Right now the person value in society is based on how wealthy they are and what they own and how much that costs what they own.

If you say that money is the root of evil that means that it's a necessary evil that we can not avoid if we want to survive in this world. There's a price tag for everything and you have to afford what you want to get it. Although I wouldn't call money that is earned in a genuine way through hard work evil because the person didn't steal it or involve in any evil acts to get it. Money is called the root of evil because there are many people that will do anything to make money and it doesn't matter if they kill, rob, blackmail, cheat or bear false witness just to get money.

Greed and selfishness are part of human nature that leads to evil acts but it takes intergrity and contentment to overcome them. Money being called root of evil is a figure of speech, it doesn't mean that you're evil when you hold and make more money. It becomes evil when you let the lust of money to control you and makes you to do anything possible to make it.
