Hello crypto enthusiasts,

You may have easily guessed from the title of my post that I want to know two things here.
   •First of all:
I have seen many members in the forum who are not able to access their accounts and the accounts have been hacked. There are many others who are unable to access their account due to their correct password i.e. they have forgotten those passwords. Here my question is how to keep password safe so that we don't forget it.
  •Secondly:
How to activate 2FA on the account? I have heard in various articles and youtube that enabling 2FA on account makes account much more safe and secure. There are simple methods for beginners that they can learn it easily from there.

I sincerely hope to answer your questions.

1. Use open source password managers e.g. Bitwarden, Keepass, Passbolt etc. If you worried with hack, you can post your Bitcoin address and sign a message, post it here Stake your Bitcoin address here. So, you can prove your ownership in the future if your account has been compromised.

2. Profile > Account Related Settings > Check "Enable two-factor authentication?" and scan the barcode or input the base32 manually on your 2FA apps > Fill the OTP code > Change Profile.

The security of your account must be created by yourself that is when creating an account in your forum, the passwords must be strong and they must be stored safely. Accounts are usually hacked as a result of password theft. Many of us have a tendency to try to memorize passwords so that they suddenly forget them and are no longer able to access their accounts. If we leave this habit and write the passwords on paper or in a notebook, it can be the right thing for us.

Just as we should use strong passwords to keep our accounts safe, 2FA security system should also be activated in the account. Thinking about the security of the account, the administor of the bitcointalk forum has already launched 2FA. You can use or enable it in your account if you want. Also there was already a post earlier in this thread about how newbies should enable the 2FA security system on their accounts, maybe you could have seen that easily by scrolling down a few pages. Note the two posts below to activate 2FA in the account;

I think you should edit your topic. I believe you meant to write "bitcointalk account" and not "bitcoin account". In addition to the other replies, some of the safety rule I have kept is to connect my account to an email address. Having an email address connected to your account makes it less likely to be hacked especially if you have activated authentication on your email. Also, I hide the email address from the public. In addition, there is also a security question and answer. You choose a question and provide the answer so that in the event of hack, if the hacker can't answer the question, it is possible that they can't take over the account. Last but not least - inactive and dormant account have a higher probability of getting hacked, therefore, be active on the forum.

Bitcointalk account or other account I am the guardian of the security of my account. No one else is responsible for the security of your account but can advise you on how to keep the account secure. Many people may use passwords that they later forget. To avoid such mistakes, when creating an account, use a password that is easy to remember or write down the password in a notebook for added security. If it can be written down in the notebook, then there will be no problem later, even if the password is forgotten, the password can be collected from the notebook and entered into the ID. But the notebook in which the password is written must be protected.

But you can enable OTP (On Time Password) to keep the account more secure or safe. If you can keep OTP enabled then your account will be more safe or secure. Admin @theymos sir has introduced OTP system for account security and already @AirtelBuzz mentioned it through his link. From there you can check. Please see and hope this will be very easy for you to understand and you will be able to activate OTP on your account very easily later.

I am lost, what is Bitcoin account? Do you mean a Bitcoin account that belongs to a centralised exchange and then borrowed out to you? Because even with passwords and 2FA, that wallet address isn't even yours to begin with, the private key belongs to the centralised exchange.

If somehow you forget your password you can get it back by requestion for a password change, and a link will be sent to your email address you used to create the account from the beginning.

Activating the 2FA code on this forum is the same thing as activating 2FA security everywhere else, the settings is under your account profile settings, copy and paste the code into a 2FA app and fill the OTP, viola.

To protect your account, use strong passwords and change them often. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for extra security. Regularly check your accounts for unusual activity.

I have mentioned bitcointalk account here due to my typing mistake it is only written as bitcoin account.

I think you should edit your topic. I believe you meant to write "bitcointalk account" and not "bitcoin account".
Yes you are right I have already edited the topic.

It is true that strong passwords are important to keep your account properly secure. But as you mentioned, I don't agree that it needs to be changed often. Is changing the password the best way to keep the account safe or is it the best way to save it in the right place?

To protect your account, use strong passwords and change them often.
If you use a strong password, you normally don't need to change it often. I don't like this mantra of false security by often changes. If your security is already that low that you have to fear malware and keyloggers, there are more urgent issues to fix first.

It also helps to retain access to the email address used for registration, because with access to that email account you can easily reset your password in case you forgot it. This email account of course needs to be equally well protected.

My general advise would be to use a decent password manager (long and random passwords are best) and avoid using an OS that is per se a large target due to its large market share. So: avoid using Windows.

Humans are bad at chosing and memorizing good and strong passwords, therefore a decent password manager helps a lot. Sure, it's then a single point of failure but the time invested to protect it is better than using and often also re-using weak and bad passwords.

In addition to what other people have posted

What that is very important or mostly important that you should do on this forum is to stake your bitcoin address. You can stake your bitcoin address here:

Stake your Bitcoin address here

Also avoid PM from people that will send you a fake Bitcointalk link.
Alot of scam and account hack attempts were made in the past and truly the best way to secure your forum account is by staking your wallet address and sure I haven't made an update in my wallet address submission recently so yeah thank you for sharing this comment it serves as a reminder to me and I really appreciate that, I have received such pm on the past and when I click the link, it shows me to log in and by looking at that page I discovered that it was a phishing attempt.

I reported the user who sent the pm and when I took a look at his trust rating, I discovered that he has several red tags for the offense already, so at that point I released that he has been doing that for long, which is why it is very important to stake your Bitcoin wallet in case of such.

Here my question is how to keep password safe so that we don't forget it.

First thing is to make use of 2FA in other to avoid the security bridge of others having access to your account easily, another thing is to stake your bitcoin address here on the forum, third advise am going to give is by you realizing on how you could safely secure your password through a means that will not create a loopholes on you or later serve a security threat, then know that using the  online platforms for storing your login password is a bad idea.

 •Secondly:
How to activate 2FA on the account? I have heard in various articles and youtube that enabling 2FA on account makes account much more safe and secure. There are simple methods for beginners that they can learn it easily from there.

This is very simple, just go through your profile, then under account related settings, you will discover the option for 2FA and then you check on the button on it to activate it and follow other prompt procedures after it.

You need to understand that bitcointalk does not support 2FA to the security measures rather than emails privacies and high level of passwords.
Accounts being succeeded to hack in the platform could be  caused by clicking malicious links and profiles private settings reveals which may give hints to hackers to manipulate your account.

Here my question is how to keep password safe so that we don't forget it.
It's no different from any other password you use online. You have to come up with your own method of creating secure passwords that will remain in your head. If your memory isn't good, then use a quality, open-source password manager.

It is true that strong passwords are important to keep your account properly secure. But as you mentioned, I don't agree that it needs to be changed often. Is changing the password the best way to keep the account safe or is it the best way to save it in the right place?
Changing passwords from time to time is a good security practice. It helps keeping you safe if there is a security incident and leak that involves an old password of yours. It's worse if your current password (that you never changed) leaks. Obviously, you shouldn't reuse the same password on other sites and services because you are increasing the risk of losing much more if just one becomes vulnerable.

Regularly changing passwords isn't mandatory. If it's a unique and strong password, then it remains like that even after 1 day/week/year. Still, the information in the paragraph above remains valid and is an extra security step.

I think that's a very safe one. Having your email address which was connected to the bitcointalk community on 2FA is very vital. Perhaps it's should be your account recovery contact Incase you lost your bitcointalk passwords and activating the private secret questions to recover your emails.
So it's wise to keep your connected contacts secured without afflicting it to other network for safety sake of your bitcointalk account.
Also, writing down your passwords in a safe place could help getting reach to your account in case of lost of passwords.

You need to understand that bitcointalk does not support 2FA to the security measures rather than emails privacies and high level of passwords.
What are you talking about? Stop spreading false information! By end of 2023 theymos announced that 2FA has been added as an option for everybody to secure his bitcointalk account: 2FA added

It is highly recommended to use this option. I also highly recommend to enable 2FA for your email account that is associated with your bitcointalk account. I would enable 2FA for every important account where possible. It's not the magic bullet, but makes stealing accounts way harder.

If you ever may need to recover your bitcointalk account, you should properly stake a bitcoin public address that you control and/or stake a PGP/GPG key properly. There are topics for this, find them, read them, act accordingly.

Activate 2FA for email account is important for the forum account security.

If an account was registered with a non-existing email, it's time for change. Read theymos' advice on it. It's possible to use non existing email address to register an account, but in security, it's bad.

If you don't want to set an email address, use something like yourUserName@invalid.bitcointalk.org; don't use a random nonsense email like y@x.com, since somebody might create that domain/email.

Because your old email didn't exist, somebody could've registered your non-existent email address and used that to steal your account.

Here my question is how to keep password safe so that we don't forget it.
Don't try to remember all your passwords, this is impossible to do and human memory is not reliable.
Instead you can use some open source password managers like KeePass and remember only master password.
Than you can use KeePass to generate and save strong password.

How to activate 2FA on the account? I have heard in various articles and youtube that enabling 2FA on account makes account much more safe and secure.
It's more important not to click on any links you receive from other members in PM.
Remember to save backup of 2FA if you are using it, KeePass can also be used for this.
