Forum looks dead slow, like it takes 30-40 secs for every click which is worse than accessing via TOR in general.
I tried wifi, and mobile networks on multiple devices the condition remains the same for bitcointalk while other sites are loading just fine as usual. A possible cause could be a DDOS attack or theymos is making or messing things with the forum.

Same loading is very slow and often even Host: Error. I thought the internet was bad at first but after checking the speed everything is normal after seeing this thread in META means it's true that the forum is messed up.
It's also a little annoying that one click takes more than 30 seconds.

I've been experiencing slowness and connection errors practically all day when trying to connect to bitcointalk  ... I thought the problem was with my connection, I was going to call the company that provides me with internet to complain   , but apparently it seems like it's a problem with the forum... I hope they resolve it soon

just like some members, I haven't experienced the downtime too but the slowness of the forum today is extremely annoying(more annoying than the forum being down), at times it takes around 30-60 seconds before it finishes loading.

Same here, servers are likely overloaded atm.

Many people suspect the internet is the problem.

I assumed at first that there was something wrong with my computer, why is the rest of the internet running smoothly while opening the forum is so slow that even opening a thread or going around many pages must take an unusual amount of time.

I hope in a few hours theymos can solve it.

Looks like every one experienced the slow loading of the forum's pages the same as posting reply but never had faced the downtime errors. It looks like cloudflare got to do something on this too, the checking, everything.

Due to heat now its universal issue because many are facing this issue.
I am also having for several hours now after reading this thread feeling ok because first I was having wired feelings what is going on.

Looks like forum is finally working normally.

You don't really have an idea how hooked you are on something until it stops working properly. And all that is needed to realize that is few hours.

There's a very large DDoS attack going on. I mitigated it for now, but it's too large and sophisticated to be cleanly mitigated; until this stops, the forum will be on-and-off slow and people will have to endure Cloudflare challenges. Such large DDoS attacks are expensive, though.

There could be any reason behind why we experience errors like this from accessing the forum, though i don't think this was the first of its kind, but whenever something like occurs, its either a maintenance related issue or the server connection, we only needed some time to wait while everything gets fixed back to normal, some that comes directly from theymos might be addressed, but obviously, none of these call for any fear about the forum.

Just out of curiosity: do you ever get extortion/ransom requests from the individuals performing these attacks, or are they just for the lulz? Am wondering what's to gain by dedicating resources to make them happen.

They do it for one of two reasons:
- test/refine/show off their capabilities
- attempt to extort money to get the attack to stop

They may also be doing it for ideological reasons, such as because whoever is behind the attack is anti-free speech or anti-crypto.

It seems that these attacks are getting more sophisticated because it took much time for the forum to recover. There are times we experience these timeouts but not as much as today's. The forum is now fast which shows recovery. Well done Theymos.

Next time tell them to start a thread on the forum asking for ransom . The feedback they will receive will make them avoid bitcointalk.org forever. Criminals!!!.

Just like other times, the server do get down at a moment and it will bounce back in due time which it has already done.

I don't think it should be worried over too much because I believe it's not our first or its going to be the last experience, it constantly happens but as long as theymos is still there I don't bother.

Did you mean that these DDOS attacks are constantly happening on the forum, which causes the forum to be down? I actually saw very few times that forum gone to down time due to DDOS attack. And most of the time I saw the down time of the general type.
And here already theymos has mentioned above, this time down time is due to DDOS attack, due to which the forum cannot be accessed easily. Although I thought that in my case this is due to the current situation in my country. But what I came to understand is actually due to DDOS attack.
I am facing this although I'm using VPN to accessing the forum right now.

Everything seems to be back to normal now. At least from my own end, I have been able to browse through the forum just as fast as before with no delay or cloudfire verification to check and prove if one is human or not in every action you want to take in the forum, which was really exhausting.
