When someone is scammed, why are people on this forum saying it is greed that caused it?

I do not see greed as what that caused it.

The reason is that if someone is greedy but have knowledge and experience about scam, the person will know that it is a scam and easily just avoid it.

But a young person that do not have the experience before will be scammed because he has no knowledge about the scam which makes the newbie an ignorant person.

Ignorance, lack of knowledge and experience about scam is the reason people got scammed and not greed.

It is not good to also be greedy but not the reason someone got scammed.

It's sometimes greed mate. I had a couple of friends who knew what ponzi schemes are but they would still go on and throw in some money with hope that they would actually make some profits but they always ended up getting scammed and they would move onto the next one.
They of course eventually gave up

Being scammed comes in different formats and the scammers try using subtle ways to find out what will interest their victims before striking. That being said, some people fall into scams through greed while some through ignorance but the former are in the majority. Majority of people who got scammed fell into it through ponzi-like schemes where they are promised high returns within a short time for doing nothing other than given the scammers their money to multiply and return to them only to find out through the hard way. Hyped shitcoins, many ICOs and even outright ponzi schemes fall into this category. There is no way to classify this as ignorant because the victims knew that paying x2 or x10 of their capital within a short time is something risky yet they go ahead to invest their money.

The other category being due to ignorance are similar to scammers mimicking someone or something else or cloning websites or downloading malicious software because they don't know how to verify the source. The list is long because there are too many ways scammers are hitting people who are ignorant of their schemes and the truth is that anyone can fall into this category of scam.

 What makes some people fall easily to these scammers tricks is mostly greed. It's greed that overshadows every other emotion, makes your ability to think straight a bit warped. There's ignorance in play but some times if one is ignorant about something he goes on to make enquiry about the project and after he has gotten the necessary information decides to either go forward with putting money into it or not but a greedy person knows that there's the likelihood of it being a scam but goes on to put anyway, having this thought that he's too smart to fall or that the scammers can't get him.
 Most people who are greedy often pay deaf ears to warnings and are often bitten in the end. The Op can argue with me that an ignorant person can also be a victim of scam even after being cautioned but if there's not a greed factor at play, I don't think they will fall.

Yeah - some people don't even know the story is. But for me,  it is often oversimplified and unfair to take or opinion.
Easy way for people to feel superior or distance themselves from the risk of being scammed is blaming victims for being "greedy", that's why it is common, you will see anywhere, not only in this forum.
And other people will use it to make you more cautious nextime especially you are in cryptocurrency world where scams are everywhere and everyone is prone.

This does not applies to everyone, it all depends on the narration given by the victim that makes people relate it to whether the cause was due to greediness or something else, except if the person replying is just talking another thing on his own without having a proper idea of what was involved and the right response to give on such case, which is a common mistake with newbies.

It can also happen combining the three altogether, but as you have said, not all the scam conditions are always related to being greedy, some don't have experience in some of the routes used to scam people, even an experienced user can be scammed by a little trick from the scammers, we all have to just be extra careful to avoid any chances of being scammed irrespective of their techniques.

I will still say that it is greedy that causes most of the scam though not all. And why it is greedy because they want to double their money to big amount within a short period of time. Have you read the story of money Doublers"? People that fall foe those money doublers scheme are greedy people and they were not ignorant but well known that those are fake but they want to get quick money so they were scammer.

You can look at this chat, a scammer chatted me up yesterday and I if I was not doing anything and I need money desperately I would fall for it. And many people who fall for scammers are the desperate kind of people.


I have been scammed so I know how it is. If you have not been scammed, you might be thinking it is not greediness. My brother it is. Poverty can also caused it and it is still boiled down to greediness because you want to acquire more. Those who have it and have the consciousness will not fall for those traps.

Ignorance, not just greed, is often why people get scammed. A well-informed person can spot scams, but someone inexperienced may fall for them simply due to a lack of knowledge. Awareness is key to prevention.

This makes them as a very target to these scammers. They're not ignorant in their own thoughts because they think they've found a jackpot.

Greed once you already knew that it can be causing you scamming but since there is a big pot of money you still keep hunting and investing so that's obviously greediness that brings you there .

Ignorance is when you know nothing about this thing but since you wanted to earn or collect fruits you deposited and this is why it is called ignorance.

Scam is like gambling, they promise people big rewards (with small investments) which the victims might know is almost impossible to win yet keep playing hoping to be lucky one day. What drives them to keep getting scammed is actually greed. They know it's hard to win yet hope it works for them at another try.
Ofcourse, people could be scammed for lack of knowledge, but if they keep getting scam via thesame tricks, they are likely driven by greed. The greed could be so overwhelming that it makes you forget you were previously scammed in similar manner.

Lots of people don't know they are scammers. They think it's just a game to defeat foolish/greedy opponents, and their opponents are hoping to be lucky with rewards that are way larger than their initial investments. It abit like gambling, you take big risks to win big. They gamble and never win, then felt scammed, while the scammers who have little/zero conscience keep smiling to the banks after another successful catching of fools.
But ofcourse, if their new victims were told it's just a game or a game of luck, the victims would be more careful. So they keep this knowledge hidden and promise them huge rewards

someone greedy would not care if there are red flags so long that there is a possibility of earning you are underestimating just how much greed can blind someone even the smartest person in the room can make mistakes due to his greedy nature and inability to be content

I agree with what you said, aside from the part where you said Greed is not part of it. Greed is a big part of it. Not in every case of course because some scams are just people that were trying to do honest business online but they got scammed.

The ones that were deceived into investments, greed is a big part of it. They were told they would make money, they were deceived. If a person tells you you'll get $100k in 2 months if you invest with $1000, you should know that's a scam because even though it's possible, they can't guarantee it, but they're ignorant and greedy enough to believe them. So yea, it's ignorance, but greed is also a part of it in some cases.

some people think they are too smart than even if they know those are scams or schemes, they will still go ahead and try to earn profit fully knowing the risks this is what happens with memecoins

Greed has a way of making bad bets in gambling, look like good bets.

It makes bad deals, look like good deals.

Those who are scammed often wonder how it happened.

They feel as if they should have known better.

Well when we are scammed alot of the times it is because we are trying to make some profit. it can be from a bad link that we get and then it does lead to us being scammed.
I did get scammed a few times but do not want to give so much reasons how that happened. But I do think it is sometimes greed more then it does become us being ignorant.
