To avoid issues, you can make use of a payment processor that accepts bitcoin. There are many of them. You can check their list from the link below.

Bitcoin Payment processors

When I want to pay for an online service, I have used one or two of them before which the site displayed me to use for the payment.

I would like to mention Cryptomus.com as another payment processor. Their ANN, although the OP is asking about challenges about integrating a payment processor. Once I used btcpay server, it looked simple to me.

OP, i saw your other thread which promote certain service. If you ask this question because you want accept Bitcoin on that service, there are things you should consider.
1. If you only care about convenience and don't mind 3rd party hold the coin, most cryptocurrency payment gateway should do the task.
2. If you want to hold received coin, use something like Coinbase Commerce where you only share your master public key or address with them.
3. If you want to self-host/self-manage the Bitcoin payment gateway, consider BTCPay.

Hi, what are the biggest hurdles you’ve faced when integrating Bitcoin payments? If you could share your solutions and advice, that would be really interesting!
Here are a couple of them if you'll be relying on a payment gateway/processor:

  • Some processors come with geo-blocking, so the only way to lift that restriction for your customers is by using multiple processors [most popular platforms already do this].
  • When most of the payments in your platform are considered microtransactions and you have to deal with a congested network, a processor that also supports lightning would come in handy.

Bitcoin is a royal fork

I haven't integrated Bitcoin payments ever, but I'm sure that you'd find it quite tough to install a maintain a self-custodial Bitcoin payment processor. BTCPay is, by far, the best choice in terms of complexity, but for example, lightning integration would require from the merchant to run their own LN node and manage channels.

(Mentioning this, because if you're going to accept Bitcoin in 2024, you should have a LN option as well.)

Thanks for sharing the list of Bitcoin payment processors! It's definitely a good option to have multiple payment methods available, especially for users who prefer cryptocurrencies. Do you have any experience with a specific processor from the list that you'd recommend based on ease of integration or reliability?

Some people posted their experiences on this forum. You can search them with keywords such as "BTCPayserver" or any other services listed on that thread. Most of the time people have issues with setting up the payment integration afaik. As for reliability, I think it depends on what you mean by that. If that refers to running the payment gateway 24/7, then it would depend on whether you run it on your own device or use an online service to run them. Maybe you can move this discussion to the Service Discussion boards if you want to discuss this further.

A tale as old as Bitcoin is trying to juggle the privacy aspect with ease of use and legal requirements. If you want privacy, you are going to complicate the way things work as it stands today. You are required to understand and use Coin Control from Bitcoin Core (or whatever allows you to do this in your wallet) as well use third party services to mix the coins. This adds the problem of the legal aspect: As you add privacy, KYC exchanges (which is where most people send their coins when they want to sell) may end up in problems as they unfairly blacklist certain addresses. Governments may come up with increasingly tyrannical laws against privacy.

So in order to integrate Bitcoin payments, it has to be easy, fast, cheap and private. LN claims to find a good balance with this but I have not used this yet let alone trying to integrate this in any capacity in a service.

Considering your questions, you probably should choose one that needs no technical knowledge.

You should look for costs of the many services listed there and fees when converting to your local currency.

All of those services from that  list should be reliable,  as OmegaStarScream is an active member which will keep the list updated and remove potential bad services.

Coinbase commerce is definitely a good option if you prefer the convenience and ready to pay 1% fee which is the avg fee on most of the third party payment processors.

But you can be more specific about what kind of needs that can make it possible to make your own wallet instead of using 3rd party or simple QR code of your BTC address or LN if you want to go with instant payment modes.

Lots of options as per our needs just like any other sector and all we need is basic understanding of navigating the platform.

My challenge is in directing people to get to the checkout page.  Sad

If you want to get all kinds of cryptocurrencies as payments and get all the coins in your wallet instantly without any custody then use Cryptomus or Hoodpay. They also support CC-to-crypto.

If you want Lightning Network support then use LND and BTCPayServer.

There's almost no reason to use any of the other processors unless you want what they call "clean coins".
