Where there'll be a problem is if the loser can not afford the bet or don't have money to buy drinks or whatever they bet on.

This part often becomes the problem and that can make or mar cordiality in friendship. I've witnessed a friendly bet degenerate into a scuffle and then fight that led to one getting hospitalized. It's terrible. For me, I don't like money betting of such among friends. I rather gamble with machines than physical people. With friends, it's a no-no for me. I can do betting with mere words but not cash with friends. It prevents bad blood resulting from losing.

I literally don't watch matches that i stake a bet on because no matter how you try to control your emotions, you will still end up getting emotional because let's assume you placed team A to win and team B is pressuring team B and even making more attempts at the opponents keeper, each shot they strike will make your heart skip and you start breathing faster especially if you staked a huge bet on the game and I don't even advice people to watch matches they Stake a bet on. However, if you are really gambling for fun and not be too inquisitive on the bet you placed on a particular team, you can watch the match and not get emotional regardless of the outcome but let's be more realistic, only few gamblers can watch a match they Staked a bet on conveniently without being concerned about the results afterwards.

There's something about the excitement with betting and watching  football games with friends, it's just inexplicable and it can lead to you out of much excitements with the friendly arguments gambling away more money than you will do ordinarily if you were doing it alone. This normally happens when we fail to control our emotions in the middle of the fun.

Ha, I and my friends do the same. Watching  favorite teams in the pub we are betting on them and the winner pay the drinks ^{(probably in your case the payer is the looser but it doesn't matter).}. My  winning friends never thought that it such a big deal to pay for others in the case they win. Betting on soccer matches, live in pubs and watching further developments is really exciting for me and my friends.

Definitely a bet that you do not know that you may win or lose yet will get your heart racing while watching such a match. I do not think people are different about this. I definitely feel more invested and interested in a game when there is some money on the line. It's a little bizarre but I guess part of human nature, we all want to reassurance or even pride from being able to predict more accurately than other people. There's also money riding on it, which could potentially mean an additional bonus paid out to you when the game is concluded. I've seen this same peaked interest in friends and think that the joy of winning still overcomes the small pang when you lose.

TBH, I can't relate to what OP has shared since it's soccer and I'm not watching that sport, but I have an almost similar experience with basketball though.

As for my experience, there are no bets whatsoever. It's just we are excited to watch the whole Game 7 Finals game and we are on different sides. What's the atmosphere in our room while watching it? We are very noisy that our neighbors shouted at us. I mean if you're watching your favorite team playing in a Finals game and it's a close one, it really is very entertaining. Of course it's my story so my team won , but my team really won and even though there's no bet, we've enjoyed watching it.

I would love to watch and bet with sports with somebody but unfortunately, there's nothing aside from me that's an avid fan of watching sports (particularly basketball).

If we feel that way, it means we’re enjoying what we’re doing. It’s true that we should only gamble what we can afford to lose, but if the amount is too small and it doesn’t excite us anymore, then there’s no real sense in gambling. We gamble because it’s part of our entertainment, and while we know there’s a risk of losing, with proper bankroll management and control of our emotions, it won’t frustrate us since we understand the risks from the start.

Any bet, even a small one, changes the perception of a sports match. Joking bets with friends on what the loser of the bet will pay for drinks and snacks (an erroneous prediction of the outcome of the event) adds an extra element of entertainment and strengthens social ties (or completely breaks them, if your friend has to pay too much ).

You can make micro bets and try to "measure" how lucky you are, and then move on to larger bets. So to speak, to practice.

This experience is really a fun one honestly, there have been times i have ben with a friend of mine who is an arsenal fan and this has been our habit whenever we are seeing an arsenal game, we make mild bets on certain players having a goal by the end of the game and then we make light of the whole thing and if he losses or i lose, neither of us make a deal of it because we were jus having fun and that's all that matters to us but then for some others its different but i advise if this doesn't work for you, don't try having fun in a way you don find suiting enough as it may not work for you because it did for some other person.

Watching soccer without betting on anything is fun and exciting. There is no time it has ever been boring without betting. Just that betting adds more excitement to it and it makes each on pick a favorite of who will win and have more motivation to win in the game. The only reason why people go as far as betting while watching football games is either they want to double their money or see who is the best. The fun of watching the game when you bet is always high due to the thrill and anxiety compared to when you are just watching the match without staking any money. I don't bet with my friends but we do watch the matches together during weekends because we bet on the games. It is good to watch the game that you are betting on so that you can have more experience to make your predictions if you are betting on the same club when next they are playing.

Betting with our friend will be fun if they don't think too serious with the match. That is just part of having fun with them and I don't mind to bet with them just for a drink. Yes, as long as it's for entertainment, I think they will accept the result and will not complaint if they lost their money.

But when I start betting and holding on to one of the teams, the power is sometimes just directed at how the points will appear and whether luck is on my side. I forgot to enjoy the game, but was more busy imagining the final result of the gamble.

Ofcourse watching the match with a friendly bet as you called it will be more exciting. Most times I play sports in order to have exciting watching it. When I must have staked something for a particular team to win, will I have the excitement to watch the match in an extraordinary way.

This doesn't happen always. Most times, I don't need anything to motivate me because the intensity and atmosphere of the match itself is thrilling. But betting and having fun with friends hits differently.

I play bets, but I also enjoy games and can enjoy a game without betting on it. While learning to gamble I made sure to condition myself in that manner so that I will not be under the pressure to want to bet whenever there is a game. Any gambler who cannot enjoy a sporting event without betting on it for instance football game will become addicted very easily because on some weeks where there are lots of international games or competitions like the Champions League during the weekdays or the European competitions they will be forced to gamble during the weekdays and also gamble during the weekends, and that will mean gambling all through the week. If a gambler does this for a certain period, there is no way they will stop themselves from becoming addicted gamblers.
