It seems to me that there is no direct correlation with IQ, I would say that common sense helps to avoid losses, and it is precisely this that is often better developed in conditionally “stupid” people than in “smart” people. Basically everyone has the same chance in gambling, meaning they have the same chance to be able to win a very large amount, but not everyone can be that lucky, and maybe as you said that very few of them actually managed to achieve that big win, which is probably because everyone has a different level of luck.

I know of one degenerate gambler that would stake his cellphone for a single game, hoping to payback in 3days to avoid getting his assets seized permanently... But eachtime, he's not always able to meet up with it..

If I were to play until I hit the jackpot I'd either run out of money, or if I chose to bet a very very small amount, I'd fall asleep pushing that stupid button.
Personally, I don't even like slots so it would be a pain to go through all these hours of playing just to see that jackpot win. I get that people in casinos want others to see them win and crave attention that a jackpot brings to the floor, but playing alone in your room for hours is just painful and stupid.
