Participate In The Word Game & Earn Merit By Answering Correctly.

Creating threads such as these giveaway merits and open it up to abuse for alt-accounts and farmed accounts as has happened in the past. It is a completely incorrect way to distribute merits. It is however one way to attract attention for those seeking attention: Wonder Work

How many newbies register in the forum one day and on the following day enter the Pizza Contest just before entries close? The Wonder Work pizza-maker that claims he has no other accounts and somehow fortuitously registered the Wonder Work account just in time for the Pizza Contest has now gone a step further with his merit giveaway thread: Which accounts seemed to register in time for competitions including Pizza Day?

There have been numerous attempts by numerous members, here is one as an example that was caught involved with merit abuse to his associated accounts: Questionable Merit History From: deadsea33

Can we have some consensus on the matter?

If enough members agree that this sort of nonsense has to stop, maybe we can get theymos to make a statement on it too.

It's in Off-topic. I don't see a problem with this. Even better: I wouldn't have seen it, if you wouldn't have created this topic.

Can we have some consensus on the matter?

Lol....Funny Post..

I don't understand one thing how you posted on the metaboard. After I posted to run a word game, it was already off-topic because when saw the forum moderator it was not necessary in the forum. When my post was already off-topic, it ended there, but it is really funny that a person like you is creating a topic on the metaboard with off-topic.

Looking at your behavior, Your behavior seems to indicate that I have a personal enmity with you, which is why you are following me. Before this, you have been trolling me a lot and your well-wishing members Pakhitheboss, Worldofcoins and them trolled me together. Later, it was seen that two of your well-wishers were punished for cheating. Everyone knows that you are angry with me from there.

The things you have blamed me for are not issues. You have trolled me for simple randomly false issues and today you are trolling for an off-topic thing, so from here you can understand what kind of ANGER you have towards me. Anyway, your 2 well-wishers (W/P) have lost their well-wishers due to their personal reasons. So stop posting such off-topics on meta boards. It's really funny that you posted such an off-topic on a place like meta.

JG I think the best thing to do is to keep him or her on track to know what could be the next move and if you finally suspect anything then it would be more better to give it a concern, but for now I fully Agreed with LoyceV on his words towards this case here.

True, many of us have off-topic even ignored. However, newbies don't and some did answer there, I've seen.
So imho OP question is somewhat valid.

Can we have some consensus on the matter?

I don't think that the problem is big enough/widespread enough to be an actual problem.
In this very case I see OP gives 1 merit / post when the lowest rank that answered has 10 merits anyway. That won't do much.

@Wonder Work, just a word

Your word game can easily be solved or manipulated by a cheat using AI tools, so I don't think it's helping at all. If you have any doubt, trying using one of the AI tools and see.
If you want to make it much more fun, perhaps make it something like a hard puzzle.

Personally, I think merit give away threads are places where account farmers use to grow their accounts. At least I have seen some exposed cheating accounts all pass through the process of merit farming. But who am I to say this? I am not even a merit source.

Thank you for giving me a clearer idea on this subject.

It has become off-topic for now, so I will not recharge about it anymore. You are right that nowadays many complex problems can be solved using AI tools. However, although I do not have that much merit, I personally made a game plan today and published it. To give merit to those who can give the correct answer. But this game seen negatively, which I did not know. However, it has become off-topic, so will not go further with it.

Next time, if I do anything about this type of game, I will make it more like a hard puzzle. Thank you for giving me a good suggestion. Smiley

It really does easy to solve even not using AI, how much more using that   kind of tools. You can just give like give the first, center and last character as a hint then the rest is all blank as a puzzle.

Wonder work is not a merit source and he opened the thread to exhaust his smerits. He should rather be encouraged as against those that banks their smerits. That thread will not be sustainable if a merit source doesn't support it. Besides Wonder work is just giving 1 merit, I don't think it's big enough to feed a farm.

I found his game interesting and I think it's kinda fun. Atleast anyone should be able to do what makes them happy in the forum in as much as they operate within the forum rules. This is not an issue to reach a consensus and neither does it require theymos intervention.

Yes you're right even I solved first two puzzle in my first glance Grin . But it's sad that this game comes to an end. However I saw some member's even describing the puzzle word's. It's quite informative.

It's in Off-topic. I don't see a problem with this.

Me neither, plus the pun has to do with bitcoin, it's kind of educational. At the moment the answers are: Nonce, Schnorr Signatures, Merkle Root etc.

It's one thing if you caught WW sending merits to his alts, JG, but I share the general sentiment in not seeing a problem here.

I did not also see the post until this thread was created in Meta, probably because I rarely visit off-topic board. Visiting the thread, I actually learnt few things that I didn't know before due to the descriptions given by some of the respondents. Indeed that was Bitcoin related knowledge being shared and if merits were given for such topics, I don't see much of a problem. Besides, like many already said, WW is not a merit source so I don't know how there could possibly be a merit farming in such a thread. We should not discourage and frustrate every genuine effort at giving out merits because the merits were generated to be given out at the sole discretion of the person sending them out.

True, many of us have off-topic even ignored. However, newbies don't and some did answer there, I've seen.
So imho OP question is somewhat valid.
I cannot be sure but I think when I discovered the thread it was not in Off Topic, it could have been moved there by a moderator. As I stated, I am not sure but maybe someone will correct me.

Let us not forget, the Wonder Work account was created on 20th May 2024 and he entered the Pizza Day contest with allegedly freshly made pizzas on 21st May 2024. This is not the behaviour of a newbie that registers on a bitcoin forum. If that is the case then it is safe to make presumptions as the account engages in other activities.

As the puppeteer operating the Wonder Work account controls more than one account and his modus operandi was to join campaigns and rank up or enter competitions trying to win prizes, the element of merit abuse remains (either hoping to receive them for creating the thread or giving them out to associated accounts).

I don't think that the problem is big enough/widespread enough to be an actual problem.
In this very case I see OP gives 1 merit / post when the lowest rank that answered has 10 merits anyway. That won't do much.
I noticed it too. However, when the deadsea33 account was caught up in merit abuse via his deadsea33's "Complete the Word Game and Get Merits" it shows a problem no matter how small. This is a totally unnecessary manner to give away merits under the guise of it is "just 1 merit" and "it is in off-topic" and should be discouraged.

Yes the problem is not widespread but probably because of other accounts being exposed as merit cheats and it being frowned upon at the time. From experience, it is safe to assume usually when threads such as that are created there is more going on than meets the eye.

I see your concern, @JollyGood, and I get that it's good for the community. However, this is just a minor issue that doesn’t really need a consensus from everyone here. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a merit giveaway thread.. there are others, even hosted by members with a lot of merits.

In fact, there's even a thread where you just post when you're close to ranking up, and some users give out merits to help with that. Isn’t that even easier? That’s much closer to merit farming since you don’t even have to contribute anything valuable or helpful to a topic.. you just post, and boom, you get merits.

The concern as you said @sanitough is in order and does not really need a consensus but should be looked at.

About the ranking up thread, it appears supportive and encouraging to members haven been here. So it can't really be likened to merit farming even as it requires no effort (not saying you called it a farm). The good vibes it can gives to a members is imaginable.
The thread objective looks open and direct which is a direct encouragement and support to members to keep keeping up here.

Can we have some consensus on the matter?

If enough members agree that this sort of nonsense has to stop, maybe we can get theymos to make a statement on it too.
Well, some problems don't need to be tackled really hard to get a solution -- how many Smerits has he been able to accumulate at his disposal?? Can you just make a rough guess? It ain't even enough to keep that thread active, JG.
This is not an issue to reach a consensus and neither does it require theymos intervention.
Unless maybe it goes further than this?..

JG's major concern is the fact that this could also be another strategy to feed them alts, without literally breaking any rules..
From experience, it is safe to assume usually when threads such as that are created there is more going on than meets the eye.
You may be correct, but until ascertained, it's just an allegation...

It was originally in the main bitcoin discussion sub. Personally, I don't think people should be holding competitions to give away merit. As you've mentioned, it is ripe for abuse and could easily be used to launder merit. Farmers will quickly exploit it and if one person does it even more so will try it.

Looking for a new signature deal - PM me with any offers.

Well, some problems don't need to be tackled really hard to get a solution -- how many Smerits has he been able to accumulate at his disposal?? Can you just make a rough guess? It ain't even enough to keep that thread active, JG.
Here, let's do the maths (https://bpip.org/Profile?id=3632550)

Earned Merit score = 217

Potential total S Merits = 108

Sent S Merits  = 102

Unspent S Merits right now = 6.

No big deal here to cause serious alarm, so far (we have seen worse). There's a lot more merit abuse and account farming happening in the Economics board. If anyone wants to burst merit abuse, they can start following patterns from that board Smiley

Let us not forget, the Wonder Work account was created on 20th May 2024 and he entered the ........
After I came to the forum, I talked to the contest owner to participate in the contest and participated. Why are you worried about which contest I participated in? There is no point in telling these lies because I didn't commit any scam on the forum. The day you can catch the scam, you will speak as prove/evidence. Whether I will participate in the contest with my account or do something else is my personal matter. You have no authority to speak on this matter. You are not put on the forum to (advocate Grin) for anyone. The forum has an illegal system, if you commit a scam, it can be said as prove/evidence, but you (I think, you think, maybe, funny) do not have the right to post about these. So use your time wisely, so that you can sleep peacefully.

As the puppeteer operating the Wonder Work account controls more than one account and his modus operandi was to join campaigns and rank up or enter competitions trying to win prizes, the element of merit abuse remains (either hoping to receive them for creating the thread or giving them out to associated accounts).
I don't have any alt accounts, but I came to know about the many alt accounts you have by reading many posts on the reputation board. The ones you cultivated and raised have already been caught and disappeared. But they are not lost; they are on the forum through some other account, and you are farming the account yourself, this has been proven many times on the reputation board. I did not abuse the qualifications. I started turning off the game system after it went off-topic. I do not have that much merit, you can never abuse merit with 1-2 merits. You have a lot of merit reserves; you can abuse merit, and this can be said without a doubt. Again, you are trying to prove that you have become a bad trolling person on the forum. Grin

Yes, it was in the Bitcoin discussion, but after I posted it, the moderator gave it to the off-topic. When I did not need it for the forum, the moderator gave it too off-topic. I ended it there and did not give anyone new qualifications. And I did not do any work of merit laundering with my 1-2 merits. I will not personally do anything to create a scandal on the forum. When my post moderator gave it off topic, there was no point in talking about it anymore.

If you pay attention.
You will see that he has trolled me a lot on the reputation board and given a neutral tag. Later, some accounts under him trolled me a lot along with him. You will see that JollyGood always supported them while trolling. Later, they got red tags after the Pakhitheboss, Worldofcoins scam was caught, and they disappeared from the forum. He is very angry with me for these issues, that's why he always tries to talk about me randomly.
