I just received a notification email from Binance about a successful deposit to my account. It's not phishing or anything like that, the email came from Binance, and the anti-phishing phrase is correct (I guess that part is functional)
It's hard to say that it's tricky because this is how the mail looked on my mobile device

At first glance, it looks like a deposit of 9898 USDT, right? It's actually "From: 9898USDT" so that's the sender's name.

The name "9898USDT" is only given by someone who wants to confuse the user, the question is why does Binance allow such things? Moreover, it is some kind of airdrop of a worthless BTTC token, which is some kind of new version of the BTT (Bittorrent) token, listed only on Binance.

In the past, small exchanges worked this way, which did not reject a single token just to have as much volume as possible, but it is quite bad if one of the largest and most dominant exchanges fills it with this kind of garbage.

If I get everything correctly, the one listed on Binance is the BTTC one, right, not the scam token you got above? I guess their phishing list is out of date because I don't remember seeing a notification for a phishing token in my Binance account when I used it (that was years ago, though, so that's that). I'd be surprised if they list phishing tokens just because so many airdrops are happening right now.

Maybe you should report this to support and ask if it's possible to stop receiving notifications for transactions like that or tell them to stop listing low-quality tokens. Sadly, users have little to no power unless they're rich.

It's funny. LOL! Look what these shitcoins can do. Did your heart leap up? Were you somehow curious and excited that there's a huge amount entering your wallet? I bet you checked your Binance balance right away. Grin

It's probably just your mobile screen that messed up with the details. If not with the 995.7 BTTC, it would have been more believable.

Anyway, as to Binance, anybody who can afford can have his/her shitcoin get listed. Whether it stays or gets kicked out shortly thereafter is another story.

In fact, this is how Binance gained its popularity: they listed tokens that would gain traction so investors could find and trade them.
You can contact the support team. I think the username issue is a loophole, and they may fix it.

In the past, small exchanges worked this way, which did not reject a single token just to have as much volume as possible, but it is quite bad if one of the largest and most dominant exchanges fills it with this kind of garbage.

I'm curious how did they find out your BTTC token wallet address? I think someone might be trying a targeted social engineering attack. I'm not into hacking, so can someone here explain how that could happen?

Some of this smaller tokens are willing to pay a huge amount in listing fees to get their token on some big exchange. They can then in turn market that to get more investors to buy using the reputation of exchanges they are on. For binance, it's more likely this than them looking for more volume

It's probably just your mobile screen that messed up with the details. If not with the 995.7 BTTC, it would have been more believable.
I think it was designed to appear that way. Why else would the sender name be a usdt figure? I would not be surprised if it's the same on pc as well

There are at least 4.3 billion reasons why they allow such things - CZ has to somehow pay back the money he paid for his freedom, right? That CEX has always been shady, that's why they've come under attack from governments all over the world, so I'm not surprised they allow things like this.

Was this an April Fool's joke, but it came late, or what?  Cheesy

I think maybe someone targeted you, OP, and sent you this with a name that contains USDT and a symbol similar to BTC to encourage you to open your Binance account? Are you sure your devices are secure? Have you ever shared your wallet address publicly?

I don't know if this is a more sophisticated scam from hackers or not, but I advise you to secure your account and devices.. You can contact customer support about this strange message as soon as possible.

Binance becomes shitty ever since they involved on meme coin scam project listing and promotes it with their social media especially CZ taht riding the hype with memes.

This is what my reaction when I first view the attached image for the transaction but Im’m confused since it’s tagged as sender while there’s 2 currencies mentioned on transaction that it looks like a conversion rather than transfer.

I read somewhere that Bittorrent is currently having some sort of airdrop and I guess that's what is the case here. Anyway, these kind of things shoulnd't be possible on the exchange like Binance and even if it happens, it should be sorted asap.

I kinda feel neglected as I also have active Binance account but I didn't get any free tokens.  Tongue

I got BTTC tokens and I have them on my assets page.

Here I tried to trade these tokens, but the minimum for such an action is 16,000, while I received only 995.7.  Tongue I guess this is an invitation to buy more so that I can trade this garbage.

I'll send you mine if you want.  Wink
It is possible that I once traded BitTorrent tokens in the distant past, so they recognized me as potentially interested.

Damn, not even $1 if I see it correctly. I wonder what makes them believe this will attract interest from their users. I guess it's naive to expect something more from Binance (or the project doing this airdrop), considering the last time I got an airdrop from an event, the pool was not big at all. The name is really terrible, too. Feels like there are tons of alternatives before they have to use a phishing-like name like that. CMIIW.

I speculate that another reason might also be that other exchanges are getting more popular than Binance is some jurisdictions. Despite the recent hack and I am only speaking of usage, if you are a small minnow trader and trade on Bybit, there will not be much difference from trading there and on Binance. This is a similar experience with OKX. More exchanges are getting better and the competition for this type of business is clearly becoming tougher for CZ's 4 fingers heheheh.

I'll send you mine if you want.  Wink
No, no, you got yours fair and square, so it wouldn't be right for you to part with your hard earned tokens.

It is possible that I once traded BitTorrent tokens in the distant past, so they recognized me as potentially interested.
I was also wondering the same, how the hell they found your address in order to send those shitcoins and I guess that might be the answer and maybe the reason why I didn't get them as I stopped doing any trading many years ago.
