Well cash retains its dominance in many parts of the world due to stability and universal acceptance, while in my opinion cryptocurrency is rapidly gaining traction as a futuristic alternative. Its decentralized nature, potential for financial inclusion, and technological advantages make it appealing, particularly in the digital economy. The choice ultimately depends on individual needs, technological infrastructure, and regional preferences. As the world moves toward digitalization, crypto is poised to challenge cash’s throne, but for now, cash remains the king in traditional transactions.

Crypto won't challenge cash's throne. CBDCs will do that. Heck, crypto will be outlawed by many countries once central banks start rolling digital currencies of their own. All in an attempt to force people to use the new Fiat money system. Bitcoin will continue to be regulated to a point where you won't be able to use it as "digital cash". Buying and selling of BTC will be made mandatory through centralized exchanges.

For people seeking true privacy and freedom, Monero would be their only answer. I think even physical gold and silver coins/bullion will also be used as some sort of "cash alternative". We can't predict the future, so let's hope for the best.

Digital payments seem to be in the rise lately. More people are abandoning paper money (cash) in favor of credit/debit cards, and even crypto. Paying with cash is a rarity these days. Especially where I live. I'm beginning to wonder if cash is still King. Countries worldwide are already planning to launch CBDCs of their own. So cash's days are numbered. Am I right?

Feel free to share your thoughts. Thanks. Smiley

that is the that is currently happening, with digital payments becoming easier and starting to be widely used, it is possible that cash will gradually be replaced by digital payments, especially for those who do not hold cash, and indeed it can help, however in places where the internet is not available it will be difficult, but I am sure the transition from cash to digital payments will continue.

I believe that cash paper money will be in demand even in the distant future and will be actively used by people in everyday payments. Of course, non-cash money is gradually replacing cash, but up to a certain limit and depending on the level of development of the state, the degree of urbanization and the level of income of citizens. But in some cases, cash is simply irreplaceable and if cataclysms periodically occur on our planet, and we see that everything is heading this way, then cash in extreme situations, when there are failures in the operation of technical means, will continue to be used.

In addition, it should be remembered that cash is the least traceable by government agencies and in this they are similar to cryptocurrency. In addition, states and their banking systems set too many different restrictions on the number of maximum amounts and the frequency of transactions, which leads to periodic blocking of transactions with subsequent explanation of sources of income, the need to prove the absence of intent to commit fraudulent actions and many other similar situations that significantly complicate the use of non-cash money.

goodluck to them forcing this upon people they would not want to use coins issued by cbdcs in replacement of crypto what can the government do if they do not use their coins? the worst they can do is to punish those who will use cryptocurrencies not issued by them

i hope not it does seem like a lot of countries do not care as much if you buy it thru centralized or decentralized platforms because they like bitcoin right now

Well, digital payments still rely on power and reliable Internet access. Without these, you won't be able to pay for goods and/or services. That's where cash comes in. It can be used offline, especially during emergency situations (power outages, natural disasters, etc). I hope physical coins and paper money stay with us for a long time. We don't want central banks and governments controlling our financial life with their digital currencies (CBDCs). At least, I don't.

Anonymity and privacy are one of cash's main benefits. It's no wonder why criminals still use cash on top of everything else. Once cash is "phased out", Monero will save the day. Just sit back and relax. There's nothing to worry about. Cheesy

Of course, it will not just disappear because there are still many of us who have special needs as conveyed by @Abiky  especially for remote areas, let alone having a bank account like other people, there is no unit office and if you send money you have to go to the city.

In my view, seeing the current conditions, indirectly, the use of digital money, if seen from its current performance, is increasing, especially if it is wrapped in blockchain technology and e-wallets, it will further help speed up transactions and also eliminate physical money.
