I have a friend that is asking me to do Staking Link. I have no knowledge of this field and want peer input. She asked me to go to my Trust wallet app and go to "Discover" on bottom right of app and type in the URLs listed below. When I do so, the URL asks to connect to my wallet.

My questions are:

• How do I confirm validity of the link in terms of Staking Link?
• Is this a scam?
• Rephrasing from above, will I lose my cryptocurrency doing this and connecting to my wallet?
• Any other helpful information is appreciated.

You can search for it and see the one that most sites are referring to. But for you not to make any mistake, you can ask on a forum like this. If you ask on this forum, people will give you the right site.

If it is the right URL, it is not a scam. But as you know, if the site is fake, it is a scam with no two intentions than to steal your coins.

If you connect to the legit site, you will not lose your coins. But if it is a fake site, you will connect your wallet and send the coins to the scammer and your coins would be lost.

You can also Stake some coins without connecting your wallet. All you need is to click on 'earn' on Trust wallet and follow the next step to stake your coins. Worth knowing that Trust wallet is close source and I do not recommend close source wallets.

I personally have never heard or used the website that you mentioned. Since you mentioned that you are using Trust wallet why not use thier staking features. I have in the past staked BNB using Trust wallet which at that time was giving good APY. As of now I am using the Binance exchange earn features to stake BNB.

You should determine first the official website of the DeFi service you are using. If you don’t have enough knowledge about crypto, You can use coinmarketcap or coingecko for list of DeFi website.

I tried to click the site but it shows a QR code and requesting to connect to our wallet it looks like a phishing site and the site loading super slow.

How did you find this site? Weird no one mention this but after checking it on Whois the domain was just registered 2 days ago and hosted on the free Alibaba cloud.

From the display of the site it looks like it's a fake site, and when your web3 wallet interact with that, it's possible that all the balance you have in your wallet will be lost. If I understand correctly, you want to try staking your Chainlink (LINK) right?

Chainlink (LINK) is one of the mainstream cryptocurrencies and many people know about this token, I think you can easily find staking offers on big CEXs like Binance & OKX. You can do your own search for it, but one thing is for sure, stay away from sites that your friends say, maybe they want to trap you.

at this point if you have so much doubt you better off not staking then.

staking is time constrained activity where you put your money at custody and risking it for contract breach or the dev just running away with the money, if you are doubtful in the first place, you won't have peace of mind keeping your money in this platform.
at this point you better off trying to stake with reputable platform. like bybit and binance with their launchpool, or bitget with their poolx (do learn about how they work and the risk first just to be clear) like below picture is an example.



also, there are many ways these scammers can steal your money, connecting wallet and then approving your token to be used by them is also one way of them to steal your money, so always be careful.
many newbies actually fall victim into this scheme, this is why i always back out whenever i think the staking platform is shady, not gonna lose my money to all these scammers.

I can only tell to to be aware of scams once it gets to someone giving you directions on what to go about your wallet especially when you're being directed due to your inability selfly run the operations yourself.
Be mindful of wallet linking too because you can just expose your secret keys or even granting access of your wallet to someone without your notice.

big red flag though, if what you mentioned is true is the absent of social media account or contact support, most of the project I know that decided to have no social media account or contact support usually are the shadiest ones. even the one that supposedly got good backer purposefully didn't leave out contact support or discord channel because they want to prevent people from actually knowing that there might be a problem.

so in a nutshell they don't have such thing because they don't even bother with the project, therefore it's more likely scam.

It is this simple, besides the OP did not really told us from where they know this supposed friend, because if the only interactions they have had with this friend is online, it is entirely possible this is just a scammer that has taken a long term approach with them and they are trying to scam them.

However even if this was not the case and the friend was just a misguided person, the point still stands, as this website looks immensely suspicious and I would not recommend anyone to stake their money there.

Yeah, I agree. As stated previously, all the links that would later be used to connect to your wallet or to connect your wallet to some dApp should be taken seriously and with analysis beforehand. Even if she is a good friend of his, she as well can't know everything and could be scammed but thinks that it would be beneficial for them both to stake on this platform, without taking the risks into account.

No, this is a different female friend I met on social media. We were talking about traveling and meeting up for over a month and then she asked me about liquidity staking pool. The previous female friend was from a dating app from my older post. Unfortunately, I am a crypto newb and that's why I'm asking for community feedback on these links and also include the disclaimer. If you read my posts, I also have a Hashflare and Cryptobridge topic up where I lost a decent amount to both. I have lost large sums to Safemoon and other rug pull altcoins. I am constantly exposed to scammers on dating apps so those I'm more cautious and aware of especially if they ask me to invest or click on links, but this was the first time from social media where I messaged her on Instagram first and she was wary of talking to me at first, but then we got to know each other's growing up history, family, life stories, exchanged younger photos of us with family and growing up, and were making plans to meet up to travel. I did reverse image search the photos to make sure there were no other accounts that had the photos in case she was taking it from their account. I had a sliver of hope that these links were actually legitimate so I wouldn't have to cut ties with them. I'm in no way trying to have people use these links.

Thank you for all the tips, especially on using WHOIS to check registration date is very helpful for future potential scam investigations. I'll also stick with Binance and Coinbase for more reputable staking platforms.

It was a woman from Instagram that I messaged and started getting to know on Instagram and we exchanged photos and videos of us when we were young with our family that were never posted up on social media and made plans to meet and travel together. I did reverse image search the photos to make sure there were no other accounts that had the photos in case she was taking it from their account. I am usually inundated with scammers on dating apps, but I had a sliver of hope that these links were actually legitimate so I wouldn't have to cut ties with them since this was not from a dating app and I messaged them first. The only thing that was slightly better than dating app scammers was that she did not guilt trip me with a common reply of "so you don't trust me?" and then proceed to get *angry*. She stated that she received these links from her friend but she will unstake her crypto from them and move her crypto to a new wallet, then speak with her friend [in person] regarding this.
