Even if something can be considered "expensive" they can still be easily replaced with something that is of same value. I've always, at least afaik, used the words "money I CAN lose" since I 100% always assume that whatever money that I put into gambling, said money is immediately gone from actually being mine and is already spent. The number one thing you said op is that until now there are probably still many gamblers who have that level of feelings when they play gambling. Of course at the beginning they won't feel that their loss is big but in the end when they notice that it is big then they feel things that they didn't expect.

The thought of using big money after winning with a small amount they use is why a lot has gone astray from how small they usually stake, this pattern of gambling is like infection because sometimes when someone who uses a huge amount in gambling and maybe they won a big money on that week, so after telling the next gambler who doesn't stake big, they would be influenced by that amount and after then you will see that they will drop the $10 they normally use to gamble with to $100 or more forgetting that if they can gamble 20 times and win just one the loss will be 19 times multiply by the $100 that's a lot of money, so if people will stick to a small amount regardless of how it feels to win a large money they could manage their gambling very well.
