I hope that one African club will be able to make it to the knockout stage, otherwise, Africa didn't perform well. I was astonished to see how Sundown was able to play with Dortmund to the point of them scoring three goals. Dortmund was lucky, the match would have ended in a draw. Kudos to Sundown.

So far only top teams in each group has qualified to the knockout stage. 8 teams that I know have already qualified. The few African clubs like Al Ahly, Espérance de Tunis, Wydad, and Mamelodi Sundowns are still fighting for a spot in the round of 16, but they still have a chance before this stage is completely over. We should hope at least one or two gets a spot.

I think you are actually wrong here, first of all fluminense and Chelsea are not on the same group, secondly, Chelsea group has already been wrapped up already, it was flamengo RJ that came from behind and beat Chelsea, but that's aside, our African participants in this club world cup has performed terribly bad, I never expected all of them to go out of the competition in this first round, at least they should have gotten into the last 16 of the tournament because by the look of things, mamelodi sundowns will also be knocked out today if they don't stands up to the challenge, I still feels like it was that borussia dortmund game that put them into such a difficult situation, they wouldn't have lost that game if they hadn't switch off when they got the first goal, but let's be hopeful that they can surprise us and beat fluminense today and progress to the next round of the competition.

Yes if we had any home base team in this competition, I believe they will have done way better than what performances these teams has showcased or at least they will qualified from the group stage.
Esperance Tunis to beat Chelsea? that is a very high expectation from your side, The Africa teams don't really have what it takes to win big teams, and Esperance Tunis isn't an exception.

I wish this could happen because looking at the quality of our local leagues,  I don't think these teams had got what it take to contend this top teams at international levels like this, except for luck sometimes  because these players aren't exposed to quality care and training enough to keep them ready to contend at such level. Esperance Tunis is very much likely not to beat Chelsea, I mean for me it's one in which expectations in that direction shouldn't even be something to consider.

Remember Chelsea didn't have a really smooth season in the just concluded season and so giving their best in this tournament is something they will literally do everthing for. Teams like this for them is such that they will use to gain chances to the top where they probably get to contend the bigger teams so they will not risk this game . Anyways I'm not going to completely write off Tunis because I'm hopeful they get lucky.

Yeah, you are correct. Fluminense and Chelsea aren't in the same group. I mistook Flamengo for Fluminense; that was why I said that Mamelodi Sundowns would find it difficult to beat Fluminense. Lol, is it not better you say Rivers United instead of Enymba FC. So far Rives United is the only team in the NPL I trust to perform better across any international competitions. They have good players and a very good coach too. In the meantime, there is no hope for any African team to qualify because it is almost impossible for Malmelodi Sundowns to win Fluminense who is topping the group F.  Whoever wins today will be the team to qualify automatically while Fluminense will top Dortmund with goal points and qualify.

I was happy when I saw that it was teams from North and South Africa that represented the continent since they have more advanced facilities and better financing.  But it seems that there is still more room for improvement. Our representatives put up some encouraging displays, but they can do better in the next edition of the FIFA World Cup games.

Our African side, even for countries with progressive facilities, is not keeping pace very well with the world of football. How we lost in the opening round, no team from our continent was able to compete against others, we can be advancing with technology, but it takes a lot more to compete with the rest of the world.

We all feel the same way too. It can get better once we prioritize it. I will repeat it again that we cannot compare the budget for sports and development in African countries with that of high performing countries in the other parts of the world. Just recently, one of Nigeria's top track and field female athletes signed her allegiance to Turkey(don't know if this confirmed yet) but it boils down to the same issue of funding and the "anyhowness" that is characteristics of what we have over here.

I can’t but to believe and also to wait that such a day will come when all of us will be very happy to see our own very NPFL teams make it to this FIFA Club World Cup even though it may not look likely to happen now because of how poorly this teams are funded and their level of enthusiasm to struggle and make it this far has been shattered or reduced. This FIFA Club World Cup gives room for all clubs in the world to showcase their best talents and compete for the top amongst each other. As the competition is going now, I won’t be surprised if a team from Europe do not win the trophy.

Without bias I'd say that European leagues are way ahead of leagues in other continents especially Africa, they're very organized and more lucrative. African clubs have quite a long way to go if they want to compare with clubs in Europe, and America. Although I'm quite impressed with the performances of African representatives in this year's club world cup, but there's room for improvement and I know that they will keep getting better. Other regions of Africa, need to learn from north and south of the continent and improve their domestic leagues.

Among all the African teams that came to this competition, it was mamelodi sundowns that did well the most  among them all, where their short comings came from which they paid for it in this final game against fluminense is that game against borussia dortmund that they lost, it was a game they shouldn't have lost, and I wasn't surprised at all for them not to be able to beat this fluminense side because the Brazilian team are actually good.
All the African teams have been knockout from their respective groups which is not a good one especially for African football, but that's what it is, they will all now goes back to the drawing board and re-strategize hoping to come back in the next edition of this tournament .

You make it look as if Dortmund are the only ones that had a busy schedule last season and let's see it this way, if they have been busy and being active like you said, what are they going to say this was their achievement for being busy last season? We have the likes of PSG, Madrid, Man City even Bayern Munich, all these guys had a very busy season last campaign but when they play you still feel that difference compared to how they played last season like an improvement but for Dortmund is like they are stagnant, always performing poorly especially against a side they can beat without stress, is annoying.
Mamelodi Sundowns wasn't at their best if am to be honest and the Fluminense didn't attack much compared to their last game, it was as if they came for the draw which was a perfect plan and the Sundowns felt for their trick, it was hold the ball, attack less and defend more, that was how I saw it with Fluminense yesterday so it wasn't a good display at some point for the Mamelodi Sundowns. At half time they could have calm themselves down and get something because if you check between both teams, it was the Sundowns that was operating under pressure, they allowed the Brazilian side to dominate the game mentality even before getting into the pitch.

It's settled now and unfortunately, Mamelodi Sundowns couldn't make it to the round of 16th in the ongoing FIFA club World Cup. Mamelodi Sundowns played a goalless draw with Fluminese yesterday night and missed their chances to qualify for the knockout stage. Fluminese finished ahead of them with just one point to make it to knock out stage. This tournament is just full of wonders and crazy things and I won't talk down on our African brothers but instead commend their participation and hope the do better next time. Fc Porto and Athletico Madrid are out too in the tournament so it's not a big deal.

I think you don't need to say Borussia Dortmund doesn't deserve to be in the round of 16 because Mamelodi Sundowns dominated Fluminense and had a lot of chances needed to take the lead, but they were waiting to enter Fluminense's 18-yard box before they could attempt to score a goal, which they found difficult to do, and it made them not score a goal against Fluminense. If Mamelodi Sundowns had attempted to score a goal outside Fluminense's 18-yard box, maybe they would have been lucky enough to get a goal against Fluminense and proceed to the next stage of the Club World Cup tournament, and there's no way you will feel bad about why Borussia Dortmund qualified in the round of 16.

Mamelodi Sundowns tried to always press deep but they forgot that these guys, Fluminense are only seeking for a draw, like you said that they should have tried a shot from outside, true but I feel they don't have it in them to take those outside shots and they felt it would be easier to cause the damage in the 18 yard box of the Brazilian side. That's the difference between the both teams, if it was Fluminense that was desperate in need of a goal or the 3pt to qualify I believe they would have switched their style of play to get at least a goal.
You see Dortmund, they have all it takes to be one of the best but they are always playing as if they are not suppose to be in any serious competition, these guys need to change their mode of play to something different from what we have seen if not if they continue this way I don't see them progressing in the champions league next season, they are no different from Atletico Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund players have been active playing football since last year, and they have not had enough rest after their league ended, and they start playing in the Club World Cup tournament, so it's normal that Borussia Dortmund won't perform well in the Club World Cup tournament because Borussia Dortmund players are tired and they need to rest. Even though Borussia Dortmund didn't win anything to show that they had a busy schedule, that is not enough reason for you to deny the fact that Borussia Dortmund had a busy schedule.
