Yes, that's true. I don't deny that degrees have their own influence. Sometimes having a high degree can make it easier to join a large company, potentially earning a high salary. But in my community, there are quite a few young university graduates with advanced degrees who are still unemployed. Whether it's because the job market is difficult or because they're simply lazy about looking for work, they'll eventually realize they need to find and get a job.
I've never been encouraged to go to university, but I've refused, believing that skills without a degree are better than a degree without any relevant skills.

The labor market is too saturated that we have too much number of graduates that are chasing after small available jobs. Do you know how many graduates numbers that we are having every year, there are probably more that has graduated years before and are not having job, when a small job are been pasted then they run along together with the new graduates to chase small jobs. It's a survival of the fittest and sometimes, you need networking to get work in a big company.
Yes, it's a fact. In fact, almost every country produces many graduates every year, but most of them are unemployed due to limited job opportunities. In fact, I'm not surprised to see news reports that many bachelor's graduates are now working as domestic workers and drivers. My friend graduated with honors at law and was the best graduate, but now she works as a laborer in a cake factory. So if we look at the current phenomenon, it could be said that college is becoming less and less relevant for pursuing financial freedom later in life. But what's needed now is skills, especially in the digital age like today, where there are so many opportunities to earn income you just need to hone your skills.

However I'm not saying college isn't important. It's truly a platform for building connections and networks that can be leveraged to secure job opportunities and develop yourself and your skills. What I mean is that relying solely on your degree will be difficult. If you can do both, it's better, but if you can't, my advice is to focus on your skills.

Both aspects are important in life. It depends on what you wanna be.

If you want to survive in life. Skills are enough. We can learn it through experience. Repetition of something can build up skills but that skill is not that very demanded by the world.

If you want to success in life you need both aspect with balance ratio: skills and education. Educate yourself to learn the right way to create skills. Read books on how they experience to create good skills. This will shorten the time the skill. Create more skills in short of the time period and your life will be easier.

Experience shows that it's impossible to survive on just one salary these days if you want to provide for your family. A degree and a stable office job aren't enough to cover expenses. And that's unfortunate. Today, everyone is looking for additional ways to earn money, and this is a common occurrence, even in developed countries. Therefore, you need to have the skills and a good education to earn a living.

That's why it's really good that bitcoin or cryptocurrency emerged, so we also have the option to choose an opportunity to get a source of income from this industry.
Though, studying is still important in the end, of course, because it's different when we have achievements we've reached since it adds to our skills that we can combine
with the profession we completed.

By my assumptions, there are strong indications already that we are moving past an era where employers put educational qualifications at the fore front of their requirement for employment into certain positions, some employers now hold personal qualities such as skills possessed by the individual ahead of the school they went to and the degree they graduated with. First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?
When you go for a government job, you may need a big degree, especially when you are going to do a first class job in your country. But if you go for a job in a private organization, first of all you will need skills. If you do not have any skills, then you will not be able to do a good job or if you want to do any business, you will need practical experience. So only getting a degree cannot be the main goal of a person. If you want to earn money, you will need skills. Without a good skill, no one can do anything good. So in a country where everyone runs only after getting a degree without developing any skills, that country will never develop and the unemployment rate will be high in that country. Because everyone there will have a high degree but they will not get a job accordingly.

In this day and age, it's true that one job isn't enough. We still need other sidelines to have additional sources of income because of the high cost of goods,
but salaries don't increase accordingly, so the value of our salary as employees decreases.
In jobs, the salary range is always within a limit, but the movement of daily life and the price of things never remain within a limit; they constantly fluctuate. Especially, the cost of daily necessities is increasing day by day, making it very difficult to meet daily life's needs within a limited income. When the salary limit does not meet the needs of daily life, they must take loans and pursue activities beyond their job. This becomes very difficult for a person. Considering all these aspects, it can be said that the salary of employees is decreasing day by day compared to the cost of daily necessities.

Therefore, you need to have the skills and a good education to earn a living.
Therefore if you can acquire skills in any subject, you can do that job according to your skills to earn extra money along with your regular job. Since the education system of many countries is not job oriented, you do not get the job you expect or the salary is relatively low due to lack of skills. Most employees are fulfilling the needs of their family with one salary because they lack the time to do another job. There is a need for alternative jobs, but not everyone has the same skills. In most workplaces, you have to work overtime for the same salary, so your alternative income opportunities are narrow.

Both are equally important imo. A college degree is important because you can create a good network there. You’ll meet smart people there and learn lots of stuff from them which you can’t find on the internet.

Your skills is the real money maker that’s true but if you have a solid network of friends you’ll get many more job/business opportunities. You can’t reach everyone via internet.

Being a hackerrank/leetcode nerd isn’t always the most optimal path.
Both are very important but if we're to choose between college degrees and skill, every one should go for a skill . going to college doesn't mean your future is secured,a good skill gives you a life time opportunity which leads to generation of money.

On the other hand while getting a degree is important, after college if you have the opportunity of working or having a government job, your job is a life time.it pass you for life while the one with a skill is waiting for people to patronize them, the government work or civil servants get paid at the comfort of their homes.
If you have the opportunity have a college degree and still learn a skill, the two works together to make life easy.

I agree having a degree alone doesn’t guarantee success, especially when it comes to performing well at a job. But I think education still plays a subtle role that many people overlook it trains the mind to understand complex systems, solve problems, and adapt faster when learning new skills. In my view, education builds the foundation, while skills build the structure.
A degree might not make you instantly employable, but when combined with skill and exposure, it makes you more adaptable and innovative in the long run.

Actually what the society needed is skills cos a man with skill can survive anywhere without carrying application letter to any organization with skill you are independent nobody to interrupt you,so fact you have a firm which people are looking for but when it comes to importance education is the best, education is the only key to success,if you are not educated one is going to have a limitation in some setting things,so I will say the two is essential factor, through education you have knowledge and through knowledge skills comer's to reality.

First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?
To your first question: lately most people value skills learning than degrees, with the way the Nigeria educational system is going, most countries  focus more on theory parts than the practical part, they produce graduate that knows the concept but cannot effectively use them when it comes to reality situation,
‎As the technology and industrial system grows rapidly, schools sometimes don't meet up in their curriculum or even in the modern workplace demands, this alone make the employers to see beyond paper qualifications,  which make them to focus on what they can actually do as a person,  what they can create, the problems they can solve, their level of communication and adaptability.
‎For the second question: if I am the employer I will choose skills over School, degree may make a way but skills shows how well a person performs and his creativity,
‎If a person who can make a results, learn fast, and adopt to challenges that person will be more valuable than a person who hold a degree that can't apply what they have learnt in school but I'm not saying education is bad but the both  qualification are  perfect,
‎Education qualification is all about how potential and discipline a person is while skills means the capability or readiness of a person.

Your perspective has made me to agree with you. Some people say learn skills even they are not educated but this will be incomplete because skills can’t be applied in a right way without knowledge. Skills make us eligible to solve problems and become self reliant while education gives us awareness and knowledge to apply the skills effectively. Nowadays if we have a skills we can survive doesn’t matter which country which location or which state. We don’t need to wait for jobs  but we need education to understand the depths, discipline to those skills. An educated person with practical skills have the strenght to surivive in any environment. We have to find balance in skills and education.

School and skills are both important and one does not have to replace the other. Going to school gives you educational qualifications and a degree that can help you get a better paying job. Although not everyone gets jobs because cause of their degrees, sometimes it depends on connections and who they know.
On the other hand having a skill is impossible ,your skill can turn into business. That way you cope with or without a certificate. So education and skills are best combined . Because your certificate can help you find a good paying job while your skills can serve as an additional source of income.

Skills can usually be born through education that is routinely undertaken by a person. They won't come naturally if someone doesn't frequently train themselves through education and continuous, consistent practice. Because education isn't just about school or college; training by a mentor with a specific expertise is also education, even if it's not for the purpose of a diploma, but simply to develop skills within ourselves. I also consider both very important because they can support each other when both are present within a person, so that wherever they live, they will never experience excessive difficulties in their own lives.

Education is not the only key to success. If you are someone who knows what they are doing and has a high-demand skill, you will be able to survive and make an achievement which commands respect, which is a definition for a successful person.

We need to be educated in order to get exposed to and have experience with things, but with education in a world which has a low employment rate, it will be hard for you to survive with a skill to back up that degree which you have acquired.

First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?

I agree that we’re witnessing the equivalent of hyperinflation in college degrees. However, although their value has been eroded, they still hold some worth.

I tend to believe that while a good education offers little help in developing practical skills, it ultimately serves as a filter—selecting the obedient and the conformist, qualities that remain important for the majority of jobs, where innovative thinking is not the top priority.

A college degree is thus a token of proof—something that suggests you’re likely to fit a certain profile. It may not be exact, but it at least helps narrow down the candidate pool.

If you ask me to think from the perspective of an employer, I’d say it depends very much on the type of business. A bike shop and a law firm are completely different animals, so it’s best not to overgeneralize. If you’re a student, make the most of the experience, and choose a path where education still holds the greatest value.

The economy isn't what it used to be, relying on salary is only going to get you stuck, there are people that end up being in debt even as salary earners and when they get paid they end up using half of what they earn to pay back debts. Having skills is what can help you get financially stable, but don't go for a regular skill, a high paying skill is what is capable of making anyone financially independent.

Both education and skills matter but what really decides how far you go depends on how you use them if your goal is just to survive then skills alone can keep you afloat you can learn them through experience and repetition but the truth is not all skills are in demand some may only get you by without really changing your life. To actually succeed you need a mix of both education and skill education gives you structure and direction it helps you learn faster and avoid mistakes that others already made while skill gives you the practical side that turns theory into results when you read and study how people developed their skills you save time and create a better version of what they did that balance between knowing and doing is what makes progress easier.

These days it’s almost impossible to live comfortably on one salary no matter how good the job is a degree and a 9 to 5 aren’t enough to handle expenses for most people so the natural move is to build extra income sources and that’s where skills come in. The economy has changed it’s no longer about just having a stable job it’s about adaptability salary alone can trap you in a cycle of debt and stress but a strong high paying skill gives you flexibility and options it can open doors for freelancing side businesses or even full independence.

Choosing between school and skills depends on your goals. School offers structured learning and credentials, while skills provide practical, hands-on experience. Ideally, combine both: use school to build foundational knowledge and skills to apply what you’ve learned. In today’s world, adaptability and continuous learning matter more than ever.

Both are two important journey which are required for building credibility and accessibility to the current economic situations, a neglect to any is a direct step to failure which know one prays for. All successful entrepreneur are filled with both qualities, enabling them face the situational changes experienced in our day to day activities and never forget to apply them where necessary,  the economic systems experienced now are much different from the past once because of its diversifying nature and calls for swift responds to changes which such knowledge can only be provided by an equipped person on both.

Personal life style (as per daily expenses and future goals) is also a serious matter that is a major influence on getting more money and then location and other factors. I know a neighbor who earns less than another neighbor yet living a better lifestyle than the other. As for basic schooling I believe is an easy way about basic education (the ability to read and understand books, self education).
But then whether an extravagant lifestyle or not, a healthy balance between schooling and skills is good personally and societally

before I will give my opinion or suggestion first I will have to consider the economy situation of the country and the people that is surviving the most, here in my country I noticed that those that acquired a nice skill are the ones that is enjoying irrespective of the economy situation of the country. But this is not just anyhow skill but those skills that workers keep looking for them more often for example building of houses, and interior decoration and many more. majority of this people that is into these engineering field are just ordinary degree holders (O'level) so the only thing I know it's important is knowing how to read and write as this is the key to unlock whatever thing we wish to unlock.
