I still have not seen a way to geographically distribute copies without adding a lot of risk. I have moved and I don't know anyone I could trust. I would need to hire a vault, in a bank with a decent reputation, or a decent storage company or something, other than that I don't see a way to do it. I could check every X months that the disk is still there. Sometimes I consider if strong encryption in cloud storage hidden somewhere between a bunch of files is safer and more handy thand depending on some physical spot.

I don't understand, reading your post, what's your approach to effectively storing the backups though. Without giving away much information about your secops, can you elaborate on your approach? I can assume from the whole thread, that you must have some encrypted, digital backups. Don't you? If so, don't you distribute the backups geographically?

Again, I know this subject is delicate, meaning that you may not reveal enough info. So, don't misunderstand my questions please.

The most robust Bitcoin Core-based wallet setup I've seen so far is the one implemented by Yeti script, which offers customizable security levels depending on your needs. Notably, its Level 2 and Level 3 configurations offer extremely high security potentially eliminating most of your concerns. For example, Level 3 setup brings to bear 3-of-7 multisig arrangement with internet-isolated private keys derived from hdseed.

Setting up multisig wallet using Bitcoin Core is quite rare and technically complex. Yeti's approach is powerful but not for everyone. Thus, it is better for you to read by yourself all specs and requirement and estimate your power to use it.

Here are some useful links to help you evaluate whether this setup is right for you:

2) instructions for creating and recovering a mulitsignature address.
