Campaigns are expensive and necessary. Their country has 50 states, it cannot be easy to reach all people and try to inform them of why they should be the president. Campaigns also has teams working for them consisting of members from different fields like marketing or some statistics. There’s just so many going on days leading up to the election.

Harris already raised 200 million US dollars from donation which is the biggest anyone’s ever received. She already has much more from Trump and while money does not make you a president, it definitely raises the chances of becoming one.

Look at the desperate ways the Dump is using to make money like selling cheap bibles with pages pre-stuck together or offering permits to big oil for big donations.   K just needs to show off the fact she's not 80.

It is not about running for president in the United States, it is rather about getting visible enough for people to vote for you and stay away from voting the other candidades. I ignore what the budget for an advertisment campaign is, but I assume it is around the tens of thousands of dollars for a well produced set campaign adds. not even taking into account the billboards, the travel expenses and merchandise which is to be made and distributed among supporters.

Anyone can get their name on the ticket or form their own political party, that is not big deal, the big deal starts when one needs to stand up in the crowd. Makes me wonder whether some third parties could have more success had they more donors.

There's big money in it for sure.  Think of all the people who look forward to this event every 4 years so they can use their connections to funnel money to their businesses.  Think of all the candidates hoping to raise funds that they can use to pay friends and family members to work on their campaigns...  For some, it isn't about winning or losing, or even the country.  It's just another way to raise a ton of money that they can dish out to those they seek to gain favors from in the future.

It's incredibly cheap compared to the consequences if Trump is elected.

Trump promises to immediately deport 5% of Americans workers, who contribute tens of billions of dollars in taxes, and whose deportation will disrupt the American economy for a decade. In a 20 trillion dollar economy, the resulting loss of GDP will be in the trillions, not billions.

And on the flip side, Trump and his cronies stand to make hundreds of billions for themselves personally if Trump is elected. Trump would be the first convicted criminal US president, and the first completely lawless presidency we've ever had (even Nixon was not given a specially lawless mandate from voters). Trump could, for instance, create his own crypto and then outlaw Bitcoin in order to pump his own coin, yielding himself hundreds of billions if not trillions.

he chose to put himself up for election and is well compensated for it, he is not a slave

as for the costs of promoting his positions. if there are 131m households in USA and if there is (demo number) $1.3b expenditure on campaigning. its only $20 per household spent on promotional materials/adverts to get 50% vote if everyone voted
its only $40 per household spent on promotional materials/adverts to get 50% vote if half of households voted

in short it only costs <$50 to win a vote
