Can ETH surpass BTC?

I thought this discussion already come to an end long ago, why is it still up here when it is very obvious that Ethereum can never be above bitcoin in anything; adoption, market cap, use cases. This can continue to go on for a decade from now but I haven’t seen any potential still that will make Ethereum surpass bitcoin yet. You should look more into the bull and bear market, you’ll find a lot of answers to your questions and you don’t need to bring any proof to back up anything you’re saying here. It is fact already that bitcoin is the top cryptocurrency and no coin can ever surpass it in anything as far as we know.

People still believe that eth will pass bitcoin. The majority of these questions are deliberate, and I don't believe they require answers because it is clear that it will take something miraculous for eth to pass bitcoin, but people refuse to accept it. This is also clear in terms of price; look at the price difference eth is not even a quarter of the price of bitcoin, as we can all see. People still want to dispute. And even years to come nothing will happen and bitcoin is able to withstand more heat from the market than eth just that eth can also survive but bitcoin will determine the faith of so many coins.

The idea comes from bitcoin and their is a lot of value in it and if anything should happen to bitcoin then the entire crypto world will be destroyed am certain of that, bitcoin is what gives people trust to invest in other alternative coins so without bitcoin, no coin will survive so and that is bitcoin is given a lot of respect because they know what is controlling it.

Honestly, surpassing BTC will be impossible for ETH.
ETH is certainly a huge network and it is one of the most decentralized network and also include so many utilities.
But, BTC's symbolic for Crypto space cannot be overtaken by any other project and there is no other better crypto than BTC unfortunately.

Indeed, Bitcoin is convincing with all its trust, it is an important thing to ensure and help you maintain privacy, even so it is difficult for ETH to reach like Bitcoin even though people predict that Bitcoin will shift, but I think predicting the crypto market is very difficult to do.

Expecting this doesn't really bring anything. I am one of those people who believes that if BTC goes under the top rank, there will be a terrible situation for crypto. We are not going to just have ETH going up and breaking over BTC, that will not be possible without some trouble in the entire crypto world and the result would be overall marketcap of entire crypto world going down as well.

We are living large and relaxed all thanks to bitcoin leading us there, and it has even ETF's now, so we should not be really considering BTC to drop to anyone, it should always stay at the top. They might grow together, and even a bit more for ETH since it has room to grow before it gets close to bitcoin, but that's about it and nothing more.

I am sure not that likely by anyone's estimates. The reality is bitcoin is too strong, and right now it's dominating a lot of crypto market, when you say crypto, people think of bitcoin and that is an important aspect of this.

This is why we need to be careful when we are dealing with other coins, doesn't matter if we are talking about ETH or anything else, the reality is the bitcoin rank will not change, it will always stay at the top. This is why we need to be careful and this is why we need to do better.

I hope to do better on the long run, and I believe we have that possibility to do it as well as we possibly could. This means we need to focus on what we can get with what we have, and all other altcoins needs to learn their place as well. This doesn't mean we will fail or anything, just means we are going to face some issues along the way, and this is why we need to do better on the long run, and focus on those coins within themselves without checking bitcoin.

I'm starting to believe that Ethereum could eventually surpass Bitcoin as the top cryptocurrency, especially given its strong ecosystem and the recent reduction in gas fees(Is this a rumour).

Eth has been in a systemic decline to BTC, and is now at a 3 year low to BTC. Its performed terribly. Party is over, and it only really performed for one cycle (as most alts do).

I'm afraid so. Competition is getting tough these days, with new smart contract platforms proving to be superior in terms of performance and cost-efficiency. Solana rose all the way to glory at a faster rate than Ethereum. Slowly but surely, ETH's market share will continue to decline until it becomes history. Even Uniswap (the DEX with the most trading volume on the market) is considering moving away from the ETH blockchain into a L2 chain of its own. How would ETH surpass BTC this way? It will not happen now nor in another century. ETH fanboys are being too optimistic.

I think ETH is fine just the way it is. As long as it's a viable BTC alternative, nothing else matters. ETH can remain the #2 coin in market cap, and still be successful. I sure hope ETH goes back to its decentralized roots before it's too late. With Vitalik behind, what can go wrong?

It will be difficult for something like this to happen to Bitcoin, because Ethereum is still under the Bitcoin which Bitcoin team are still doing wonderful work to make sure Bitcoin continue to top other cryptocurrencies. What you think is not possible in cryptocurrencies market, it will surprise you in the future which anything can happen that will make Ethereum to takeover the top position but it will take a long time, because what investors are experiencing from Bitcoin during the bullish season, Ethereum investors are experiencing little of it in the bullish season. Ethereum Will still be maintaining good position among all the cryptocurrencies but for Ethereum to  grow higher above Bitcoin now, I don't think it will happen now, because the  gap is too high for Ethereum to break easily to overtake Bitcoin.

The space is volatile and the earlier we start expecting heavy losses and profits on our paths, the better. What do you think will make ETH surpass BTC? The factors are not likely negotiable because Bitcoin ranks first and there's absolutely nothing anyone can do to hook up ETH with the current price value of Bitcoin. It's complex and we should be quite aware how the space do exert their operative circuits. Ethereum and Bitcoin are more like two pairs in cryptocurrency, they work hand in hand when it comes to the big bulls in the dips which is not always friendly for most investors and traders.

just like recent rally and dump, when BTC rallied so high, ETH stay around $2700 and when BTC dumps again, ETH magically also dump, even the price decrease surpasses BTC, which is kinda crazy TBH, I don't expect a coin that perform like this to surpass BTC anytime soon.

Ethereum is a strong cryptocurrency, but doesn't have enough potential to overcome Bitcoin. Its main usage consists in giving developers the opportunity of launching their own tokens inside ETH network, turning Ethereum into a really popular altcoin, but only for speculative reasons. The trust Bitcoin has built along the years, even inside mainstream investors' niches is incomparable to everything seen in crypto sphere so far.

Every new bull run we heard rumours about ETH going to surpass Bitcoin in influence, but it never happens for real. I believe we are going to end up with a lot of people who expect bitcoin to be not at number one eventually. The main reason for this is the fact that they were too late to bitcoin, remember, this currency went from being a few cents, to being 70k+ at peak, what other coin could give you that type of return?

It's obvious that tokens may, and most tokens are in ETH or other layer 1p projects. So, what we are seeing is a hate towards bitcoin that they are too late for it, and love for a thing that they could make money from as well. Like if you invested into some memecoin on SOL, then increasing price of SOL could potentially help you as well, these are all the reasons why people want some other things to be great now instead of bitcoin.

BTC already has a few L2 projects built on top of it. One of them is Stacks and it's quickly gaining traction. It aims to bring the best of both worlds right into the Bitcoin blockchain. You will get the smart contract capabilities of ETH with all of the added security benefits of Bitcoin. All of the buzz is on Solana right now. But that won't last for long. Especially as people move on to the next big thing in crypto.

Stacks could get hyped as it rises all the way to glory. This will leave ETH dusting in the corner. I agree with you that core Ethereum developers need to do something. They need to increase on-chain transaction capacity if they want to help prevent ETH from losing  market share. The much-awaited Danksharding protocol upgrade aims to fix this.

With an increase in TVL, ETH could solidify its position on the market. Otherwise, rivals like Solana, TON, and Stacks will "eat its cake". No matter how far ETH goes, there's no denying BTC will stay at the top forever. "You can't beat the real thing".
