I will say about media influence on gambling here in Romania where we have Sport TV Talk show on national TV and 5 out of 5 ads are for gambling and I can understand that as long as the talk show is about sports in general but no , we have gambling ads on all sports channels and even on normal news. What is bothering me a lot is that lately we have new talk shows about GAMBLING. Yep , you read that right and they are super sketchy because they are doing live bets on national TV while a lot of Romanians are watching and placing bets based on a random information heard on TV.

It is true that this has a strong enough influence that many people are interested when they see it, but actually we don't need to seek experience in this matter because with the many cases that have occurred, we must be able to make it an example and take lessons not to do the same thing with results that allow us to experience the same thing.

I often see this on my social media, even famous figures in the videos they pass by promote a gambling platform but what I think seems impossible for famous figures to do this, I had time to think that with the current AI that can make anything and anyone into a fake video and I think this is what my local casino did, by manipulating videos using famous figures to promote their casinos when in reality the famous figures did not do it.

In the country where I live I have never seen a show about casinos or gambling. Only feature films, like James Bond or Ocean's Friends. But it is clear that these films romanticize and embellish the image of a casino: nice ladies in expensive dresses, success and luck, big money. I am sure that many people in real life went to a casino because they wanted to get the same thing. But the film is written according to a script and everything is good there, which I cannot say about gambling in most cases in our real life. Here, not everyone gets huge winnings and becomes a winner.

Actually, I believe there are other thing or factors which have more influence over the on the public perception of gambling and casinos, television shows and live shows for not have as much as influence as YouTube, streamers and internet celebrities have, in my opinion, and that is the reason why so many streamers get sponsored by casinos nowadays. Marketing departments of those casinos are aware the attention of people is on the internet and on those who gathered millions of fans playing videogames or reviewing products.
Perhaps, in pre-internet era the public perception of gambling was dominated by TV, but not anymore, though.

This is a good discussion. Governments are always looking for extra revenue, like everyone else. If they identify they can take advantage of gambling in order to raise their income, they will change their perception towards it and regulate it. For an example: gambling has been always heavily criticized and condemned by brazilian government. I've already seen several police operations directed to clandestine gambling houses (mostly, slot machines).

That is due to the fact gambling has been always illegal in the country. However, federal lottery is allowed to operate, besides some other lotteries ran by wealthy national entrepreneurs. Moreover, the media has always proudly shared the police operations.

But since the recent popularity of sports betting platforms, it seems such platforms aren't a category of gambling, because they are completely accepted in the country. More yet, sports betting platforms sponsor the local media. It may look contradictory, although it's just an evidence of how people's stances change accordingly to their personal interests.
