Announcement: Temporary Staking Rewards

We are pleased to announce the activation of a temporary staking reward on the Patchcoin network.

Each block, there will now be a minimum staking reward of 0.01 PTC, funded through transaction fees of a PTC donation address.

The total Patchcoin supply will always remain at 21,000,000 PTC, just like Bitcoin, except with proof-of-stake.

Our Patchcoin claims period is now closed after 180 days.

In our recent communications we incorrectly stated 21 August as the end date, rather than 19 August. The tool we used neglected to count the first claims day, as well as some time zone differences.

The claims period has run the full 180 days, as Patchcoin’s code set the time duration on this line:

> consensus.nStakeGenesisLockTime = 60 * 60 * 24 * 180 + consensus.nStakeMaxAge;

That said, if anyone was waiting until 21 August to submit a new claim, or had a voided claim, we may verify and fill claims manually prior to the final distribution.

If you attempted (or planned) to submit a new claim between 19 Aug - 21 Aug, you can still submit a claim through the Patchcoin wallet until 21 August 11:59PM UTC. Those PTC will be manually distributed afterwards.

The final distribution is still planned for shortly after 21 August, at which point our team will provide a full report on the Patchcoin distribution phase.

Patchcoin is now a fully decentralized, energy-efficient alternative to Bitcoin.

The claims period has closed after 180+ days, after the final distribution of all remaining unclaimed PTC.

Our development team has fulfilled its promise to freely distribute all 21 million coins with no developer reserves or ICO sales. Anyone who held Peercoin or Bitcoin during the past six months was free to submit an automated claim.

We estimate nearly $8 million USD worth of Peercoin and Bitcoin were used to claim PTC.

There were 975 claims received and delivered to hundreds of holders across the world.

These hundreds of new PTC holders understand that Patchcoin’s advantage over Bitcoin is energy usage. Through proof-of-stake consensus, our network annually uses less energy than just a hundred Bitcoin transactions.

The Bitcoin mining industry has become dangerously centralized. Today, three mining operators control more than 51% of the hash rate. A recent report suggests the United States now controls over 75% of global hash power, with an administration focused on nationalizing companies.

The next Bitcoin halving in 2028 will further worsen the mining centralization problem.

Patchcoin is a superior option but must build a trusted history to be a real alternative to Bitcoin.
