This is really not a big deal, but it is one of those things that takes an extra second or two of my time whenever I want to leave someone merit. 98% of the time I spend on this site is on my phone these days, and having to tap in the merit box and move the cursor to the right side and then delete the zero takes some time. If thousands of people are doing this regularly, it could be quite a waste of man hours. I thought I complained about this before but maybe not so I’m bringing it up (possibly again).
Why does the merit field pre-populate with a zero? Is this needed? Couldn’t it be left blank? Is everyone deleting this zero every time they leave merit like I am?

Oh yeah,
I’ve seen that a couple of times while trying to send some merits and I always had to delete the zero to input whatever merit I hope to send. Of course I can always put it in the front and the zero behind makes no meaning even but, it often awakes my human consciousness that, it’s better not having to see it at all, let alone make the mistake of sending out 10merits which I just don’t have, ain’t no merit source.
It would make a lot of sense getting that out eventually, you don’t find many people having that integer in meriting. If need be, am sure most users would find the time to input and send.

Perhaps powerglove himself also discussed this and made some suggestions in this thread A small merit-sending UI tweak But basically I don't think he had solved it yet. So it's not a new complaint, lots of people suggested different solutions but it hasn't been considered maybe it's not a big deal. |

I thought it was blank but I check it now and saw that you are right. I did not see it as an issue but some merit sources that want to send merit to many people or many posts may find it annoying. It is there like it is not there for me, probably because the rate I am sending merit is low.

When the input box is clicked I think it can either place cursor on either right or left depending on your click position but it might be frustrating when you have to shift the cursor sometimes, thus if cursor is placed at the end using two digit will still be like a single digit but getting used to that might lead to making mistakes... LoyceV is a living testimony  . I will also agree to the blank space... |

A quick scan of that thread doesn’t show my name anywhere but I’m fairly certain I’ve commented on a thread about this in the past. I wonder if it is a more difficult change than one would expect. If blank is not an option for some reason, even having it populate with a 1 would be a huge benefit for me. I can lock this thread if people think this discussion has already been had and is not needed to be discussed. |

If you want to send any merit less than 10, you can let the zero number there, and type 1, 2, to 9, you will have 01, 02, to 09, and when you click on Send, it works, I test it by sending 1 merit to your post with the format of 01. If blank is not an option for some reason, even having it populate with a 1 would be a huge benefit for me.
It will work for you and most people because it saves their time to enter number 1, and most merit transactions are with 1 merit. It still doesn't work for some people and we will continue having complains like "I would like to experience how Merit works, click on Merit, see 1 in the box and I click on send by mistake and I lose 1 merit". Such complains are unavoidable and I think in one of three options raised by PowerGlove, the blank box is my favorite choice. |

I think some people just leave the zero there (as in, as long as you're entering something after it, then it's a harmless prefix, but, that habit also leads to the mistake of sometimes being on the wrong side of the zero, and then accidentally sending 10 times more merit than you intended). I agree that this whole issue is an annoyance worth fixing (especially because any one of the alternative fixes that I outlined here would take theymos nearly no time at all to do). Looking at that topic again, I think I like approach C the best (that is, changing value="0" to placeholder="0"). (Reading that topic, all the way through, I feel my blood pressure climbing, because I don't think people realize just how easy it is to convince theymos to sleep on something until it falls off his radar completely. I mean... just... man this is frustrating. It's so, so very simple to change value="0" to placeholder="0", which would fix this issue and be a strict improvement. So, why I decided to entertain/indulge all of the bikeshedding that took place in that topic is actually a little beyond me: all it likely accomplished is to give theymos the false impression that this is a problem worthy of deeper consideration, which it isn't, at least not when there's a perfectly good fix on the table that wouldn't preclude any down-the-road elaboration from taking place.) |

Yeah, that works - I’ve tried it myself, but since I’m usually not on my phone when I’m posting, I get where OgNasty’s coming from. For a user like him (and probably some others) who mainly use their phone for reading, replying, and sending merit, it can take up a bit of time. Let’s see if the forum makes a tweak; it’s a simple fix. If it’s needed, they’ll probably go for it. |

Is everyone deleting this zero every time they leave merit like I am?
Yes I do delete the zero before leaving merits but I don't see it to be a big deal, because it makes me remain conscious when sending out merits, at least it makes us reduce the speed at which we give out merits. Although I feel how crazy it's when someone wants to leave merits to the other person's profile, and meriting someone using mobile phone seems to be very boring but using pc makes it very easier like you wouldn't have to stress yourself that much with just a backspace everything is off and then you can send the numbers of merits you wish to send. |

If you want to send any merit less than 10, you can let the zero number there, and type 1, 2, to 9, you will have 01, 02, to 09, and when you click on Send, it works, I test it by sending 1 merit to your post with the format of 01.
Yeah, that works - I’ve tried it myself, but since I’m usually not on my phone when I’m posting, I get where OgNasty’s coming from. For a user like him (and probably some others) who mainly use their phone for reading, replying, and sending merit, it can take up a bit of time. Let’s see if the forum makes a tweak; it’s a simple fix. If it’s needed, they’ll probably go for it. Yes, it is indeed a pain in the ass that could be incredibly simplified and it should be considering it is a way to positively interact with others here, which should be encouraged. Let’s say I want to send someone a merit as it is now. I tap +merit, tap on the merit box (oops finger registered as on the left side of the zero), touch, hold for a second, drag to the right, release, delete, type a 1, click send. (9 steps) Let’s say it is blank. I click +merit, tap on the merit box, enter a 1, click send. (4 steps) Let’s say it populated with a 1 instead of a zero. I click +merit, click send. (2 steps) |

I believe most merit sources do not send 1 merit to the post that they like and think it's worth reading. I see LoyceV mostly sends 4 merits, while fillippone likes the number 3, and other merit sources might have their favorite number. So, it is not possible to customize it for everyone. Since merit sources mostly spend time on sending merits every day, no one should forget about them. So, if you want to customize it, the box should be blank instead of a zero or a one. That is my personal opinion if theymos is going to tweak this little thing. Otherwise, I am still okay with how it works. |

Dude, I have like 1300 merits to send right now and getting more daily. Anything to make handing that out easier should be looked at. Let’s say it populated with a 1 instead of a zero.

I think some people just leave the zero there (as in, as long as you're entering something after it, then it's a harmless prefix, but, that habit also leads to the mistake of sometimes being on the wrong side of the zero, and then accidentally sending 10 times more merit than you intended). It happened to me twice. But only in less than 0.1% of my Merit transactions, involving less than 0.2% of my sent Merit. So it's not a big deal. Merit sources are incentivized to give out all their merits. This has led to lazy merit sources dishing out more merits per post. It also makes it easier to circle merit with your friends while leaving less tracks. I think maybe if it were easier to give out just 1 merit, we’d see less concentration in merit circles and more merits going to more users. So at post #14 you finally say what this is really about. Merit sources are like males. Cursed with a dick and balls. They need to get them balls emptied everyonce in a while otherwise bad things will happen. Like they could lose their balls -i mean merit sourcing capabilities. We don’t want that. Nobody wants that. We want to stay as healthy as we can and keep spreading our seeds -i mean merits in every women -i mean forum user we can mate -i mean merit.

I also had this question when I first sent someone merit from my account. When I send merit, it showed in front of me, then I saw that it can be edited or cut, you can put any number you want, select how many merits to send and then send it. Although my first thought was why there is zero or why zero is given. After seeing everything, it seems that they have set up the system in that way, when everyone comes here to send merit, it will be zero. Why does the merit field pre-populate with a zero? Is this needed? Couldn’t it be left blank? Is everyone deleting this zero every time they leave merit like I am?
I definitely agree with what you said because it would be better if it starts from zero so it makes no sense to mention zero. If it is not there, then there is no need to spend time to select as many as you want. Many people will like zero and many will not like it like you didn't like zero like I didn't like it and yes whenever I go to send the qualifications I just delete the blanks like you and then select the desired qualification and send it. But today I will share with you a new experience which I have not done before. Maybe when all of you send merit, maybe all of you edit and delete this void and then select and send merit as you wish. Today I sent merit with merit number with zero and noticed one thing that after going to send merit I didn't edit zero again without editing zero then I sent merit with one number I wanted to see the matter whether the merit is sent or not but I see After getting zero I was selecting one after cent I saw one minute sent.  See this I can see a merit is sent even after selecting 01 but here my question is if I send merit by putting double number after zero then in what way or how many will be sent suppose I send 011 merit sent then zero will be sent then how many merits will be sent? I want to clear this matter. thank you.  |

I think some people just leave the zero there (as in, as long as you're entering something after it, then it's a harmless prefix, but, that habit also leads to the mistake of sometimes being on the wrong side of the zero, and then accidentally sending 10 times more merit than you intended). It happened to me twice. But only in less than 0.1% of my Merit transactions, involving less than 0.2% of my sent Merit. So it's not a big deal. Merit sources are incentivized to give out all their merits. This has led to lazy merit sources dishing out more merits per post. It also makes it easier to circle merit with your friends while leaving less tracks. I think maybe if it were easier to give out just 1 merit, we’d see less concentration in merit circles and more merits going to more users. So at post #14 you finally say what this is really about. The made-up drama in your head again. Go complain to theymos about it: If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It sounds a lot like you're complaining about Merit sources who sent out much more sMerit in more transactions to more different users than you did. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down. Looks like I hit a nerve. This thread isn’t about your lazy ass handing out merit. Get over yourself. It’s about my lazy ass not wanting to change a 0 to a 1 when handing out merit. I don’t care how you circle your merit. I barely care about merit enough to change a zero to a 1, hence my creation of this thread. The best solution would be a quick merit button you could just click on the post as you’re scrolling by without opening a new window. |
