2k - 50k

I just found it really odd, it felt like something had broken somwehere.

That's pretty normal if you are mining solo on CKpool have you read the faq on their page? Then read this below.

The reason for this is your mining hashrate is too low to be detected by the pool due to a minimum diff of 10,000 set.
The pool will eventually pick up your shares and slowly adjust to suit your mining hardware.

This means it's automatically adjusted while mining and gets the most suitable difficulty for your unit.

Yes, the pool diff adjusted to the settings I requested which was 3200, which is about ideal for the hash rate the rig is achieving. This occurs within a few seconds of connecting to the pool, so I dont think its related to that.

However, this was something new my rig has been running since April and always with a good number of shares >100K I'd say on average a share of >100K was being submitted every 8-10 shares.

It was only in the past two weeks where I've noticed that the number of shares >100K had dropped substantially averaging into the <50K with most only just over the 3.2K difficulty setting.

It was a noticable change, which is why I wondered if something had broken somewhere.

It seems to have evened out a little now and I'm seeing more shares >100K again but no where near as often as when I first started the rig running.

Its so odd and really noticable when it occurs.

Use a share rate of 442 for each stick and let the pool decide to set higher to what it likes. At your end the individual sticks work independently - not together as 1 larger miner.

Thanks, I'll see how this goes for a while.

So far its not made any noticable difference other than the average share size is now smaller and more frequent. The pool seems to have settled at a difficulty of 1877.

Yeah, this made no difference at all. Just increased network traffic and share submissions with the average submission being smaller.

I've put the diff settings back to how I had it, things seem to be returning to normal again with higher value shares being submitted.

I've seen this pattern a couple of times now, no idea what causes it. The only correlation I can see is it occurd at similar times after a block had been found on the pool.

But who knows at least the average share size is going back up, though its still a few trillion away from a block!

That can't be related, rest assured that this is all random, it's a mind game, you reboot your stick and then you see 1m diff share and think oh, it must be it, you do that again, it may happen, then the idea will stick, but the reality is; it's all just random.

I would let the pool set the difficulty to maintain a reasonable load on the network, I don't know how CK handles his pool, but it's possible that the set difficulty would be ignored (assuming it's allowed anyway) if it turns out to be too low and your stick is spamming the pool with dozen shares, so when you first connect, you may see a lot of accepted shares at low difficulty, then fewer larger once, but at the end of the day, if your hashrate is reporting reasonably on the poo -- everything else should not matter.

I hope you hit a block with that stick.

Its strangely noticable when it occurs though, I check on my rigs a couple of times a day just to be sure nothing has fallen over initialy when I set-up there were USB problems but I solved that and its been stable pretty much ever since. With the exception of this low share value oddity that has occured a couple of times.

Having said that yesterday was a run on big numbers and it hit the best share value its ever posted since I started running this rig in April with 49.04B .

I guess that's random for you.
