I have not heard about it in Nigeria before so no way to attend. It would have been nice to organise such event in Nigeria because we should one of the notable community of Bitcoin enthusiasts in the forum. I don't actually know how meetups are organised especially on the aspect of funding because such event will require some logistics. If there is such a move, I will be more than willing to donate to make it happen because it will give me the opportunity to know someone of the people I share a lot in common with even though I don't know them.

I have attended a number of crypto events in Nigeria and I can tell you for a fact that no one wants to disclose how much bitcoin they are holding. Not all of the crypto events I’ve attended were necessarily Bitcoin events because they were sponsored by exchanges or some Defi project. In those events, the center of discussion is usually around the sponsors of the event. If Solana sponsored the event be rest assured that all you’re going to hear is solana and other Defi projects affiliated with Solana.

I value the networking aspect of these events. You get a chance to talk to people from different parts of the country who share similar interests with you and possibly make a connection.

I have added two blockchain meetups in the city of Port Harcourt, one which was hosted by a man like Chris Ani a blockchain consultant in Nigeria and CEO of one Trade Academy, and also another one where someone like Jerry Jackson also hosted all in the city of Port Harcourt.

The meetups are not all about how much someone has in bitcoin holdings, but they were focused on trying to educate people on the relevance of crypto currency in our society and how we can be part of it.
 
For privacy reasons and safety purposes in a country like Nigeria, it's very unwise to start boasting of how much you have in public, as you never can tell who the next man sitting close to you is, as you will be making yourself a public target the moment you declare your holdings public.

I haven't been to any neither have I seen where they hosted such meetings but I have heard a lot about crypto trading/investment learners meetings where they get to disclose various opinions on how to survive in the digital market. I am sure in that kind of meetings there will be some aspects of discussion that will interfere into Bitcoin investment, approaches and the benefits of being part of the Bitcoin market but I doubt if there will be some kind of disclosure of how much they have accumulated, most importantly if they are same professionals they propose to be before hosting the meeting.

I should wonder as well what will be the actual reason as to why attending such meetings, if specifically for Bitcoin then I feel it's an actual waste of time. The forum is a better host that can clarify doubts and further theories and yet all remains anonymous for our own safety reasons.

Bitcoin meet-up is not a place to tell anyone if you have bitcoin or not, it will be done for those hosting it to advertise and sell whatever product that they have and someone new to crypto will learn something, if possible you can have a new friend through socializing.

I don't like going to such places because I always love to keep my involvement in bitcoin a secret from strangers and people that I don't trust for security reasons. Whatever I know about bitcoin was learnt from the day I joined this forum.

Actually this is one scary thing about this kind of meet ups, in as much as people are coming together for networking some are just there for malicious intentions to steal from others and this would be much more better for them from the fact that they can trace such individual to harm/threaten or worst kill them or their loved ones just to get their bitcoin since it will be hard for the law enforcement to trace them.

This is risk is also possible in online, we have seen when victims speak about it online where they were trace from their  social media accounts to their home just to steal their cryptocurrencies.

Though I have missed some physical Bitcoin Meetup around me quite often since I was pretty busy but I don't really feel I missed much since from the risk, though I would loved to listen to other Bitcoiners outside this forum view on wallet Security and the likes

I have not attended one before but if I’m to host one, what I will focus more on is to explain the so many advantages that comes with knowing and learning about bitcoin, it’ll help alleviate some level of dependency on the government on everything. Now I’m pitching the idea of blockchain technology, as it is a new innovation getting known and wide acceptance, the youths can come together to create an enabling and easy free solution to some technical issues we are having in making transactions and make crypto another alternate option to send money and integrate them for companies payment options. It does not have to be a volatile cryptocurrency, risk of volatility can be reduced when it’s centered more on stable coins.

With this method, security, reliability, transparency will be of top notch to the company when delivered well. The Nigerian youths are vast and knowledgeable to set something up like that and they should be encourage to explore all of this options. The government should reconsider the ban on cryptocurrencies in the country, the youths have found a path to freedom of financial bondage through it.

Thanks for the information, one should be more careful when going to seminars like this to know which information to take and dump there or the one to take and bring back home to work on it. Everyone is looking for way to either promote and improve their outreach without minding the authenticity of what they’re inviting people into.

The few times I went to a bitcoin meeting I didn't see anything to account on because most of them weren't saying what I should hear from there. Meeting should be something educative but at least I noticed I wasted my day, time and resources Because I was thinking they would gave me what I am actually expecting to hear. Although they opened the follow to asked question and I threw my question it was very hard for them to answer instead speaker said he would get my answer sent to me on text 🤣. I was like is this how you would want to be hosting people for meeting and last they ends up not gaining anything from the meeting.

I have not been to any Bitcoin hosted event before and the only organized Bitcoin event I have ever learnt which took shape in Nigeria was the Bitcoin pizza day which I could not attend due to distance of the venue.

But If I may ask, what would prompt a social Bitcoin meet up in the first place? Because I know that Bitcoin is not alt coin that users in coming together is to manipulate the crypto markets in evaluating their coin (s) as an avenue for marketing strategies or relevant promotional campaigns.

I think previously bitcoin and blockchain meetups where norms in the town but as the restrictions got much on cryptocurrency, a lot of them stopped and the trading industry took over
I don’t know if with the recent developments in the country, these meetups must have been sprouting up again and personally I’ve attended something like that but can’t remember when specifically but I know all they said wasn’t actually new to me and it seems at the end of the day, they wanted money to register some other attendees as  vip members and the whole thing made me felt I would have stayed back home but atleast I’ve learnt to be very selective on meetups I will be attending in the future.

Is there actually any gathering in the world where people gather just to show off their BTC holdings? This is actually against the ethics of bitcoin in terms of security. But in my country, nothing surprises me.
Has anyone everly attended a meet up people show up their holdings.
What I know that is rampant is people who created Ponzi shit coins and using the bitcoin name to promote their shady projects.

I have attended a Bitcoin meet up in my city but it was because of the pizza day celebration that the meet up was arranged. That day we just dey discuss things about Bitcoin and how we fit help am grow for our different areas. Sha that day it was hosted by an exchange ambassador (I dun forget the name) and they use that opportunity promote the exchange. Bitcoin meetups are no longer much of a thing in Nigeria but I fit remember back then when I dey see adverts for Facebook about meet ups for Abuja and Lagos, I think na the most active sates then be that and next to Port Harcourt.

The only meet ups that are currently happening now isn't Bitcoin focused but mostly for other altcoin projects. The problem is that, nobody is interested anymore in organizing a Bitcoin Meetup if there are no incentives to go along with it. Bitcoin is no longer like one of these altcoin projects that are ready to sponsor such events. That's the narratives that are being pushed today — no incentives, no events or Meetups. This is why we haven't seen bitcoin Meetups lately and also why we won't see in a foreseeable future.

For an official meet up like a symposium I am vivid I haven't attended. There was one I leant was to take place in Lagos sometime last year or so and was open to public attendance, but for personal reasons I made no effort of finding my way there.

I just feel that in a public setting Ike that not everyone comes there with a uniform motive. There are  group that would attend just to identify individuals with bitcoin investment and witch-hunt them. In this part of the world very few persons understands what it means to be a bitcoin hodler, a large portion just believe that you are a rich dude the very moment they know you are into bitcoin. Tryna be extremely cautious against the bad guys who will want to reap where they didn't sow.

I have attended a crypto meetup, but not a meetup for people with only interest in bitcoins. I will be very scared to attend such a meeting currently if I am not sure of the organizers considering the security situation of the country.

It was not worth it, being in this forum was more educative than the meet up. I discovered the organizers just had a target, and they were just introducing themselves as P2P traders, obviously for future benefits.

I have not, but heard of one,but it was only after the event was over I got the information, so I was unable to attend, where Bitcoinners gathered for a wedding party in Bayelsa State last year of a co-bitcoinners'which would have given me the privilege to meet with some of our top leaders in our local forum, but i missed it.
Information are not properly given out , I don't know why ,maybe for security purposes because our government is not friendly with Bitcoin users and does not want to have anything to do with Bitcoin.

This country no go ever change, I never heard about any occasion wey dey gather to discuss something regarding Bitcoin but as you talk this matter so ehn, na the problem wey we dey always get for this naija be that, them go talk say this is what the event go be about but waiting they will come dey talk for there go dey different, I believe say that kind of place them go first discuss about Bitcoin for like 30 minutes then, them go con dey used the remaining minutes discussed some other things to promote waiting go benefit them and forgot why they organize the meeting.
